He sped around the restaurant to get behind that guy with the expectation that the car that was behind him would pay it forward to the next guy rather than just accept the free meal. Thus, causing that guy to get charged for his outrageous bill and he gets to eat frozen burgers, tots, and pancakes all summer long.

Those same people, though are often not tippers. We can get tips where I work and people who pay it forward do not pay it forward to the people literally preparing their food while getting underpaid. You can pay an extra 20 bucks for some strangers food who was already willing to pay for their own order, but you can't put a dollar in the tips to help the workers who most likely can barely afford to eat at their own place of work

Maybe their employer should be paying them more instead of hopeing for total strangers to tip them.
