The manufacturer of the egg cracker is German company Rösle... and they created their own version of the aptly named "Clack" (for the sound it makes when cracking the eggshell). In German it is also called "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher" or in English "Device for the creation of a predetermined breaking line on eggshells" ... the "Clack" was created in 1999, and likely was not meant to be taken entirely seriously - but somehow it persevered, and it still is available after more than 20 years :-) Do we need it? Not really - but it is FUN... at least for Germans...

Maybe good for a dorm room, but in my kitchen I got silicone rings I can put in my frying pan to cook the egg, and I toast the muffin in the toaster right next to the stove top. I don’t use cheese, although I could, and I use pre-cooked bacon that takes 15 seconds in my microwave to cook while I fry the egg and toast the muffin. I think it’s just as quick as the muffin sandwich maker, and I don’t have to make space for it on my counter top. I recently bought an instant pot, but it was a mistake. It’s more trouble than just cooking things the usual way, in my opinion.
@Mystress1980
@Mystress1980 4 жыл бұрын
@@nanniwa The instant pot takes some time to get used to but once you've got it, it's a huge time saver. I have the sandwich maker and love it. No dirty pan or rings to clean up, I don't have to drag out my toaster, and I don't need my microwave. Just put all the stuff in and walk away for 5 mins. The cooking rings are non-stick so a quick rinse in soapy water and you're all done. It's also really small so it's easily stored in the corner of a cabinet.

I love the rebranding going on for gadget number 5. We had one of these, as did many friends and familly, in the 70's and it was sold as a salad washer/dryer. You washed the lettuce and put it inside the basket, stepped outside and whirled it round and round to dry our the lettuce... Then they invented plastic drum salad spinners and now, Exactly the same gizmo - totally different sales pitch.

That egg separator might be easier for people who don't separate eggs often... but I don't know how much time it really saves, when you add in the fact that you have another thing to wash when you do the dishes later. Using the shell (or for some brave folks your fingers) is absolutely faster AND easier in that regard.

I really liked the egg cracker thingie. I have arthritis, and holding a knife is difficult. I also love soft-boiled eggs, which makes for a problem. This gadget would solve that nicely. I also loved the muffin cooker. When it is hot enough to bake bread outside, you really don't want to heat up the kitchen, too. This gadget would get a nice, hot sandwich with no heating up the kitchen. I bet it uses less electricity than the stove+toaster, too. If you are traveling, you can have a meal in the hotel room for a big savings. Another win, I think. The beer thing (pretentious), the hotdog thing (cleaning nightmare), the separator (moderately useful), and the basket (potentially useful but too unstable).

Basically this. It's the problem with a lot of infomercial type products like these, they're designed for people with reduced mobility or other physical impairments (reduced grip strength is the most common probably) but in order to make back their money from development they need to sell more than the population of people with those problems, so they have to concoct a sales pitch to get the handicapable to buy them.

For my kitchen, I'm not a big fan of single function tools (the muffin maker, the draft beer tool, the egg seperator), but I could totally see the hot dog tool being used to score other meats quickly (I'd just use a knife instead). I also support a guy who has a disability, and he finds single use tools like that muffin maker make it really easy to get the rythm to remember how to make those dishes.

@kylethekidable
@kylethekidable 4 жыл бұрын
@@traewatkins931 actually a surprising number of gadgets, particularly kitchen gadgets are in fact designed for those with disabilities. That said, catering specifically to disabilities isn't a super successful business model. Most end up marketing to the masses because 1. It leads to more sales which is more profit and 2. It gets the product out there more, making it more likely someone who may make real use of it will see it. Just about any commercial with the cheesy b-roll clips of some dude horribly spilling everything in his hands and then burning his house down on the way to the ground, is pushing a product that was likely designed for someone with a disability. My favorite example and one that also was a big hit in general was the slap n chop. It's convenient for many people, but it was made for someone who doesn't have the dexterity or hand strength to hold a knife for prolonged periods to mince something, instead they can just slap it til it's minced. Another is that cheesy novelty spaghetti spoon that spins for you...was made for people who have hand dexterity problems.

...has there always been a "you decide" thing on these videos? I understand wanting to interact with your audience, and Sorted is damn good at it -- there's such a good community here, but it just felt kind of weird to me here. Maybe just add "were these useless or not? You decide" at the end instead of after every gadget. I just feel like they weren't able to properly share their opinions aside from a quick line because they wanted to make sure viewers knew to comment. Idk. I really did enjoy the video besides my comments, though! Keep it up, guys!

1. Useful depending on the person. I see why someone may like it. 2. Idk if it's useful cuz I don't drink but it looks like fun. 3. Useless. Knifes are more versatile. 4. Useless but I don't have my eggs like that so maybe I'm wrong. 5. Useful if it's more stable than it looks. 6. Useless. Even if you can't separate eggs, the gadget can be replaces by an empty water bottle.

Most kitchen gadgets (and other infomercial gadgets besides) are specifically made for disabled people. So those that lack a limb or that don't have very good manual dexterity with their hands. Which, if they were to handle a knife, bad things would happen. The gadgets are just generally marketed to the public in order to recoup the cost of making them, since the market of disabled people specifically is small. But the devices themselves are purposefully made for disabled people in mind.

Maria C. Exactly!!! It’s not the same without all three in a gadget video...they used to be so passionate about the food and teaching people how to make things but now it’s just like...every Pinterest/Reddit cooking show on the internet. I found them and loved them for their originality and love for food. I mean hell they are the reason I ultimately decided on going to culinary school. They helped me push my passion. Food and cooking saved my life. I just wish they had the same...passion that they used to. You know? No offense to the boys...

You're right. I does feel like they've lost sight of the whole brownie point competition/food heaven-food hell thing... I guess it's just been going on too long (it feels like they've started that almost a year ago). I feel like we need to wrap this up, otherwise the whole thing was just (brownie)pointless... But I don't think that they've lost their passion for food. Naturally they've changed some things over time. But change is normal and necessary to progress in life. Just my two cents, but I think you're being a bit harsh here. Though you're certainly entitled to your own opinion =)

I have that brand of egg cracker, use it for raw eggs, stops egg shell getting into things and resolves how to crack eggs open in a food safe manner. My 6 year old struggles to crack eggs but with the cracker it is easy for him adding to his confidence in cooking. Very clever design. Note the egg that is handed cracked in the video isn’t the recommended way. The outer surface of the egg shell could be contaminated, then cracking on a sharp edge can drive outer shell fragments into contact with white/yoke
