On the topic of undercarriage rust, after a big snow and all the road salt, when the roads are clear again and when we get a warm day above freezing, I break out a garden hose and a whirligig lawn sprinkler. I move it to about 6 places under the vehicle and let it run about 15 minutes at each spot. My car is a 2003 and shows almost no rust anywhere.

I have run AMSOIL in my cars for years. Had a 2003 Sable with the DOHC and had about 100,000 on it and went through divorce. The last thing I thought of was changing my oil. Heard a little noise so checked the oil level, then realized none on dipstick. Oil pan held about 5 qts and added 4 quarts to top it off. When I got home changed oil. Realized that I went about 1 year and 35,000 miles since last change. Sold the car when it had 235,000 no issues. Not to say it would not have happened with other oil, probably real lucky.

I think you’ll be pleased with the test results on Amsoil. Only one of my oil customers has had a test failure. That was 6500 miles. It is because he rarely gets his truck fully warmed up on a drive. 1/2 mile to donut shop, 2 miles to post office. TBN failure. IMHO 3 points to look at. TBN under 7 = fail. Not in viscosity grade (heat) =fail. Silicon content -your air filter not doing its job. I look at metal content too as an indicator of engine problems and oil filter problems.

For a 230,000 plus mile Lincoln, this car is in beautiful condition. Panthers are some of the best cars ford built. I can remember working on vehicles with 30,000 miles at the dealerships I worked at and they would be hammered and abused. I remember when Ford started using 5w-20 oil and people were going way past the recommended OCI’s and their cars were coming in all low on oil and the oil that was left in there was like roofing tar. That’s why I tell everyone, I don’t buy they extended oil drain intervals unless you really do constant highway driving and do tons of miles a month. Otherwise, use a high quality oil designated for your car or truck and change it religiously. You just can’t go wrong with this advice. I’ve actually had some customers come back and thank me because they listened to me, they started changing engine oil between 3 to 4 thousand miles and their vehicles stopped burning oil or slowed down so much that it was between full and add on the sticks. Didn’t have to add any during changes.

I've been using Fumoto drain valves on my fire trucks for years. On heavy trucks you have up to 10 gallons of oil behind the drain plug and the plugs are BIG, so a huge gush of oil comes at you when you pull it. With the drain valve it's much more controllable.

Seems like most comparison tests I've seen show the Amsoil and the Pennzoil products as being #1 & #2. I've been using the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 in my Challenger SRT 392 and like it a lot. Amsoil is one of the few oils that meets Dodge's specs for the 392ci/6.4L HEMI engine. Surprisingly, Mobil 1 doesn't recommend any of their oils for use in that engine ... nor the 6.1L or 6.2L Hellcat engines.

Thinking of the top mount bypass in the motorcraft, I look at a bunch of engine teardown videos and wondered how metal ended up thru-out the engine. I was wondering if when a bearing comes apart and metal chunks get sucked into the oil system. If the filter finally plugs up and the bottom bypass opens - if that is how the metal chunks end up in the rockers, cam, and all the rod bearings. top mount bypass might mitigate that? thanks man for another great video!

I put Detroit axle brake rotors on my Ford five hundred and Trq drilled and slotted on the rear (they look identical to the Detroits) the rear ones were out of stock from Detroit axle at the time and the front ones were out of stock at 1a auto. Put brembo non asbestos organic ceramic brake pads on it. They were dusty at first and I noticed a significant fuel economy difference. I got 33mpg last trip out of town I took. I'd imagine the new slide pins and bushings helped with that. Stops so much better it's unreal

@@sjfk1306 Alright guy. The car had bad caliper slide pins and bushings causing the caliper to move around in ways it shouldn't. Causing the brakes to not always release and drag causing low fuel economy. I should update my profile name.

@@sjfk1306 well, factory rotors are $125 a pop in my area. I could get the drilled and slotted rotors for $99 a axle. Since that car likes to warp rotors like warped records why put something expensive on it? Plus it's a typical rusty crusty northwestern car that's gonna be lucky to not rot in half in 5 years it's already got no rockers panels on it anymore, lol. I just want to get some more time out of it cheaply then when it's so rusty it won't pass inspection anymore junk it

@@sjfk1306 Sure it's a boring car. Back in it's day 0-60 was 7.3 seconds. I don't consider that horrible for a boat. It's got a dumb CVT chain drive in it and it free wheels down hills so I have to ride the breaks to not go 15+ mph past the speed limit down hills. I also put heavy stuff in the trunk. A while back I put a 4T65E transmission in the trunk and hauled it back to the junk yard. The car didn't care. Lmao. People at the junk yard thought I was absolutely insane but it's what I had and it did the job I was surprised the transmission fit in the trunk and it was still sitting level. Cheap Chinese rotors have came a long way. Are they an upgrade no but the car stops a lot better. Idk if it's the brembo brake pads or calipers that move correctly and brake pads that arnt glazed to glass.

@@sjfk1306 @FordBossMe also has drilled and slotted brake rotors on his Lincoln town car. Detroit axle. He's not a kid far from it (he's still a lot older than me I'd imagine) We both have high milage older vehicles and we want them to look good, serve their purpose reliably and affordably. The last thing a mechanic wants at the end of the day is to have to do a lot of work to their car to get home. If he has issues with his rotors he'll tell us about it. If I have issues with mine I'll put OEM rotors back on it.
@corvairGuy1754

@@sjfk1306 I'm aware of that. The car was in a very sudden flash flood which did not help it's situation what so ever. We couldn't get the water out of the unibody. Not much water made it in the interior and we got that out. I'd have coated the undercarriage with bar and chain oil fluid film mixture. But I can't get that in the unibody like would be possible on a body on frame car I have stopped the rust from getting worse by using a rust converter and repainting it. It's been fine for a while now and hasn't gotten any worse. Also places like new York the amount of salt they use on the roads absolutely eats cars regardless of how well it's taken care of. I'm no longer living in the rust belt thank goodness but I do see some of those cars occasionally and my car isn't even. That bad. The body is rusty but everything under it is fine. I guess I exaggerated a bit interns of how rusted it is it looks pretty bad under the plastic rocker covers but the frame rails looks perfect I guess the body will rot off the frame before the frame goes. Car runs and drives absolutely flawless and I maintain it well body is crusty. Mechanically perfect

We have those style of drain valves on our heavy equipment, front end loaders and such. You are right, it's a bit slower, but SO much more cleaner. And no fumbling with a drain plug, only to drop it in 26 quarts (or more) of diesel oil. Sticking with the OEM or the higher grade filters is the way to go, safe bet on quality. It's a lot easier to pay for multiple $50 oil changes over the long term, rather than a $5000 repair at one time. I like shaking bottles, makes me happy! 😁 I do that whether it's engine oil, transmission fluid, or additives. You just don't know how long some of this stuff is stored before you purchase it. Love the videos 🤙 question I have a 2007 c6 z06 I picked it up last year with 1700 miles on it it has 6000 on it now, The guy that had it before Took immaculate care ran nothing but mobile 1 and changed it every six months , the oil pressure at idle when warmed up was 50 Psi with mobile 1 I switch to Pennzoil ultra platinum same weight and now it’s at 35 psi at idle , also I noticed when I check oil the Pennzoil just flys off the dip stick lol .. is this just because the oil has a better viscosity or something when it is warm? A LS7 has to be warm to check the oil because of the dry sump I have to wait like 8 minutes after killing the car to check it
@FordBossMe
@FordBossMe Жыл бұрын
The Pennzoil Ultra does have better flow characteristics and I wouldn't think that it would be that different when it comes to oil pressure so you're going to have to make that call and maybe go back to mobile or another oil change and see if it goes back up you also have to remember that Pennzoil has a higher additive package than mobile
@derekperkins4141
@derekperkins4141 Жыл бұрын
@@FordBossMe sounds good I’m going to go back to Mobile 1 and see if it jumps back up , Normal range for a LS7 is 20 psi to 80 which is wild but you can have 1 car in the 20’s and another in the 80s any GM says this is normal.. I want to see if it goes up but I’m going to probably stick with the Pennzoil because I know it’s a better oil.. I’ll get back to you on my next oil change to let you know the results … thank you 🤙

What do you think about the Wix 57151/Napa 7151 for a 2022 F250 6.7? It is a 5 micron filter where other filters I’ve checked are 35 micron. The space between the rings and cylinder walls is 5 to 10 micron. So the 5 micron should catch pretty much anything preventing any crud from getting to the cylinder walls?

M1 extended performance in my 04 civic at 5k miles and blackstone labs said the oil was fine and the engine wear metals were lower then average. This is an engine with 150k miles original. I am a strong beleiver in exactly what M1 says, that you shouldn't extend service intervals unless the service manual permits longer service intervals, that oil type doesn't matter because some engines are inherently dirty and run oil hotter.

At 270,000 miles the engine is starting to give up. No matter what people say a gasoline engine is designed to last so long. Drive hard, maybe 100,000 miles, take care of it 250,000 miles maybe. Anything over is a cherry on top. I know there are exceptions to the rule and engines make it to 500,000 to a 1,000,000 miles but they will not last forever. Nothing man made does. I will agree, this vehicle is immaculate condition and owner did a wonderful job on maintenance. The engine is certainly clean for that amount of mileage but in my opinion the engine is just tired. I would still take care of it before it has a major malfunction. Thank you for going over the oil filter, I learned a lot. I use Motor-craft filter and never go over 5,000 miles on oil. Peace peace

All my vehicles have the 7.3 powerstroke diesels with oil filters that hold 2 quarts of oil. Hot, heavy and slippery equals a hot splash of oil all over me when it falls into the drain pan. So I poke a hole in it and let it drain while my Fumoto drain valve drains the other 12-2/3 quarts.

Idk why or how but the stuff seems to hold up in the extreme temp ranges we put our vehicles through. Good evening, if you dont mind me asking i was wondering why you prefer the Purolator boss oil filter rather then the fram ultra for your personal vehicle. I've been doing some heavy research and if I'm not mistaken the fram ultra ties with amsoil with 99% at 20 microns, the Mobil 1 is 99% at 30 microns and the Purolator is 99% at 25 microns and think the motorcraft is 80% at 20 microns. I've been really looking hard into this lol, forgive me if I'm wrong but think these are all correct!! Thanks you!!

You got to catch up to all of my oil videos I dont expect you to do that I just like the purolatorboss the Fram Ultra is better if you start watching more of my videos you can see I actually push the Fram Ultra because it's a better filter I don't understand where the disconnect is here I think people just see one video or two videos and they think they got the channel figured out but yet they don't want to do any more homework before they start projecting
