Just returned from a camping trip with my 550. All of the climate control aspects of this camper work great! During the day I kept the windows cracked and the Max Fan running so it never got too hot inside, but on the last day it got so hot outside that I had to turn on the air conditioning and it performed perfectly. I have also used the furnace on a colder trip, and was also very happy with the comfort level.

Camp Inn came up with some very cool, creative engineering ideas. The galley changes are interesting. I can see where my kitchen gear would store. Cabin has great storage. This would be a great size for me and my large dog. I like the add on tents that the owner put on to extend living space.

You can tell these folks have been building trailers for a while. I really liked how Jerry went outside the box and used items like his tent that aren't so common in this community. And like I mentioned in the videos. His tent withstood the storm, my canopy topped down. And I was only a handful of campsites away from his.

We’ve always been blessed to have that kind of nice full day long drizzly Alaskan rain. That’s pretty easy to deal with. But I’m finding this lower 48 Midwest to Mountain West storm rain that’s a bit different. We primarily sleep at elevation in areas that aren’t very susceptible to wind, but we’ve done a few windy sites now out in the open and I completely understand why people use those protective covers around their galley now. For years, I never even thought about using one.

Great feedback from former bigger rig user here. I yearn for a teardrop option as less is definitely MORE! Thankfully we spend 90% of our time outdoors with our bigger rig but with 4 dogs, the teardrop ( I’m a Bean 2.0 fan) is daunting. There is another tow vehicle in town ( I have the Hyundai Santa Cruz, and we have a F150) and bikes, solo canoe & kayak need to come along. I will continue to work the issues and these videos are a huge help to figure it all out. One thing, no mention of toilet etc..Thanks for the work in sharing all this! 💜 P.S. We live in New England so gnarly weather is another factor 😉

I love knowing a video is specifically speaking to one person. This is so cool to hear. I just heard today that I got bumped. I was hoping to get the second bean stock in production. I think I’m now somewhere between six and eight. How dare they! 😂 i’ll be utilizing it hard this summer as it’s my own personal trailer so you’ll definitely get to see my true thoughts on it and what components I add or subtract from it after using it.

What’s funny is we get a number of comments each year about being considerate of folks over 65. They say they don’t want the teardrop life. I laugh and just respond, maybe you should go to a teardrop rally. I would say 5-10% of those in attendance at a teardrop rally are under the age of 60.

This is a beautiful, well thought out camper. I appreciate the discussion about the large “Elkheart made” travel trailers, and how they entice people to just stay inside. That’s why we sold out Keystone 23rb, and bought a Casita 17’. When we go camping in the Casita, I spend most of my time outside the trailer. I’ve got to get one of those Coleman event space canopies. Happy Camping!

Now I’m looking for a similar trailer, but one that overcomes all the shortcomings of my first trailer. Which won’t be hard beings that trailer was as basic as you can get for a 4 x 8 teardrop.

This is probably one of the few commercial teardrops that comfortably sleeps two adults and two kids. I wish they had a more bare bones version to make it significantly more affordable. The only major criticism I would have with this design is I think the rear hatch should go all the way down to the bottom so that it is more of a shelter when open. Then you also don’t end up leaning against the dirty back of the trailer, and they could use drawers and cupboards at the back instead of those wells.

@@twloughlin from a price point the Road Toad is great, but unfortunately they’re just too tiny for a family of 4 (plus dog). Having everyone sleeping inside with separate bunks for the kids is a must (one kid moves around a lot and wakes the other up otherwise 😅)

We are on our second Camp Inn. We had a 2010 550 Model and recently upgraded to the slightly larger 560 Model. Quality product from a quality manufacturer.

We call that in this community 2 foot -itis. Haha. We’ve done the same thing and even went backwards 2 feet. Our next trailer that will be picking up next month is definitely going backwards for us, but I think our family needs that. For some seasons of life, less is more. And then watch me two years from now I’ll say this season of life more is more 😂

What a great video and how awesome is Jerry at explaining things? He summed up my thoughts exactly; we go outdoors to BE outdoors. To experience nature. Living in a huge RV with all the creature comforts is *not* why we do this (and yet, laziness is a lure by itself). My husband and I have tent camped (much of it dry camping) for most of our lives, but crawling up off the floor of a tent when you are in your 60s gets old fast. The teardrops have pretty much all of the luxury that *we* need... (a comfortable bed, the option to have heating/cooling, a kitchen). We have been thinking about an RV/van/trailer for about 6 years and have been doing serious research for the past 4 years. The RVs seem too much like a house (with all the lures of lazy home living) and are exorbitantly priced. The vans were small enough and certainly had comfort factors, but you are always attached to your drivetrain, which ultimately will wear out. Plus, if we want to bring our kids or grandkids, there are few options for safe traveling with seatbelts. So that led us to really begin to focus on trailers. We went to RV shows. Visited Elkhart. So many trailers were flimsy to the point of seemingly being made out of cardboard. We looked and looked, debated, listened, read up, talked to owners of all options, etc. Ultimately, we went with the Escapod which we will be picking up this summer, but I'm sure the Camp-Inn (and some others) would work as well. We chose the Escapod because our trailer will live outside and I'm worried about water issues if it's outdoors 24/7. Thank you for sharing your insights, encouraging exploration and time spent outdoors. I find your KZfaq videos to be fantastic and I rely on your insights. Thank you!

Jerry is absolutely correct. I went from small to big and inside two years realized the mistake. The big stuff, aside from maybe Airstream or Lance, and a couple others, are just junk. MPG with a capable vehicle is horrible. It doesn’t make sense. We camp to be outside. My teardrop is a bed and a kitchen I can park anywhere. Perfect. Really good testimonial. Thank you.

Thanks Brad! I appreciate this so much. I also find I miss the setup. I was working so hard to make everything easy, that I forgot that sometimes the work is my favorite part. This is one of the main reasons I gravitated towards Stock 2.0. Most the work is done for you, but there is still enough left to feel like you are camping. That is how I see the Camp-Inn as well. It still requires a side entry tent and maybe even a galley tent due to that 3/4 hatch. While a pain on quick stops. I think this sort of setup works well for me on longer stays.

@@PlayingwithSticks I would love for there to be an option on the Camp Inn for a second folding table mounted lower on the trailer for the cooler for people that would want that. It is great to have a trailer that does the basics with minimal to no setup but has the option of quickly expanding on that to create a complete camping experiences for when the need arises or when you are out for multiple days and taking the time to setup a more robust camping experience makes more sense! Just curious how tall is Jerry’s Camp Inn? You mentioned one time that putting a Maxxair on the side of the trailer as an option and I had never thought of that before and intrigues me!

@jgrant4520 what’s a good question about the height. The interior of this there is a little over 3 1/2 feet. And from ground to ceiling I believe is only about 5 foot tall. With the sacrifice of a little ground ckearance and cabin height, you really get a nice low profile trailer. I can’t remember the ground clearance. I want to say it was like 12 to 13 inches at the axle, but more than enough for most peoples needs. I had seen a number of Australian models that have cabin filters and fans placed on the side or down low. I haven’t seen anybody do it with a fan as big as a maxxair fan…yet. Charles and I had purchased a fan probably about half the size of the max air fan for our side mount.

@jgrant4520 I just looked up the actual specs to make sure I wasn’t leading you in the wrong direction. The model in this video the 560 is 3 inches taller than the 550. So it’s actually 5‘4“ versus the 5 foot one inch of the 550 model. But still incredibly low profile.

Well done! Thank you, Drew. Thank you, Jerry. Ive found a system to keep warm that works for me if there is no elec available. It took a lot of years but it works for me. The flip if that is being cool enough. The new maxx fan is a great upgrade for comfort. I really like that coleman tent! I see other teardrops that have nice features but going to bed in that best 'fort' you can imagine is the best.

Oh. I was working on the thought that everyone does what works for them.! Since you asked...heh... I have a 12 yr old double Northface sleeping bag as my base. It's pretty thin but the nylon let's me roll over and wear full pj's, socks and an extra large mens light weight puffy jacket as needed. That keeps my shoulders and arms warm, and if I have to be up at night, I stay warm. Then I have a Kelty Biggie Bestie blanket as the next layer. And then an Omvmo down rectangle bag opened flat over everything . It's rated to 5 degrees. I've slept under this system in single digit temps and been fully warm. A Nalgene with hot water is great for the foot well. The Omvmo also has a hood that zippers on one side and it works over my head as a tent sort of system. As much as I like a good wool blanket and flannels I found that the nylon bags hold in the heat. I can layer them off and on as needed.

Loved the video Drew! We’ve been lucky that we have avoided sideways rain to date but we have a Hasika just in case. We are hoping it meets our needs. We also have a Gazelle G5 gazebo and love it. We had a Class C RV in Alaska and our Mean Bean is such much better.

We said a similar thing in a comment today. We have went for years, never experiencing sideways rain. A big part of that is living in Alaska, but even down here in the lower 48 we tend to camp in mountainous areas, and the valleys seem to protect us from that. But we have experienced a couple windy days in the open plains and can imagine how tough it can get. I didn’t realize you lived in Alaska, what part? You probably told me this and I already forgot.

We lived in Eagle River for almost 5 years. Once I retired from the Air Force in Aug 2022, we decided to move down to Utah in 2033 to be closer to family and friends. It’s been a good move for us but we do miss things about Alaska.

Good video as always. It's a pretty street rig. And the front covers are a must! Wish something could help those poor wheel fenders. Ha! Not sure I'd like carrying my full fridge out and set it on a table. To many critters outside to leave it. It has beautiful interior though. The kids bed could be used for a lot of storage. And I did see where the tire is being kept in your under the rig shot. It looks like it's probably a torsion axle which is always okay. Can't believe how light it is. I like all the wood colors. I don't think I would like to have my hatch held up with a stick though. I am wondering about price, I will have to go to the website just to take a peek. Much love to the family and yourself!

Great breakdown as usual. Overtime I have come to appreciate the stick. Haha. Charles who was building our trailer was very anti-gas spring as well. But, I also don't think he would have appreciated the stick. He had other alternatives that he thought would be better for our build. I'm with you on those fenders. I always wanted more of a traditional fender. Even with fiberglass and paint, they end up being a hot mess. I'm with you on the fridge. That is my biggest concern with Stock 2.0. How will I like that tongue mounted fridge after a year of use? The price is a bit on the high side, but for what you get and how long these guys have been in the game I would have expected much higher. Thanks for the love, same to you my friend!

I'm not seeing this trailers as I used to any longer. Jerry, my compliments! you're just as picky as I am by thinking always on the 3rd law of Newton and that takes me to CampInn to take the challenge and bring a solution in order to be simple and reduce the cost of maintenance. I've been finding myself constantly lookinf for "rudimentary" instead of automation because it's easier to maintain and solve it. So I really love the way they do it. Great, great video mi amigo! I really enjoyed it and kept me quite attentive although I wasn't expecting much because I'm not a big fan of retro style, but that doesn't mean I admire the work here. Probably you don't see me commenting very much lately cause I've been through many things during the last 6 months, but I never miss your content Drew - I just get delayed sometimes but always around stalking your channel as usual :) I bet you felt like findin a treasure with Jerry by realizing how they've managed to flow and enjoy so passionate their camping escapes while solving many of the most common aspects related to teardrops - I know this because I watch your videos (cause I have none experience YET). Sending a big hug to the family and I'm still waiting for the time you bring them south Baja to Baja Serena Campsite to finally get to meet you and hang out in the area.

These is beautiful and so well thought out. It is kind of giving me envy. That shelter! I have been searching for something like that and the one that's not quiet right got tons of bird presents left on it this past weekend so I will make it work. In the back it looked like it had material sides that were rolled up at the kitchen coming off the side roof . One thing I found trying to sit upright in "couch mode" in my square-drop I had was that with my feet at the same level as my buttocks it wasn't comfortable for me...at all. maybe just me but I couldn't sit long that way. I solved the problem with little round meditation cushions about 6" thick... not so tall my head would hit the ceiling but tall enough to allow my legs to cross and sit somewhat normal. Of course having the Kimbo now those issues are history lol....but I still have those little cushions....for meditating.

I’m with you there. Even with the new bean, I’m ordering I have been doing a lot of searching online to find seating options. I want to be able to pull my mattress back and have some way to sit and do work from within the trailer. I’ve been currently looking at portable workstations. Most of them are like Kickstarter campaigns and they’re ridiculously expensive. But I am finding some that they used during Covid for classrooms. But like you, I find living life in a teardrop, a little more difficult than I thought it would be. Life on your butt that is. But I’m gonna do everything I can in terms of research and energy to find a good solution for all of us. I could see how the Kimbo definitely alleviated those issues.

@@PlayingwithSticksJust use a couple of good quality pillows and put under your knees to solve that issue. I've been sleeping like that for years due to low back and hip issues.

Also, that foamy tour that we did on the channel that was actually built in partnership with camp-inn. The folks at camp and helped him with that CAD drawing and the CNC router. But like I mentioned to everybody in the video, you don’t need all that stuff to make a great foamy. Edit: sorry for the bad foamie spelling. It’s my voice dictation on my phone.

Quick question about propane heaters: what about those of us who camp at 10,000+ feet, and rarely below 8,000 feet. Do they still work?

I can't remember if it was Camp-Inn or another manufacturer that said this. But some manufacturers have done some workarounds for them to work at elevation. I'm glad you brought this up. I think this would be a great question to ask potential manufacturers. I had installed a Propex in the camper I was building with Charles. I was really hoping to use it at elevation. But, that's life. Probably no propane heaters in my near future. Back to hot nalgenes, wool and down blankets, and the electric blanket.

@@PlayingwithSticks Right now we have a couple EcoFlows, total of about 1,000WH, and a 100-watt space heater which gives us about give hours of heat. It's good down to about 20 degrees, but in April when I camped in 6-degree overnight temps and 60+ mph winds, it was a hair underpowered.

@@PlayingwithSticks it was in here and that's what made me think about it (the video mentions 6,000 feet, which about the elevation I live at.) The propane stoves tend to work at any elevation, but they seem way weaker above 9,500.

@DavidHancock have you done the electric blanket yet? We do that in below zero temps. I used to use propane heaters. But I realized the electric blanket with a really good wool blanket on top of your body to hold in that heat, Does a much better job. So much though that it actually gets too hot. I then use an electric heater or a propane heater just right before bed and right when I get up. And that’s really only for May so she continues to camp with me haha. I think there was a typo in your comment, how long are you getting those to run off of your power stations? I think folks would love to know.

Hi drew. Heat- again it depends on what you are using your camper for. An electric blanket/electric mattress warmer in many cases is more then enough. to keep you warm at night and have very low energy drains. issue comes up again, if you are dealing with extreme cold with the doors opening and closing a lot. you might want a good heater. 2000-3000 watt territory. side note - spam. sorry, i have a spam blocker.

Haha. Love the spam blocker. I find for our winter and shoulder season camping that 90% of it can be done with just a hot nalgene bottle, mummy bags, down blankets, my favorite wool blanket or an electric blanket. But, if I was do do cold weather camping consistantly I find I like blending these techniques with occasional heater use.

@@PlayingwithSticks replace spam with pemmican and jerky, then add in Sailor Boy Pilot Crackers :). yeah I t-shirt it till its about 40f, light jacket till 20f, and don't break out cold weather gear till 0F. BUT once we hit 0 i do take things like heat and such seriously, and by the time we are in dangerous temps -40f i take heat as a critical asset and survival requirement.

That really works! While visiting family in Idaho I tried one of your cold weather hacks. I put my heated throw on my chair and covered up with a down blanket and a wool blanket over the top of the down. I was outside like that for hours watching our 5 mo old Shepard puppy go nuts playing outside. Our older dog was content curl up on her bed with her favorite blanket over the top of her. It was so amazingly beautiful but the wind was biting cold. Thanks oh so much Drew for your tips, tricks and hacks! I have fun tryin’em out! The

I miss my pilot bread! And yes, the use of the word pilot bread was no accident. It’ll always be pilot bread and snow machines for me. Pilot bread was a staple for us out in the bush.

When you first see this trailer, you don’t think it’s off-road. It’s just so beautiful. Check out our other video where we do the factory tour of camp-inn. They make a comment about its off-road ability. These guys actually claim to be one of the first off-road trailers. The way they designed the frame, the suspension or lack of suspension, and the components they use are all designed for off-road use. It’s still hard to see this as an off-road trailer, but these guys don’t blow smoke so I trust that this is definitely capable of occasional off-road. As for dedicated off-road, there is definitely other trailers out there that I would put over this.

@@PlayingwithSticks..It not being a dedicated off road trailer and it being so shiny and perfect was what kept me from looking at the Camp Inn. Same with the Vestibule. No way are those tires and wheels and meant for off road and l don’t recall being impressed with the axle either.

Yes, it doesn’t look like it, but it was built for it. Check out our factory tour where they discuss this. Would there be better trailers more suited for off-road use, absolutely. But they built it with it in mind.
