I am an American who lived in Germany for almost 30 years. I returned to the US because my parents were getting ill in old age and they begged me to return. Bad move. Life in Germany is a lot easier because people respect each other more. They are not as selfish. And the healthcare system, the retirement system, the care for people with disabilities, for people in need, the education, the access to culture and more - these are ALL better and cheaper. Indeed, there are not as many really rich people in Germany but everybody is more equal. Germans do not believe that you are a "self made man" - in fact the expression is said in English and with a bit of irony. Why? Because they know that a community gives people the chance to earn more, learn more, enjoy more. I dislike the American system. Maybe it was great 100 years ago. But world culture has moved on. America is falling behind. Americans are more superstitious, more "religious" (so they say), more conservative. Too bad, because "conservative" does not mean "conservation" but "Letʻs return to the 19th century. I like your video a lot.

Driving in Germany: Beside the driving lessons there is one important thing: We follow the rules. And if some do not, it gets expensive very quickly. And there are the minus points registered in Flensburg as well. It is a lot easier to loose the driver's license than to get it back.

its not the smart driver, it is the driving system. you have to drive on the right site unless you want to take over, so you signal, pull over, pass and go to the right site again. in US you are all over the place and you cant watch every site as good as only one

jaeh but germans also pay like 1-2 thousend € for their driving licence, if they not learn good driving there that would be crazy xD "surprisingly" this works better then have ur older brother show it to you xD also cars gets inspected all few years regulary and if its not in good shape anymore or has some damage u are not allowed to drive it anymore so no broken cars on the street that together with harsher rules like tailgating can give you a fine of 450€, i think is fine knowing that in america every year there are about 1700 deaths because of accidents and 500,000 injured i rather have harsher laws there xD

German Autobahn actually HAS a speed limit! It is regulated by the flight registration and says that every object beneath 10.000 feet must not be faster than 463 kph (287mph).

The special thing is that the most German children shows are also made, that you can also look it as an Adult. "Die Sendung mit der Maus" takes the quatschens of the children seriously and they give a answer that can Chilean understand, but you can also learn from thet show, of you are older.

Germans dont get their licenses thrown at you at 16. You pay for it and actually learn for it proper. But it also makes sense, in the US you absolutely need a license to get anywhere with the lack of public transport and everything being so far apart. In Germany, in urban areas at least, you can live your whole life without a license and dont miss it.

It‘s really interesting to see one’s country through the eyes of a foreigner. I never gave the Mainzelmännchen or the Maus any thought before, but now you mention it, they are cute! And you’re right about the bread, the icecream and the döner- life wouldn’t be the same here without them. I was really surprised that there are more traffic accidents in the US, I should have thought there were fewer because of the speed limit. Maybe I was just lucky but I never had any trouble driving in the US.

Here are 6 things a german thinks america needs: Universal Healthcare Free Education (including college/uni) Better Gun restriction laws Better trained Police A system to save the unemployed (like Harz IV in germany) Better laws that regulate workers rights, like 28 days of holiday a year minimum, maximum work time, empolyers having to give their employees time off if they are sick or injured, without it affecting their pay or their holiday etc. And yes, these things would be incredibly hard to implement in the US, as a lot of people in the US think that all this costs more than it benefits you, but that is not the case. A system that helps unemployed people strengthens the economy, as poverty costs far more. Gun restriciton laws and Universal Healthcare go well together, as with better Gunlaws this could be cheaper, as gunshoot wounds tend to cost a lot. Same with better trained police. The wokers rights laws also strenghten the economy, as a worker that has holiday works better than one who works all year, an employee that is sick but comes to work anyway because it would harm him if he dosn't could infect the other employees, leading to more losses than he can make up for working whilst being ill, etc. Free education speeks for itself, as it evens out chances for everyone, and if the kids that live in poverty can make it to Uni and get a high paying job this also helps with a lot of problems. Oh, and one thing germany needs back: You!

As a German let me tell you: You have absolutely no problem pronouncing the "umlauts". Sounds almost perfect to me.

Regarding 'smarter drivers' : well, to get a driver's license here in Germany is a lengthly, expensive process. You need to have 12 lessons (90 minutes each) where you learn about the basic rules, 2 extra sessions (120 minutes each) where you learn things about cars (mechanic, gear boxes, kludges, brakes etc) . This is done in a 'Fahrschule' (Driving school?). Then the theoretical exam: it consist of (I think) 20 questions (out of about 1000 possible questions), multiple choice, often with pictures or short videos which show traffic scenes which you need to analyse to be able to answer the question. However, the correct answer may require you to tick all the correct choices (two or more choices may be part of the correct answer). It's a tough exam. Then the practical training. You need to have a minimum amount of practical driving lessons and you only can do this together with a trained teacher (Fahrlehrer). The practical lessons include driving on the Autobahn, driving in darkness, driving longer distance on country roads and of course driving in cities. Then you have a practical exam where you have to show that you can drive, park the car (parallel parking usually), honor speed limits, etc. The whole process to get a license usually (there a speed courses as well) takes about 3 months (or longer) and costs about €2000,-- or more. Once you have your license (18 yrs old) you have 2 years probation. Any serious mistake (speeding, not stopping on red or so) extends this time by another 2 years and you have to attend some additional lessons which of course cost money. In rare cases you may never get the license back at all. Given all this also younger people are more careful when driving. Of course we also have our fair share of 'not so good drivers' 😀.

and last not least, Americans need a responsible leader.

About the driving: What America really needs is once again, education. In Germany, there's a very comprehensive drivers education. It's an expensive process, maybe too expensive by some standard. But it's comprehensive, you really learn to drive, you learn all the rules and the importance of following them, and you only get to drive on your own if you pass a 45 minute practical exam as well as a theoretical test of thirty questions with an official body called the TÜV. And you only get to take the exams when you can show to your driving instructor in the last few driving lessons that you are ready, that you can drive following all the rules, so there's really no way to slip through the cracks and pass just because you were lucky. Also, there's a technical inspection of every car every two years to make sure they are safe to drive which further enhances the safety of traffic in Germany. By German standards, many cars on the road in the US are "Ein Fall für den Schrottplatz", which means they would better belong on a junkyard.

Yes I went to the USA in my holidays and I was so shooked that they don't have Döner there because it is so common in German but it is from turkey so I though it would be well known around the globe.

I add some things: -A leader who is intelligent and not a narcissist. -Education accessible for all -Food laws -Good beer -Lack of fascism

I think one of the reasons why germans are better drivers is, that they learn a few months and then they need to do 2 tests were you can fail easly. So in germany you rly need to be good at driving and need to learn the rules before you are allowed to drive. I think in the Us you can do a quick tests or something like this but its much shorter! Oh and when you like Döner so much: A few years ago 2 german man did go to the us to sell Döner. I'm not sure if they are still there. I think they had 3 or 4 shops.

"Die Sendung mit der Maus" is educational entertainment for children. They have huge variety of topics, because they want to answer all the typical question children have. I remember episodes about nuclear plants and childhood in the years directly after World War II. "Löwenzahn" is a similar show, but without cartoons. "Die Mainzelmännchen" are only shown on ZDF, which is the only TV station having something like this. I remember seeing something similar decades ago on Hessischen Rundfunk but I do not know if the HR is still broadcasting these clips.

I loved the Sendung mit der Maus as a child (and still kinda do)! It's super informative and educational and fun. It's also not just about different professions but about how the world works in general, from what different professions do to how elections work to basic physics to what a virus is and does to where the waste goes and so on. It's great! :D

The bread I can totally understand. Whenever I go someplace other then Germany, Austria or Switzerland I miss the bread (except for France with its amazing fresh baguette).

The Mainzelmännchen are Anton, Berti, Conni, Det (with glases), Edi and Fritzchen. This little guys only on ZDF til early evening. On some regional channels are similar cartoons like "Äffle und Pferdle" (SWR), Onkel Otto (hr) and we in the north have the walrus "Antje". Löwenzahn (dandelion in german tranlated is lion teeth, its a pun) is also an educational program for children. The moderator's narrative style is also used as an ironic stylistic device by adults today if they still haven't understood something after repeated explanations. You are right 5€ for Döner that fills you up. At McDonalds you would spend € 20-25 for that result and almost without chemicals.
