Yes, it's much work. Especially when it's in short clips and not just one long recording. But it can be fun too. I start some nice music and begin my work, it can be somewhat relaxing. And sometimes when I get to really stupid parts of my recordings I actually can't contain my laughter. So many fails and weird stuff you never saw. I feel silly for laughing about my own content, but it happens and I'm glad I can enjoy it. :D

anyone that can turn editing into a relaxing thing is either already insane or took 2 tablets of dexmethylphenidate. but if you can find a way to make it relaxing it's good for both parties. good to know you have fun at points too.

Which editor is it? I'm trying to find a decent free video editor --- currently I use Blender, which is _mostly_ pretty good, but it doesn't support much in the way of annotation features so adding text or graphics is hard. Export is ruinously slow, too.

As someone that does youtube videos (on another account) I specifically avoid doing the types of videos that require lots of editing. Typically just lets play stuff or visual novels with just the most basic of editing... (I have left in blank screens when the game has crashed in MP while we continue talking) So you get mad props from me. I am seriously impressed by how well you do with creating your narratives that quickly, and the fact that you did it on horseback blows my mind. Truly the internet's best Kraken

I definitely can relate, Danny! Editing is a lot of work, and some people think that it’s easy. It’s really not. The thing I really respect about your channel is how you make the music line up almost perfectly. My first editor I used was Windows Photos, and that went as well as you’d expect. But it’s very pleasing looking at your final project, seeing all the parts you did well, and then moving on to the next video with some improvements you could make!

I can totally relate to this, although I'm kinda amazed it's only six hours. For a 15 minute video I'm releasing tomorrow, it's two to three days of real life work, a few hours cranking out a script, recording it, and then fitting, and then having to score and get all the technical aspects out. Oddly, with my last video, I spent the better part of a day getting the music, thumbnail, and subtitle all sorted in a marathon session ...

The difference between you and me ... You got tougher doing this, I broke. My most popular video took over three weeks to produce. And I basically started out with a clear target in mind. And the first thing I did was writing a script. Then it was recording cutting and often re re re re recording. Well, the result is something I'm (still) proud of since I sound way smarter than I actually am (cause I did cut out lots of umms and amms and such, and wired pauses) Oh, I didn't mention that the result is only a few minutes long.

This whole video just reminds me of how tiring and tedious any truly worthwhile creative project truly is. My movels were similarly a slog, though very much worth it. Even if the act of writing them sometimes left me wondering what the heck I thought I was doing trying to write a novel.

As someone who was inspired by your still to start editing, would you recommend Vegas to a experienced beginner who does the subtitled gameplay style? I used and liked Premiere Pro for a while, but recently lost access to it and can’t afford it. I am incredibly biased against Premiere. I have always used Vegas, I tried Premiere twice, but both times it drove me nuts. The UI is atrocious, the only crossfade you can quickly do (dissolve) had an opacity bug, and I can't easily do other crossfades, stretch / compress clips which I use extensively for beat-matching, and I couldn't even bear the play/pause in PP because the playhead didn't return to the start on pause. I often spam space to see the same few seconds over and over, not being able to do that in Premiere got me real annoyed. People coming from PP to Vegas have the same kind of annoyance with other stuff. It can do the things you need it for, but going nuts while using it is another question. Do try it though.

@@Danny2462 Thank you for the advice! I originally tried out davinci resolve because you can get it for free, but it did not work for me. Not only can I just not create titles quickly enough to support my style, and i hate how you have to constantly switch modes. Right now I am using Premiere Rush on the free trial, and it works good enough as a basic editor, but the fact that it is linear makes final adjustments impossible without messing up timings, and it just isn’t powerful enough. I think that the main barrier is just changing your workflow to mach the editor, because I remember disliking premiere for those reasons. I will try Vegas though, just because I need something more powerful. Thank you for your great response, and sorry for rambling!

May I know how much gameplay hours take for you to create the footage for editing ? It probably cost more than 6 hours .....

Completely random. Sometimes I stumble onto something and it just works, sometimes I have to go back and record / re-record, and sometimes I actively have to find more stuff / explore the glitch / re-try a scene multiple times. There's no way to tell

"You can't just [work] for 6 hours straight... it will cause burnout... and a loss of creativity." This, right here, is why "amateur" videos and games can outperform Hollywood and AAA titles. Lower QUANTITY of work, higher QUALITY of work.
