It would appear one should not try to learn equivalence of any sort in language matters. The core meaning of a sentence can be translated, words cannot. Its like operating in parallel universes where the only constants are those which cannot be misinterpreted- the actual meaning. Toll Video, Vielen Dank für die Erklärung.

That is exactly right. Everything can be expressed in another language. Translation, however, is not 1-to-1. There is no "this = that" when it comes to languages. They are different from the ground up. It is better to learn the "vibes" of the language and let the Sprachgefühl guide you. May the Sprachgefühl be with you. (Probably going to use that a lot more in the future. I really like how that sounds.)

wonderful, your teaching methods are amazing especially the translation of the tenses . My native language is Arabic and I am learning how to translate perfectly from or to English . Because we have only 3 tenses in Arabic, it is sometimes difficult to translate the tenses accurately . BTW , you speak fluently in both languages , I can't even know which one is your mother language .

Ich erinnere mich, dass ich, in einer meiner ersten Nachrichten, die ich Ihnen hier aufgeschrieben habe, nicht wusste, ob Sie Deutscher oder Amerikaner sind und dass weil Ihr Deutsch so echt authentisch und natürlich klang, für das Deutschniveau, dass ich damals hatte - so „Anfänger“ war ich :)). Derzeit kann ich so deutlich sehen. Ich freue mich sehr darauf. Seit 2 Jahren wohne ich in Deutschland und es sieht so aus, als ich Fortschritte gemacht habe. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich mich zusammen mit Ihnen weiterentwickle. Deswegen schätze ich Ihnen sehr und Ihre Arbeit auch. Ich wünsche Ihnen viel Erfolg und viele weitere Videos!

That is subjunctive in English. German would use Konjunktiv 2. This is not a tense, but rather a mood, which also has its own tenses. This video only covers the indicative mood. I have videos about Konjunktiv 1 and 2 coming out soon.

@@MrLAntrim ok yeah the relation between tense and mood is interesting. i think languages with a bunch of tenses esp. like estonian might have a tense for that. idk much about estonian though

Is there anymore context? In German it's really weird to say that you would or wouldn't want to overcome someone -> jemanden überwinden. It's probably weird in English too.

@@majdste5223 There are several ways to say that: Ich will nicht über dich hinwegentscheiden. Ich will nicht für dich entscheiden. Ich will keine Entscheidung für dich fällen/treffen. Das ist dein Bier (nicht meins)!

All languages articulate their meanings through the use of their language. None is more accurate than another. They simply use different ways to express the same things. German relies more heavily on adverbs and other context to articulate the same differences that English does through tenses.
