There’s nothing wrong with being a boy band. I guess your thinking of 90s pop boy bands. The Beatles were called a boy band during their time. 5SOS has the same set up as them, and many other bands. So I’m conclusion, boyband shouldn’t be a negative term

@@bluvillage But they are not boyband. Boyband is a term usually used for male singing group where all the members just sing and do not write lyrics (most of the time) and own music. In most cases they have a big team of producers, song writers and have a backup band that plays instruments. This team does everything for them and they just do nothing but sing to the music someone produced instead of them. 5SOS are a band because they write their own music and they play their own instruments. It's not like someone records instruments for them and they only sing to it.

Also they're a band made up of (men now) but well boys so while they're not the same type of boy band that sing and dance, it's not a bad term because some boy bands are very talented and successful in their own right not to mention who also started writing their own songs later in their careers. Just because one may just sing and dance doesn't mean they're not talented and don't deserve respect because they have the boyband label. Nothing worse than music snobs complaining about a silly term that in the end means nothing.
