6 FREE Stop Motion Apps iPhone iPad | LEGO Stop Motion Tips
My first stop motion animations were all done on my iPhone. I loved how versatile and compact everything was, especially when I could get shots that would normally be more difficult to get with a DSLR.
I still use my iPhone for times when I’m away from home and I know I’ll keep using it because it’s just too much fun not to.
But what stop motion apps ARE there for your iPhone/iPad? Today I’ll go over 6 FREE stop motion apps for your iPhone/iPad that you can pick up for FREE! Did I mention that they’re all free? I’ll go over all 6 and then tell you which one I think is the best and most complete.
I actually downloaded each app and used it for the same sequence. I wanted to see how easy each app is to use. Now, keep in mind, all these videos were shot quickly, so you’ll have to look past some of the mistakes. I tried to shoot them the way I wound’ve done it when I first started: meaning that I just pointed the camera, shot it, and did it as fast as I could so I could see the end result.
You'll see me open the app and start shooting right away. I wanted to see how easy each app is to use. Sometimes too many options can get in the way of the creative process.

Stop Motion Studio is my preferred version. Its so simple and easy to use. I've done a few tests with it already. I'm actually thinking of starting on my first lego film real soon.

You can’t mask without buying Pro just so you know so your characters can’t really seem like they’re jumping/flying

To be honest, I think Stop Motion Studio is all you need to make some great videos! I'm sure you'd agree that there's a lot more to making a video than just the app you use. Thank you. I'll be shooting Lego builds. I've been debating on doing video or stop motion. I just bought an iPhone so I can leave it on a tripod for longer shoots. I think I'll shoot a couple both ways... this has really made me interested in doing it stop motion.

I have a question: are there any apps that let you put you pictures in reverse order? I sometimes start with my end project, take it apart step by step and then show it in reverse, so it looks like you’re making it.

Thank you thank you! It was fun doing this video, especially making the videos of Chip driving and crashing. I'm always amazed on how powerful our phones are. It's as if the "phone" feature on them is the least important one lol.

I started by animating blind from my camera and then moved to stop motion studio. I think the app is great and you can tailor your control level with your skill level (I used to use all focus controls on auto and have moved over to manual). I also felt that the price of the app was worth it for everything you can do. I have it on my mind that I would like to eventually upgrade to a real camera and software on my computer- would you consider a tutorial like an Intro to dragon frame, or more about the tools you use for animating (software, step, camera, etc.) I have seen features in your tutorials that I think would be great -like seeing the audio wave file while animating- but I feel like I would still feel overwhelmed by upgrading something and having the chance to see someone else's setup can be super helpful to not feel as blind.

Dragonframe was overwhelming for me when I first got it, but I really think using Stop Motion Studio helped me at least understand the concepts. Honestly, Stop Motion Studio is such a powerful app... I still use it because it can do so much! I still don't use about 90% of what Dragonframe can do lol. I think Stop Motion Studio is excellent... there are some incredible Brickfilms made with that and the phone. What is it that you want to do with Dragonframe? Thank you for watching the tutorials. @@Brickology well I guess I don't really know what I would want to learn in Dragon frame because I don't have the software 😜 but I feel like it's got a lot of great features. Coming back to it I think what I really would find resourceful now (and not dragonframe) would be adding in things like cgi fire, or a digital alarm clock, a pip like you do when death and Thomas watch tv. I know those are all different things, but the post production stuff is where I feel I'm lacking most. And of course I keep watching, your videos are very funny and your tutorials are very easy to follow along with. Please keep doing your thing!

I use my IPad 6 Generation for my stop motions on Stop Motion Studio. Let me tell you, stop motion studio is one of the best apps. It had onion skinning, you can change the frame rate, you CAN buy other features, but it’s only $7 Canadian. Best app for stop motion in my opinion

Hello, I'm a new Brickfilmer and I learned a lot from you, thank you so much. I have a suggestion if it will work about gun shooting and hammertime. When having a gun, before putting the muzzle flash put a stud first, take a picture, then put the lazer beam or flash on it. I always wish a big success for you.

Thanks for another great video. This makes me so happy that I started with Stop Motion Studio. I didn't mind paying the $5 for the extra things and I have been using it since I started. I don't want to change because I know how to use it and I even know how to work around the little glitches that come up with it. It has worked really well for my dragon stories. I had no idea there were stop motion programs where you couldn't change your frame rate or use onion skin. That's awful. Frutz wuz here.

Your videos look great! Regarding the lighting, I would suggest just before every picture, make sure there aren't any big shadows in the shot. Otherwise they look good! Very fun videos :)

I’m 130$ away from getting dragonframe. Do you know if dragon frame comes with a cord to connect your computer to your camera? I’m hoping it does because I don’t wanna pay for an extra thing!! Thanks!
