a very good tip I received when I started to learn double back roll was that with extending your legs or bringing them back to your chest you slow or speed up rotation, this should be used when you try to land DB, when you rotate too fast extend your leg and vice versa. Double backroll feels a lot more fun than single backroll and you need more way height. Will have to try this toe side backroll and it looks neat

@@stevenakkersdijk your description of the separation between "popped and sent" is the key for me. I can make a scrappy effort at all these tricks but I believe I van steeeze them and refine them if I use the send a bit more

Exactly what I needed!! Especially the backtoll to toeside and the backroll tail grab. The rest seems too difficult for me yet... Double backroll I always lose my orientation, and popping from toeside is too hard for me, at least when it's not totally flat. Would be nice to have some tips for the backroll transition as well, when I land it's rarely smooth, something I do with my lines tension is wrong I think.

Awesome, I'm glad you find this video helpful! You can find some tips on the backroll transition later on in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9NjgZuSxL-RgGw.html In general I would say it's a good plan to watch the entire video as the tips I give for the normal jump transition also count for the backroll version.

Hey Steven. You absolutely have the best kiteboarding instructions on the internet. Was watching the one on Dark Slides and I have been nailing it. I am having a some trouble with my double back rolls though. I have done them on my 12 Orbit. Tried them yesterday on my 10M Pivot. I get 1 and 1/2 turns in and then the kite just yanks me down wind. Cannot figure out which hand I am pulling. Any suggestions to get out of this? Thanks Steve
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk 26 күн бұрын
Thanks Steve! i'm very happy to hear that you're enjoying the content. In order to solve your problem it would be important to know which hand you're pulling 😉 Most often it's the back hand when it comes to backrolls, but there are exceptions. Hands in the middle of the bar help to reduce steering movements, you can also tell yourself to pull the opposite hand during a trick. E.g.: I used to steer my kite up (left) during certain tricks, so I repeated: "right right right" during my trick in order to prevent it from flying left.

What are your tips to limit rotation besides straightening the body & pulling in the bar? I use swinging the legs back and pushing away from the harness but it gives a wobbly landing. Can you straighten one leg like when unhooked?
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
If you've extended your body there's not much more you can do. Swinging the body helps in some cases, but it looks and feels uncontrolled. Rather work on your take off and add less rotational force during the carve.
@cyberanswer
@cyberanswer Жыл бұрын
@@stevenakkersdijk Thanks Steven. Why does straightening a leg work when unhooked? Does it place tension on the lines? There was a recent non-gusty day where I did this hooked and was able to stop spinning as I went for an Indy grab. Possibly I let the bar out as I grabbed? Does pulling in the bar cause you to spin more? I don't quite understand the dynamics of hooked vs unhooked in regard to rotation and line tension.

Hey, do u have a tip for higher backrolls? I have no problem doing backrolls and even doubles in smaller heights. Every Time i go for higher jumps (5m+) i tend to send a Kiteloop, i dont know why my steering is so different. Do you have a tip for keeping the kite at 12? Or slightly past 12 Regards !
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
You'll have to focus on your steering and maybe adjust the grip on your bar. Other than that I can't really help you.

G'day Steven, great video ! With popping and jumping, how critical is riding cross-wind vs upwind for these types of tricks? I've seen a few of your videos now and they all mention cross wind course prior to take off. My progression has kind of stalled and I think this may have something to do with it 🤔
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
Cross wind is important as you want to build up speed which is way harder to do when you ride upwind. So it makes quite a big difference.

Hi Steven! Its possible that you are using the hook which is the freeride one from Mystic? (Not the traditional one) Thanks!

Yes it is. I don't really ride with a normal hook any more. Always with the small loop on the slider spreader bar.

@@stevenakkersdijk even for boosting Big Air, the freeride hook is good? Is it as safe as the normal hook? I am thinking yo buy it, after having some nice experiences (death loop because of the hook :) Thanks Steven!

@@Danieldaniel-gz8fe Been riding it for the past 2 years in all conditions (including 40 knot kiteloop days) and it worked out fine. just make sure to keep an eye on the quality of the rope. You might have to replace it after 1-2 years if it shows heavy wear and tear.

Any suggestions regarding consistently getting good height on a backroll? I ride in B a lot of chop and that definitely makes it more challenging on take off to be consistent with the height I get.
@stevenakkersdijk
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
Try to find a good take off between the chop, this is often really hard. But focus on the water and try to find that nice take off spot.
@loridelia5414
@loridelia5414 Жыл бұрын
@@stevenakkersdijk good idea to focus on the water. Of late I have been taking off on waves this gives me a ramp and clean water. Sometimes too much of a ramp 😂 But in waves and chop finding flat water is so difficult !
