ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Type 1 Diabetes isn't supposed to happen much after age 15. After age 30, it's considered rare - or nonexistent. That's just not true. This article shows that the incidence of Type 1 diabetes is just as common as ages 16-30 and almost as common as 0-15.
care.diabetesjournals.org/cont...
Type 1 diabetes is usually more severe, more rapid in onset, and requires stronger treatment, more meds. In fact, Type 2 diabetes is often called "non insulin-dependent". That, too, is not true; Type 2 diabetics often end up needing insulin.Join the PrevMed Community: mailchi.mp/1224fb9e00e7/prevm...

ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.
At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine or in person if you're in the Lexington, KY area. We find a lot of undiagnosed Pre-Diabetes or Insulin Resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like Pre-Diabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

I recently developed T1D at 69 years old. It's a long story, but after 5 months of doctor visits for extreme digestive symptoms, I diagnosed myself as T1D. I based my diagnosis on more than 20 lbs unwanted weight loss, my own home OGTT, and my own insulin tests at a local lab. My own web searching had revealed the Kraft curves and several pubmed studies that discussed cases just like mine. I went back to my doctors with my strong suspicion of T1D, and they did some testing, but after finding A1C under 6, and fasting glucose of 100, they all said I was way off track on the T1D. In total, 5 MD's, including two endocrinologists, rejected the possibility of T1D. Both endocrinologists said insulin was not important for diagnosing diabetes. I finally got a diagnosis from a functional med doctor, and now am on insulin, and have improved remarkable, although six months of wrong treatments, particularly PPI's, took a toll. Thank you for this great video.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with T1D at age 80. She had been on medication for her heart for many years. One day the production of this specific medication was discontinued and she received a different one which, according to her, was what caused the T1D. I'm finding this hard to believe but would like to find out if this could be possible. Any thoughts anyone?

John: The medication she took was for a long-standing heart condition, not for T1 and I don't remember the names.

Very interesting article. I just found out I am insulin resistant at age 61.My Hemoglobin A1C was 6.0.I never had a problem before and I lived on sugar diet most of my life. I quit sugar and now I am insulin resistant. Go figure. The good news however, is by changing my diet, I dropped my Cholesterol Serum from 238 to 147 and LDL cholesteral, direct from 181 to 65 and have lost 10 pounds so far by eating a plant starch diet. I also stopped taking k27 as I felt it interfered with wound healing and was getting bleeding gums. (I had ITP, when young so it may play into it somehow, also platelets were going down slightly)

I think it is like what you said in the video. A insulin pump. He said cost 10k. Without it, he will have much harder time to cope with the class.

Ok. Yes. Insulin pump. And these pumps are obviously driven by CGM (continuous glucose monitoring).
