We're not. You can usually only really see in hindsight when a new gen has started. There are still way too many active gen 3 groups around for gen 5 to have started. Think back to when itzy/skz started, barely any gen 2 groups were active and gen 3 ruled the charts. Once bts, twice, bp, seventeen start slowing down you'll probably see gen 5 getting up to speed.

@@winter_falls903 This is a story of the one of the most tragic event in Kpop industry where an artist and a Company fight each other. LOONA is the most expensive Kpop group with more than 2BILLION investment in their Predebut era and it was said that LOONA Members aren't supposed to be payed until their 2BILLION debt is over. In 2022, Member Chuu filled lawsuit against the company for not paying and giving them harsh schedule and she won with statement "Chuu can control her own schedule". Also another member Yeojin posted in 2023 that they are still didn't get a single penh which was where the fight started. Now here is the whole concept.. a bit confusing but i try easy wording according to fans, LOONA have payed their debt 2Billion in 2020 by just album sales and streams.. also after the statement of Yeojin, One of the BBC staff revealed that the debt is just 10Million not 2Billion... Fans started a minor little boycott from company after knowing this... Chuu, since she can control her schedule, now she is getting payed and getting successful.. jealous of this, Company (named BBC) kicked her out of the group and Blamed her for abusing staff member so that people can defame her but since Chuu has such a strong positive image, everyone denied. The staff member subjected to be abused, refuses BBC claims. It was revealed BBC eat the money up... Contract Issue: According to Contract, Both BBC and LOONA will invest in Comeback but Major Part of Profit will come to BBC and LOONA will only get 1 Dollar if there comeback sales more than 500Million Album (it's just an example cuz it was too complicated to understand the contract) Fans started a Mega Boycott towards LOONA so that they cannot pay BBC and BBC announced LOONA Comeback named "The Origin Album"... In the meantime, LOONA all members filled lawsuit in November 2023 (9/11) and March 2023 (2 remaining) as they don't trust their company and won and now they are free from BBC in June 2023... Now all 12 LOONA members are free from BBC but BBC is still doing illegal things to stop them growing and Claiming their Rights such as LOONA official Accounts... The Main Comment means that Bebez is upcoming girl group of BBC and we are hoping that doesn't happen to them so they better left that company.. Also BBC CEO is a criminal itself

1st gen started 1996 to 2002s, 2nd started 2003 to 2011s, 3rd started 2012 to late 2017, 4th started early 2018 to not confirm the end but it says 5th will start on 2025 to 2032 from Quora. But there is also a 7 yrs curse that is going by. Also, they said new gen can start if K-pop groups are disbanding too much or losing interest or population. That's what I found. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Do you guys think so?

Honestly i agree, but i do kinda think 4th generation might stick around for longer. Along with one just one 3d generation group which is bts because they confirmed they renewed their contract to 2030 something.

KPOP generations usually begin with some kind of musical change. For this reason, if 5th gen has started it would have begun with new jeans in August of 2022. Edit: A lot of new 5 gen groups are going for a Y2K/ second or first gen vibe which new jeans kinda brought back to kpop

I think you all are confused... Generations in kpop don't go by years or by "the 7-year course", it's about a significant style change in musicality and/or concept, there no "official source" that declares that a generations begins or ends, it's about the Korean gp perception

i think we can see a new generation starting when agencies get their new groups to debut. for example, jyp debuted their new groups in 2018 and 2019, 4 years after got7 and twice. in sm, aespa debuted right in the middle of 4th gen, while nct debuted towards the end of 3rd gen, which seemed to be a beginning for 4th gen as their popularity rose in this generation. i'm mentioning them because these agencies are definitely leading the way in kpop. we can see the same in hybe when they debuted txt, debuting a new group for an agency is like debuting a new era for kpop i think (even though hybe's debuting schedule is kinda a mess now) so it's the same now. sm preparing their new boy group, yg preparing baby monster, hybe also debuting a lot of new groups this past year

Eh, 5th gen is more confusing than the beginning of the 4th gen. Although it's a fact that The Boyz and fromis_9 started the 4th gen, there are so many 2023 rookies that many are considering to be the 5th gen groups and some of them already ended the era of 4th gen debuts. Many are saying that xikers who debuted from March to be the ones who started the 5th gen, others say this, and others say it started right now this month. Right now, it's more confusing. Although I'm neutral to this generation thing of who's who started it, but I believe March was the start of the 5th gen. Debuts there have more unique visuals and there's a change of music which is a little noticeable.

I personally think 5th gen started with groups like New Jeans / Fifty Fifty / Triple S since the music style is much different but no one else thinks that so I don’t go around calling them 5th gen groups.

Well it looks like every 7 years the generation changes 4th gen started in 2018 if you add that in with 7 you get 2025. So 2025-2032 will be 5th Gen. If 5th generation started now Babymonster is 4th generation Korean netizens had already agreed that Babymonster is the last 4th gen group

There is no official date when a generation start or end, every generation usually last 4 or 5 years before the vibe change, such as: 2nd gen is from 2007 to 2012, 3rd gen is 2013 to 2017, 4th gen is 2018 to 2022. The transition of between each generation blend together hence no offical date. If you look at EXO, they debut April 2012 but consider as 3rd gen instead of 2nd gen. Compare to VIXX, they debuted a month after EXO but consider as 2nd gen. Or The Boyz, they debuted late 2017 and consider as 4th gen instead of 3rd gen. Compare to Wanna One, they debuted 3 months before The Boyz and consider as 3rd gen.

Im pretty sure theres a 7 yr mark or 4-7 yr mark but its now most common to see 4 yrs although it is listed that 2025 is when 5th gen will start but since 4th gen isnt completely done some upcoming groups might be labeled as 4th gen if they have the same concept as most 4th gen groups

@Frans Sinurat see this is why it hard to accurately divide generation. If we go by 10 years gap like you said, what about Sistar? They debuted 2010, and if you ask any kpop stan, most (if not all) consider Sistar as 2nd gen not 3rd gen. Or what about Stray Kids? They debuted 2018, kpop stan acknowledged them as 4th gen.

I just look it up it says that 1st gen started 1996 to 2002s, 2nd started 2003 to 2011s, 3rd started 2012 to late 2017, 4th started early 2018 to not confirm the end but it says 5th will start on 2025 to 2032 from Quora. But there is also a 7 yrs curse that is going by. Also, they said new gen can start if K-pop groups are disbanding too much or losing interest or population. That's what I found. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Do you guys think so?
