In this video I'm comparing the Cummins Genuine water pump to Bostech's version of the water pump for the early 6.7l's.
Yes, there are other brand water pumps available. Bostech just happen to strike my interest.

Came across your video while browsing for impeller comparison videos. Currently working on an 05 Ram with a leaking water pump. (Shaft seal failure, no bearing play, recently installed at a different shop) I searched the number that is on the front of pump near shaft and pulley. The “P” number surfaced as a Gates pump. Napa lists and sells this pump for 07-12 Ram trucks. It looks like your Cummins brand pump has the same number on its shaft/pulley area so you may assume Gates makes them for Cummins. I’ll be using a Carquest Premium pump for the truck I’m working on. This pump came with a metal impeller but it is not cast iron. There are times where I have great results with some vendors’ parts… and then they make a change in who manufactures them and we see issues. I try to recognize that quickly and do my best to purchase parts for my customer that will perform good long term.

Good info, Mike! I stand to be corrected but many brands use what I believe to be magnesium alloy for the impellers, which is commonly mistaken for some type of plastic. Regardless of the material, I've seen too many broken impellers to ever trust them. Not sure how familiar you are with Bullet Proof Diesel and their products but in short their main focus is to offer that "one and done" solution. Just about two weeks ago they released a water pump for the 5.9l and 6.7l. It's still undergoing Beta testing but my confidence is pretty high with this company given their history and my personal experience with one of their EGR coolers. I replace my OEM whit a car quest water pump 55 k miles ago , the OEM broke in Las Vegas during a work day , no time to order anything, still going strong

That Bostech housing has the same weep holes as my 2003 3 had.

Definitely a common theme. I do see many water pumps breaking off a fin/propeller or two. It's interesting. I just replaced the water pump in my 6.7. The Bostech (featured in this video) needed to be replaced. Under 15k miles. It wasn't the actual pump that went bad but it was the seal that went bad. It was a very cheap thin seal compared to the one I got with the Bullet Proof Diesel water pump.

***I plan on performing an additional test/s on the Cummins water pump to try to determine the material of the impellers. I've heard everything from plastic, aluminum, composite, aluminum with plastic coating, etc. Hopefully I straighten this out. Regardless, there are plenty of stories with them breaking off. I'm comfortable to say that the Bostech's impellers appear much more stout.

update: I ended up shaving off some of the material on the Cummins water pump impellers. The shavings were black. It may be built from a magnesium alloy, which is a common material for water pump impellers.

Seems to me the left one with 150 dollars is aluminum propeller that's good.

I ended up using that one on my other Cummins. It's a good piece for sure. I was too much up in the air using it in my newer Cummins. I was hearing/reading too many bad experiences during the filming of this video. Perhaps there was a bad batch of the Cummins boxed-branded water pumps, I don't know. Take care.
