TranDinhTu I can make a video on how to study in college in general but in the meantime your school curriculum should outline what books to read (once you start) but I wouldn’t worry about it until then. I would say once you start your accounting class, just make sure to pay attention in class especially since the first few classes are the foundation of accounting, ask questions, and try your best to understand the concepts.

Hey I had a question,do people in US generally need accountant to pay thier taxes or do people pay it on thier own and/or can CPA start their own practice (I'm assuming you understand the term 'practice'). The reason why I'm asking this is because people in the country I belong need Chartered accountants maybe because the tax system of our country is really really complicated and CA takes 5 years to complete contrary to CPA that only take 1.5 years ,so it might be because Tax system isn't that complicated and people can pay it own thier own.

Neon diamonds Aquaberry You’re talking Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) right? I know people who have volunteered their time during college. It would be nice to find out if you like taxes as opposed to other sectors of accounting while helping others. So I'm currently going into my second year of college intending to go down the accounting route. If I were to find myself struggling hard in Intermediate this semester, would you recommend backing out and switching majors?
@FinancialMatter
@FinancialMatter 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee, I don't think that if you struggle with intermediate accounting that it is the sole indicator to switch majors. I think instead you can ask yourself the following questions: do you understand or enjoy the subject of accounting, can you see yourself as an accountant in the future, and what can you do to understand accounting (getting tutored, extra help, talking to professor, etc). If you still find yourself struggling, I don't think it hurts to explore different types of classes (accounting or non-accounting) and also different majors that are a better fit!

Hey Lily My question to you is why do you want to be a pharmacist? Most of my friends from college were pharmacy majors and I can tell you that there are perks. In college, they have a tight knit group of pharmacy majors that help each other out, there's resources to help you, and there are many career opportunities (whether in retail, hospital, corporate, etc). One thing that I read recently was to find your passion and create your career based on that (rather than the other way around). So if there's something you feel passionate about related to pharmacy (or something else) then I think it's worth considering! Hope that helps!

I had to work nights on the weekends on my last semester at pharmacy school and had pushed off the required Accounting course to that last semester. My instructor told me I should drop the class because of my low first test score. I replied, "I can't do that, I am graduating this semester". So he really gave me that C, I did not earn it. But, I learned one super valuable fact: The one cash draw for one cashier, for one shift rule. The sharing of draws between people and the allowing of "management" to take that end of shift draw away without allowing the cashier to count it down for the last drop is not professional accounting practice. K-Mart had the practice of doing that to all the cashiers, so that gave them leeway to accuse anybody they wanted to of misappropriations. They tried that with me and I called them out on it. If I had not taken the accounting class, I would not have known that.

@FinancialMatter 5 жыл бұрын
It seems like you have a lot on your plate right now. I would suggest two things: renew your energy (self care, daily walk/run, spend time on your passions and people you care about) and then secondly, I would prioritize checking things off of your list so you can focus on more important things and people. During your lunch break, maybe spend some time on your paper and after work, spend time with your family. When they’re sleeping, spend some more time on the paper to bring it to a close. Keep focused on the long term so if you have to say “no” to small events that don’t bring as much value to you and your family, then so be it. Whatever you choose to do, don’t worry ✅.

Lily Zhou Yeah, it’s true that it depends on where you work. If you want to be social and able to travel in private accounting, you may want to work in private accounting for a big company which has multiple offices cross the country. Therefore, you will have opportunity to travel among offices or they may have lots of events or training activities for you to travel and to socialize.

I would say probably, but not completely. Popular universities will attract more employers to recruit on campus. However, you can always apply for jobs off campus as well. Also, you can have connections outside of the university to help you find jobs.

Not at all. The thinking that goes into just isn't going to able to be applied in a robot. You will be able to find a job no matter what - just realize with software changing you will have to be able to adapt quickly

Hey Gabriel. I've been in the accounting industry for 5 years. For the most part, I use basic excel and calculator on a daily basis. @@FinancialMatter well i am not an accountant but there is no way you can pass the ACCA management accounting/performance management exams without understanding the underlying mathematical structures. but i can see how the real world might be different. and if you are a 'financial accountant', things might be different to being a 'management accoutant'. and also British ACCA is probabably different to the american CPA I am studying ACCA but I have a very strong math background. This has helped me tremendously in understanding management accounting. And I still find management accounting to be difficult. there are logarithms, variable analysis, regression analysis, trend line and discounting, simulteanous equations and liner programing etc i wouldn't advice someone who just ' got by' in highschool math to do ACCA.
