Why Ayodhya? When the talks of establishing the grand Ram Mandir started making the rounds, one common question was thrown in the air, Why does it have to be in Ayodhya? And somehow amidst all the debates that were going around to answer this question, the real answer was clear all along-because Ayodhya was destined to be known as Ram Janmabhoomi!
Known as the ‘city made by Gods’, Ayodhya has a rich history that goes way back before the period of Ramayan, but the reason it is considered as one of the 7 important holy abodes of the Hindus is its identity as the ‘city of Lord Ram’. But sadly, a dangerous curse left this auspicious city in ruins for thousands of years. The evil attacks from powers like the Mughal empire tore down the tapestry of the divine city. And it was left barren with little hopes of returning to its past glory.
But today, as Ram Lalla is returning to his Ayodhya with the holy Ram Mandir, the city is flourishing with progress and happiness once again. And as we all wait eagerly for the pran-pratishtha on 22nd January 2024, let’s take a look back at the history of Ayodhya and some of the lesser known stories that were left untold over the period of time.
