Dustin Glenn Poirier (born January 19, 1989) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion. As of April 16, 2024, he is #4 in the UFC lightweight rankings.

Dustin Poirier (has wins over Conor, Max, Alvarez, Pettis, Gaethje, Chandler) and Tony Ferguson (12 ufc win streak) never winning the undisputed gold despite their legendary resumes shows that the ufc Lightweight division is on another level than the rest of the ufc divisions. 1 title defense in this division could worth 3 defenses in shallow divisions like Flyweight, Heavyweight, or Lightheavyweight.

I remember when Poirier was the interim champ and he kept saying he was the champion. Khabib was like there's only 1 champion and Poirier quit saying it. In reality Poirier has a way better chance against Islam than he did Khabib though. Should be great fight

@robertconklin3850 , I think Khabib was believing in lineal championship, which means you need to beat the previous champ to be the champ, and Poirier didn't do that so he was 'interim' champ. I think Khabib could fight for interim championship before when Conor had the belt but they said Khabib refused that and waited for the undisputed belt, won the undisputed after ufc took the belt from Conor then beat Conor to win the lineal championship. I think thats also the problem with Jones and Aspinall situation, Jones didn't beat lineal champ Ngannou to win the undisputed belt, he just beat another contender, same as Aspinall did, but now he refuses to fight Aspinall, which many people think Aspinall is the best contender if lineal champ Ngannou isn't going to fight.

@@timurjack8773 oh yeah. Fully agree. I think another reason for Khabib, was the fact he was already contracted to fight Alvarez and the UFC screwed him and allowed Connor the title shot even though they where already in contract to fight

You are right Justin does deserve the title shot but if he even was to make it through five rounds without being submitted that would actually be a huge victory and I think he will make it to the third before he is slept and that actually is pretty good if he makes it that far , this is real , realize the champ is a completely different level .

Justin deserved the title shot until he got knocked out by Max. Now Arman is the one who deserves it the most. Then Max, Justin\Charles equal. Dustin doesn't deserve the shot right now at all, despite being a legend. It'd be cool of he won, but it's hard to imagine.

I imagine Poirier is gonna go balls to the wall Round 1 and 2. If he stops to think or step backwards, it’s over. But if he trusts his cardio and power, he can KO Islam within those 2 rounds

Islam isn't that type of fighter you can chase around like poirier did to Connor,Islam is going to counter with hard punches or take him down, poirier is pretty vulnerable on the ground and Islam is a great submission artist..its going to be very difficult for poirier..wish both fighters a good luck,both are great guys..

i remember dustin at wec he was a teen looking guy he made so many unforgetables moments during his career ; He seems to be a legit good person with good fight fundation and last time when he was ok to fight BSD: hat of for him. I m french and i was scared for Dustin at the and of the 1st rd against BsD asorry for my french compat, I was rooting for Dustin (too too soon for BSD he felt a bit arrogant) 1It will be hard against Islam but he can win of course . A guillotine would be even funnier.... or faking this guillotine and while Islam is conviced of having the receipe to easily defend it.... and go to punches.... could be cool to watch

The time to doubt Dustin, is, if it ever existed, long gone. R The Guy is tough as nails, much more atletic às he may look, great fight IQ, is one of the most skillfull strikers, and the heart of a lion and the biggest threat there can be found for Islam at this time.
