I personally have done the 3Tb upgrade using the 2230 and the clear back... I'm also fully running Win 11, I'm just loving this thing. It's crazy to be playing COD setting the breakroom at work. Oh and please for the love of God please remember to take the SD card out before taking the back off. I didn't think anything about it and it costed me a 1tb sd card...=(

As someone who upgraded the SSD myself, as far as I know there exist no 3tb 2230 nvme SSD. So I am very curious how what and where did you find it? Who's manufacturing it?

Just did the hall effect joystick upgrade this morning and decided to go for a clear purple back case from jsaux at the same time. It looks awesome

The proximity of the SSD to the wireless card was a serious issue for valve to maintain proper heat in the area, and not end up with wireless issues. They did extensive testing and eventually decided they needed additional shielding even with the SSD's they chose. Mounting the SSD externally is more in line with Valve's engineering advice to be honest. It makes the storage hot swappable and distances the SSD from the wireless antenna and charge circuits they were concerned about.

As regards the 2280 M.2, I think people tend to go for those over the 2230 as they're cheaper and run a little cooler from what I've heard. There's actually a video on youtube of someone who managed to stick a 2280 inside the deck itself and also get the back cover on without problem xD

I have a 2280 in my deck. It does in fact run cooler as it's got more surface area and it doesn't take more power to operate

Didn’t steam come out on Twitter saying not to do that because it puts pressure on the drive or WiFi adapter or something?
@shashwatmittal5393
@shashwatmittal5393 Жыл бұрын
@@scavanger1000 Won't be surprised if they did and after now using my deck and modding the crap out of it, I would not suggest doing this either. The air pathways are very cleverly laid down on this device and it is running its hardware right at its thermal limits. Any over the top modding will invariably damage some hardware or the battery prematurely. 2230 nvme drives are cheap if you know where to look. I had sold my previous 256gb deck as I had buyer's remorse but then managed to pick a 64gb one for dirt cheap and slapped a WD 512gb ssd in ($50 on sale). Did a repaste with Arctic Silver 5 and it's an absolute beast now!
@sedalespencer69
@sedalespencer69 Жыл бұрын
@@scavanger1000 it literally doesn't touch the wifi adapter lol I think they said that because there's no way to hold the drive in place and it touches the battery. So it can technically be a hazard if a cheap drive is used or if the drive overheats, or if something else were to happen that would cause the battery to be punctured/catch fire, they wanna say "we told you not to do it". But I've had a 2tb 2280 drive in my deck for the longest time and it does run cooler than the 2230 ones.

I undervolted my cpu and gpu. Got the jsaux transparent case. The fan is super quite now. Never goes above 5200 rpm while playing apex legends. Most of the time it stays at around 4800 rpm’s at most. Also doing a memory expansion soon. I choose not to overclock because I was getting a constant 60 fps on almost all games besides cyberpunk 2077. So for me it would be a waste on the battery if i did over clock. Average temps on apex went from 85 without the mods to around 70 on low loads and a high of 80 degrees on heavy loads.

I can confirm I use a Samsung 970 evo plus 2280 nvme mod, all I had to do was unplug a cable on the battery, trimmed the battery metal case by a tiny margin to change dimension, cut 15% of the cooling metal that doesn’t have thermal paste, replugged the cable to the battery, inserted the 2280 mod, added thermal tape covering the 2280 nvme, and congrats you just created a brutal and clean 2280 modification to fit it like the small nvme for the steam deck. Incase you question about the metal cooling pad that I trimmed 15% of where no thermal paste was present I can confirm the temperatures are still the same as factory temps.

I just tried to leave a comment with the link I found for the other cooling mod but it instantly got deleted. Either way if you are interested in it you will have to purchase it from the maker of it. Or you can just get the jsaux one and add a magnetic cooler to it. Also a reason for doing the external SSD is because the internal 2230 ones we currently have are a max of 2tb while the larger 2280 can be 3tb or larger but also more expensive.

Iv upgraded the 60gb to a 1tb ssd and I'm working on a printed back plate that can support an additional fan, I originally was gonna use a black shark phone cooler fan but I'm now thinking about using a laptop fan because it is more compact. Also I added a 2 tb hardrive onto the back plate for more room

Why is bro using an Ai vocoder? There are times where the "voice" speaks to fluently even though traditional words or letters are missing. 2:33. The voice also never raises or lowers in tone, its just flat. Cool that your making content but it just feels empty, no passion at all.

M8, do you speak like an AI? or did you use something like elevenlabs for this? Also the transparent case for the steam deck is not that much of a non brainer, it is a more brittle and less strong plastic, and I would not trust it.
