in this video i demonstrated how to Connect Power Supplies in Series to Get More Voltage / two or More Power Supplies in Series. i shared the series connection circuit diagram with practical demonstration. in this process we connect power supplies in series (head to tail rule) -ve of first power supply will taken as common (return line) and +ve of first power supply will taken as a +ve output voltage,
the same positive output is connected to the -ve of the second power supply -ve terminal. and the positive of send power supply will taken out as second +ve output section. and the same +ve will connected to the -ve terminal of the third power supply and +ve of the third power supply will taken as +ve output. thus all power supplies will come in series
so in series connection the voltage will added and the current will considered equivalent to the minimum current capability in series

on some of that type of power supply the output -ve is connected to the earth/chassic so that set-up wont work. I can do what you did on the psu that uses the 2 pin figure of eight power cable since thats just double insulated and not earth, so its worth checking if the -ve is connected to the earth cable, I know you have already done that else yous wouldnt have worked but this advice is more for the audiences

So i learned something today. Amps are limited by the weakest link. I am left with a question; what if your series connection started with the 6A power supply? By your wording, the effect should be the same. however a confirmation that its not 25A would be cool. and would that require wiring in parallel instead then?

If all the power supplies don't start up (or don't start at the same time), would the reverse polarity voltage potentially applied to the non-started -up power supply potentially cause the output capacitors to rev polarity and explode? Would it be good to put a diode across the output of each , rated for at least the total combined voltage and rated for the current of the highest current power supply?

...and in fault conditions such as short circuit across load which means the power supplies output will be connected in opposite polarity.I agree that it is a good solution with Schottky diode connected in reverse bias across output terminals of each power supply. This is for two power supplies. I haven't considered what would happen with three or more, but I think it would complicate things even more..best regards.

And if I understand correctly, the ground-leads of each case lead to the wall-plug, but out of all the ground-connections of all the boards to their respective cases, you have to leave just the last one untouched. All the other board-to-case earth-connections have to be capped...(???)
@GannDolph
@GannDolph 2 жыл бұрын
@@klausbrinck2137 Very good point . Most purpose built SMPS (eg MeanWell ) do not tie the Negative output to the mains protective earth, or to a metal chassis that itself is connected to protective earth. I don't recall ever seeing a manufacturer recommend this, nor do i recall reading them advising against it either.. In units where you see this negative DC to protective earth bonding inplemented, (such as in surplus HP proliant server power supplies ) , this connection is most typically removed. There are blog posts and videos on you tube detailing this. now ,.. you could choose to leave the earth connected on the first (lowest potential) power supply , within a series string. I can see potential benefits - as well as potential downsides - to doing this, but in general for battery and solar type applications I believe the choice is most typically in favor of full isolation . (Whereas in the computer world I think it may be customary for the chassis to be tied to DC negative / i.e. zero DC volts.) You should decide what you want and configure accordingly.

Yes very good. But doesn't putting switchmode power supplies in series to add voltage have some weird affect on the regulation? In other words it sort of works, but the regulation can also get weird. Ever hear of that? Linear supplies might work better for series connections between supplies. What do you think of that?
@HaseebElectronics

thanks a lot it doesn't effect on regulation. as the feedback regulation circuit have to sense the potential at its output terminals. it have to produce output if it is grounded properly, then it is safe and works perfectly on load sharing

NOOO, the load will no be evenly distributed this way. To do this right, you need a PSU with a REMOTE SENSING function, which will balance the voltages between the devices. Mean Well SE-450 series for example have this function. It can be compared to using capacitors as a voltage divider. that won't work. Caps need resistors to keep the voltages balanced.

No. when we connected 2 sources in series, it works normal. it is as per my experience, if we are using 2 power supplies, let's say 12V 10A, total voltage will 24V and current will 10A if we use different current rating (12V 10A, and second is 12V 6A) total series voltage will 24 volt but the maximum current will 6 ampere. above 6 ampere it turns off)

But the Powersupplys has 100Amp , that means i have than 4KW DC Power and i need ~ 5KW AC Power on one AC Fuse ! I need current limiting. My Idea ok either i limited each single power supply before series connection. Or I limit the series connection. Is there a current limiting circuit that works for so much power? 12V/100A or 56V/~100A current limiting circuit? i try to charge with 80-100 amps/56Volt on lifepo4 , You can then see me charging my battery in google earth, the red glowing house In Germany/Bavaria. most chargers use only 2 connections of 4. some iphone chargers use the other connections to make sure it is a genuine charger and cable..

either the green or white wire is connected to a resistor which is grounded, some phone chargers have both data d+ d- tied together

there are 2 types of charging cables 1. *USB Charging cable* (it have just 2 wire, normally red & black for +5 volt & common) 2. *USB cable* it is charging cable + usb communication cable (Red & black wires for charging purpose, while white and green wires are for data communication between the mobile and the hosting device) the fifth one there is also a shielding braid which is connected to both side connectors and ground wire. it provides signal shielding and protects the communication loss and protects from uter interruptions

@Dan Tronics you are right inside a branded charger, data wires are terminated to ground but in low quality chargers these are left open ended.
