6 MONTH OLD BABY UPDATE: Sitting Up, First Tooth, Separation Anxiety, Fussiness, Leap 5, Milestones
Today is all about Evelyn's 6 month updates! What she's been up to, changes since her 5 month update, and just how things are going. We'll be talking about her getting her first teeth, being able to sit independently, separation anxiety, more of our Leap 5 experience and milestones that are causing a lot of fussing and crying but also a great leap forward developmentally, and much more! I hope this is helpful if you have a baby near her age and are wondering what to expect (of course, keep in mind all babies reach their milestones at different times and that's totally normal!).
If you're new here, I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old baby girl, I currently exclusively breastfeed for those of you wondering and I'm also a stay at home mom!

I found your video when looking up leap 5. My baby is 5.5 months and our babies are doing ALL the same exact things. It made me feel so good seeing another baby and their development line up with mine. Then you said Evelyn and that’s my daughter’s name too! My jaw dropped ♥️ My Evelyn is in a very clingy fussy stage now. Today is day three of it and it is exhausting. I’m hoping it passes soon. She’s crying when I walk away and it breaks my heart. Love the tip about the pot holder and letting her go through her toy basket on her own. I’ll have to try that. Thanks for the video ♥️♥️♥️

Awwww no way!! I can’t believe we both have Evelyn’s AND around the same age too!! The separation anxiety that you’re currently going through with you little one is totally normal, just know that! It broke my heart too whenever she’d cry when I walked away. It made it very hard to get anything done BUT even though it doesn’t feel like it in the moment, it truly is a phase and we are definitely now past the worst of it. Honestly I think it got better after a couple of weeks or so. At least as far as her not getting so sad when I walked away. (She still gets upset when around other people besides me and my husband, but this is all a HEALTHY part of their development ☺️) Playing lots of peekaboo and always telling her when you’re leaving and that you’ll be right back I think helps a lot! So, while she was laying on her back I’d take a light weight cloth and gently flap it over her face playfully and say “where’s Evelyn?” And then pull it up and say “there she is!” And then I’d do the same and hide my face behind it over and over again and make a game out of it. I’d also hide behind the door after leaving her room and pop back into view and do peekaboo that way. After awhile she grew to enjoy that activity and it helps them learn that just because they can’t see you doesn’t mean you’ve actually vanished. And then whenever I’d leave the room (and I still do this!) I always turn and look at her and say “I’ll be right back, just a minute” (and maybe tell her what I’m going to do like “I’m going to wash my hands” or whatever). And then, especially when she was fussing I’d call to her from wherever I was in the house and tell her again that I’d be right back and what I was doing. I know it feels like they don’t understand but after a while she will associate what you’re saying with what you’re doing and what she can expect to happen next (you coming back shortly) and it will help set her fears at ease. It takes time and she may fuss at first but it will get better! Hang in there!! Definitely come back and keep us updated with her progress. 💛

okay but is anyone dying at night? I need to hear theres light at the end of the tunnel. I hate to have to pick my LO up and nurse him back to sleep. I'm scared this will form a sleep association.

I have another video on my channel all about what I did to help her get past sleep regressions! Sleep was horrible at the beginning! I also shared in another video what we did for naps. I hope those help!

I also wanted to help my baby become a happy independent sleeper, like you, didn’t want to create habits that would be hard to break. Since she started sleeping through the night she has become the happiest most energetic little child! For me, I found those first 3 months are all about helping her adjust to this world, but as she moved towards 5 and 6 months we really worked on establishing routines and healthy habits. It’s hard at first but I promise it pays off! I was shocked that even MY horrible sleeper could sleep through the night 🤣 It was hard to believe that day would ever come in the thick of it!

We are sleeping through the night now which is amazing but still struggling with early morning wakings so trying to figure out the culprit! But other than that, doing very well!
