hey thanks for these videos, I am Italian and I bought two touareg, the first was 2.5 tdi manual transmission 2004 full of problems, now I have the 3.0 tdi 2006 automatic transmission and it is fantastic, very little expense. I changed the transmission shaft support with a special tire that does not require dismantling for a few euros, the rest normal maintenance, I am registered with the forum touareg italia and I share your videos. sorry for my language i use the translator. congratulations, bravo!!

I just bought myself a Touareg 2008 V6 TDI and I have to say I god damn love this car.There are some things I have to fix also but driving with that BEAST is absolute dream.I knew that some day I can buy it for myself and now I have it.It's good to see that there is still some guys who make Touareg videos on youtube so that I'm not alone here :D and then I get to know some things that I still don't know.You guys have a lot cheaper cars at US,in Estonia a good Touareg like mine will cost at minimum 6000 euros so I'm kinda amazed that you got yourself a 2009 touareg just with 4000 dollars,its so cheap :D.I will subscribe and hope to see some new touareg videos in the future. ;)

@@spottedeuros1529 The touareg is definitely a better call in terms of urban driving, it's much easier to drive and park . I was concerning about the reliability, but from your videos it seems pretty good. My only concern now is the stability when towing since I've never towed anything before, and my buddy is constantly saying that the Full size trucks are much more stable on the freeway due to a longer wheelbase. Thanks!

I have taken this Touareg to it's limit. Even at towing 8K lbs the touareg feels great. Very stable and plenty of power. A full size truck will be more stable. It's a bigger vehicle. But trucks are expensive. Touaregs are pretty cheap in comparison.

Awesome! After owning an 06 v8 from 2011 to 2018 and going from roughly 23k miles to 158k I felt like I had to sell it after about $12k in repair costs alone. Given it was my mistake to allow the dealer to put a new transmission in it for $8k. I now have a 2014 f150 mid level trim package and man I miss my Touareg! No comparison in quality, comfort, handling and ergonomics! Not to mention long drives in the truck anywhere from 50 to 500 miles or so feel like I’ve driven twice as many miles as in the Touareg. The Touareg made long drives a breeze! Not to mention best vehicle in the snow, after living in Lake Tahoe for two years I had a blast driving it in insane snow storms sometimes with a foot of unplowed snow! After your videos I’m inspired again, going to sell my truck and get an 09 or 10 Tdi, seems much better than the V8 in terms of power and fuel economy but I’ll have to find one with air suspension and a rear locking diff and Nav screens. After having those options it would be hard to have less!
@spottedeuros1529
@spottedeuros1529 4 жыл бұрын
Yea man. VW has always had problems with making a strong transmission and these Touareg aren't excluded. A Touareg V6 Tdi with air is the unicorn. I am with you. Once you have had the air suspension you don't want to go back. They are hard to find. It was an option for the second generation Touaregs. I don't think it came standard on any of them.

Great video, love it. We picked up a 2009 tdi Touareg a couple of months ago. It has been great so far. Only issue we have is the intermittent wiper doesn't work! Moving the stalk to auto position and then the rotary dial when driving in rain you just get one wipe and nothing more! I know the auto setting is related to rain sensing and speed. Checked with VCDS and there are no errors related to the wiper system. When in continous wipe setting the wiper blades do stop when you come to a standstill so it seems the speed recognition part is working. Just really odd and living in the Pacific North West light rain is pretty common so it would be nice to have an intermittent wiper! I suppose the issue could be the rain sensor itself. A quick question, have you had to add fluid to the adblu tank? If so are you using the VW fluid or the more generic DEF fluid you can get anywhere, eg Costco etc?
@spottedeuros1529
@spottedeuros1529 4 жыл бұрын
iain lloyd interesting. My 2005 V8 Touareg’s auto wipers never worked either. They are working on this 2009 Tdi however I wish there was a way to slow them down. Often times the auto wipers are going too often for me. Ha Yes, I have used just the generic DEF from Walmart. You can fit two gallon jugs in the system. I wish the fill nozzle was fuel nozzle. Always seems to spill in the trunk. I have heard of people having to use adblue only but it seems to be just on the newer touaregs. Post 2011.

I agree with the other poster. You shouldn't put "Don't buy Touaregs!" in the title. Many people won't watch the video and then they just assume you are ranting about high cost. Josh, I've watched most of your videos and my only negative comment is that most are about 2-3 times as long as the really need to be to convey the information. I am a huge fan of these vehicles and plan to buy a TDI in the next 6-8 months, if there are any still around (seems like I keep seeing the same 10 or so listed around my area for the last 6 months). I am very happy to see you have 180k+ miles on yours with no major issues. I was a little worried about timing chain problems with these based on other VW/Audi chain issues (S4-V8 and many VR6 for instance), but I am not really finding any reports of that being an issue on these TDI.

Great video! I was wondering what your opinion was on the difference between a 2009 TDI & 2011 TDI. I know that it was updated & refreshed in 2011 & was considering buying a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Executive with almost 98,000 miles for around 11 grand. it has a pretty clean carfax but as I am sure you know a carfax does not really tell you all there is to know. So after rambling this long, I would love your feedback on not only the 2011 & up VW Touareg overall as far as being worth it & or problematic, but also if you think with that limited info if the one I am eyeing sounds like a good deal. Thanks in advance & you have a new sub!

I'd love to get a newer generation Touareg. The platform and drivetrain is the exact same. I love these Touaregs and mine have always been reliable. As you saw in the video mine has 185k miles and still feels great. The Tdis require very little to keep going. 11k for a 2011 with 98k sounds like a good deal. Depends on the condition of course. Usually you can get a pretty good idea on how the car was treated based off the carfax and the condition of the car. Just watch the extra fees if you are buying it from a dealer. The sales price is just one line on the agreement.

The 2011 lost the transfer case and got a better 8 speed transmission. Thar means it's about 400 pounds lighter. You will never miss the low range transfer case when you have 2 extra gears and 400 pounds of less pork

@@spottedeuros1529 Thanks a ton for the feedback! Yeah I have to give you credit for sparking my interest in these Touareg's TDI's. Fuel economy & classy all rapped in one with a Porsche platform. You did a great job with practical real life experience owning this VW, so thanks again! Are there any tips or key things I should keep an eye on when I go check on it? Also anything I should expect to fail & repair/replace? I ask so I can prepare before hand & maybe source a deal on replacement items in advance before failure. Thanks again friend, you rock!

Rhonda, I just bought a 2012 but paid quite a bit more than that, $18,000 for a basic Sport with Nav TDI with 76,000 miles and basically flawless condition, brand new Pirellis, just fully serviced, etc. The key for me was it was just modified from the dieselgate buyback program. That means from my purchase date for 4 years or 48,000 miles it has most everything covered by a VW factory powertrain warranty. Only the transmission and axles are excluded. All of the fuel system, all of the motor, the turbo, all of the emissions in the exhaust, even the computer is covered for my next 4 years. Right away I needed a new #5 feul injector and it was a $400+ dollar repair done for free. No other problems since in 3000 miles. It's getting 26 mpg in mostly city driving, I'd say 60/40 city/highway and my commute is short so the car doesn't even reach operating temperature by the time I shut it off. I have done a few longer highway runs and getting 28-30 mpg is pretty easy.

When I see such a title I just wonder if anyone would actually purchase this vehicle from you? Can you keep the dealership separate from the ambition (I assume) to monetize your online presence?

@@spottedeuros1529 got ya, I did a cost of ownership analysis on my 2013 GTI recently. And basically 2 years after paying it off I am averaging about $80 a month to keep it going. This includes recommended maintenance costs (which I always do) and repair costs (needed intercooler repair and thermostat replaced recently, etc). This excludes oil changes and brakes (which EVERY car will need if you actually drive it). Basically to drive a car that I have as much fun in from the day I purchased it right until this very day does have a price tag on it...but I am more than willing to pay it. I'm at 130k miles too, so I spend a lot of time in my car. Everyone has their own equation I guess but it is a healthy exercise to do no matter which car you own. Good video man.
