I've had this for about 10 years, time to do a review about the Lee 4 Hole Classic Cast Turret Press. Lots to like, but some things let it down, as I explain in this video.

No complaints here. 1) Deprime/Resize 2) Powder charge 3) bullet seat 4) factory crimp. If I'm doing more precise loads for a hunting rifle, I use the press as a single-stage. I love the versatility! Thanks for your long-term report. I've had mine for about 10 years, and had no problems. Incidentally, I also bought the same spares as you and have NEVER needed them. Always have the ram in an up-stroke so to disengage the plastic index when changing turrets, and you are saving that plastic part! Cheers, and nice review.

For rifle loads: The fourth hole is necessary for the factory crimp die. Nowadays I use it for all hunting grade cartridges. Any practice or precision ammo without crimp three stations is sufficient. Not to be affected by the number of stations one would need to consider running the Lee manually or an any manually indexed turret press or a Dillon550BL instead. Unfortunately the 550BL is not offered where I live in Europe. I use a 550C manually indexed 4 station progressive. A Lee Classic turret and a Loadmaster. All have their peculiarities and some limitations. I’ll never part with the turret due to the versatility and fast caliber changes.

The reason for the 4th hole is for Lee’s 4 die setup. Depriving/resizing,then powder drop/case mouth expansion, bullet seating then the factory crimp die which is probably the best crimp die out there.

Have a older 4 hole going on 13 year's now. 80k+ rounds through it. Only had to replace 1 index rod & 3 of the square things. Got rid of the Lee powder thrower And went to a Hornaday. Thinking about going with a newer Lee press. The shorter index rods are kinda hard to find.

The 4th hole is nice for the factory crimp dies on pistol rounds. I have a pro 1000 that when ive got it running right, will crank out rounds, that said, i always ended up putting a factory crimp die on my single stage just for that. A 4th hole on the turret press negates that need

So, its intrinsic to the design, how on earth can a personal intended use be the fault of a device? Good video of descriptional function, just a good humorous take on why it fails optimized intended use.

not wrong but i'd take it over a single stage any day of the week. i've been running a older turret press without all the gizmo for awhile now. that's a bad way to load talking about time wasting. you do everything in batches. so you handle the brass more so much it's crazy. i bought this press 2nd hand for cheap. it's wore out at this point but the thread on the pin became an issue. started backing out and finally the threads stripped out. couldn't identify the the threads so i took it to a machinist at work with some formal training. stumped him even with his thread gauges. i got it repaired using npt taps, a brass coupler and force it in cutting threads as it went. having that much issue for a minor repair tells me a lot. having said that, i did get a new press and look forward to wasting my time on that 4th hole. i absolutely hate reading like i was. this will be so much better though it could be even more efficient.

Thanks for the review, it was both very interesting & opportune. Although I’ve got several nice single stage presses I’m considering buying this press to perform sequential case-prep for 7x57 & 8x57 cases - the first step of which would involve a minimal body resize (using a body die). I wouldn’t be expecting the Lee press to do radical case reforming (I have a large press for that) but from your experience is the press realistically capable of rifle cartridge resizing? I’m thinking in terms of sufficient mechanical advantage to do it comfortably & also the ability to consistently bump a shoulder back the same couple of thou’ (i.e. not too much inconsistent spring in the press)?

Hi webley I made a quick short to answer some of you questions: kzfaq.infojNyTRiviqfo?feature=share In the video I measured the play between the tool head and the press but please be aware that that play is irrelevant as the tool head will always be in upward compression when sizing, expanding, seating or crimping. When in operation then, that play will be constant and therefore I have not had any 'spring in the press'.

Howdy, I thought a factory crimp die was a good sta. 4 use. Is it unnecessary? Pls advise. Thanks Mark R

Lee still sells the 3 hole turret, not sure if the operating rod would work

My grommet last 1500 rounds at best! Now I just rotate the turret by hand. This thing is junk really. I regret buying it.
