For the Hammermill paper, it is probably Index type rather than Cover type card. You won't get the wrong weight if you use the GSM (grams per square meter) weight for card rather than the lb. rating. 110 lb index card is about 199 GSM. 110 lb cover card is about 298 GSM. The card stock package doesn't always say whether it is cover or index, but you can tell from the difference in the GSM.

Hi Mary! You have nice tips here, and after watching it, I have a great tip for you. It's one I've used for many years. To keep the tops of glue bottles from sticking, I have used a thin layer of Vaseline around the rim. I also use it for paint bottles, spray cans, and glitter paste jars. It works for any product where the lid could get stuck on. I've even used it for honey and maple syrup. Give it a try, and you'll never have a problem with stuck on lids again.

Hey Mary, I just thought of something that my husband picked up for me yesterday at Harbor Freight. He gets me a 12 pack of the 12x12 micro fiber clothes for $4.48...YES, $4.48. WAYYYY cheaper than getting them on Amazon. I use them for cleaning my stamps and for cleaning up after I do blending, watercoloring, cleaning my brushes. The only time I don't use them is when I use glitter paste because it really makes the clothes HARD. (I use paper toweling for that kind of clean up). Thought I'd let other crafters know about this bargain. Be well -

Harbor freight has great crafty goodies. I use a magnetized bowl for when I work with dies. I have boxes that are normally for screws and nail to house my die cuts and sentiments. I even carry my die cutting machine to crops in a Harbor Freight bag.

Hola, been using the silicone mats for years with my embossing and holding stuff still. You can also purchase a "silicone soldering" mat, great for a larger area and hold paper still on it's smooth surface. Mine cost $8 at the hardware store. Just had an extra hack if you need it that I have also been doing for years. If you have a need for the "kevlar craft" mats that are as thin as paper and roll up. They are around $17-$18 for a size just over a standard sheet of 8.5"x 11" paper. I bought the exact same product in the form of an "oven liner". It is about the same price from Bed, Bath and Beyond, maybe a little less with a coupon, but it is 3 times the size. I used these when crafting away from my desk. Like out on my patio or sunroom table. Lastly, (sp?) I took a glass paperweight that fit easily in my hand and glued a piece of felt to the bottom and it not only decorates my desk, holds my papers down, but is the perfect item to slide on my stamping platform to "press" my stamps down. I barely need to press as it it heavy all on its own.

I didn't realize that Amazon sold the Makeup Brush holders for such a reasonable price! Thank you! Also, I have been using the small bottles for several years now. One tip I have for those is that if they do ever get clogged, instead of pushing my stainless steel pin into the clog to unclog it (risking that it will get stuck and require pliers to pull it out), if I instead pump the pin in and out to loosen it gradually, the pin doesn't get stuck in the tip. Either that, or I soak the top in warm water to soften the clog. It doesn't clog with the cap on, but if I leave it too long on the table without using it, it does sometime clog. I use Art Glitter glue now, although I have heard good things about Barely Art glue.

I agree with @Nancy Backes that you probably didn't get the cover paper. It's much thicker than other cardstock regardless of the weight. I use Neenah Solar 110 lb. for cardbases but when I want to hot foil, ink blend, or do something that requires super smooth cardstock I use the Hammermill cover. It's the one with the large chameleons on it (not gecko) described as "Hammermill, 122549, Premium Color Copy Cover, 100 Bright, 60lb, 8.5 x 11, 250/Pack, Sold As 1 Pack." As I usually only use 1/4 of each sheet at a time or less, it has lasted me a long time.

I enjoyed and clicked like on your video. I often use Neenah Index 110, it is a nice and versatile paper. Some paper is too heavy, if the card will have layers. AND I get very frustrated because so many factors determine the quality of paper, and when you find a good one the information might not be on it. I make my own "chuckie" from a wooden stamp block and a felt pad from a furniture moving kit at the $ Tree. I had a LOT of block stamps which I have converted to cling stamps. That means the blocks are free and I can make several pressure tools for #1.25. I often shop at Re-Store and I am going to look for those light diffusers .(at least I think that is what they are. My hint for labeling is to make the label BEFORE you fill the bottle. Once I fill a bottle I am usually eagar to use it and procrastinate until I know longer know what is in what. Thanks again.

Hi. Thank you for this great video. I like a heavyweight cardstock of 300gsm, my fave is Portfolio Smooth Pure White, great for card bases, ink blending and a host of other things. I agree about the brush/tool holders, I got one for about five quid on Ali Express, I also got my needle tip glue bottles from there for a couple of pounds as well as some cheap syringes for filling them. Bargain! Another good tip for those who don't have a gem picking tool... Sasha Reade( or is that Reede?) Uses a poking tool with a bit of Blue Tack on the end and Natasha Foote uses a white wax pencil a bit like the ones used in nail salons. I can vouch for both of these ideas! If I think of/ remember any more I'll let you know. Thank you once again for your pearls of wisdom.

the mat: you can use it on the gelliplate as well to make texture with. Also : I use a silicone mat, a normal one when I want to apply glue with a gluestick onto (thin) paper. The paper will not slide or move while applying the glue. It's actually the silicone itself that is non-slip, used in kitchen drawers for instance for it's non-slip characteristic, or in a car for phone on a dashboard etc.

My favorite paper is Georgia Pacific 110 pound card stock, 92 brightness. I use it for a YYI of projects using a huge variety of inks. It works excellent! Just discovered you! I am ALWAYS on the lookout for ways to cut costs in my craft room, and you are right up my alley! I have used foam core board and hot glue to make SO many different storage units! (I can share pics if you are interested) I loved the idea of TH glass craft work surface, but thought the price was way too high for my budget. I salvaged a tempered glass shelf from the bottom of my neighbor's refrigerator that had died, covered the backside with Cricut transfer sheet and used a Sharpie to make the 1" lines show up better. Then I purchased the replacement mat from Ranger (I tried butcher paper plastic side up, but that just didn't work - wrong material) WAY cheaper! I had planned to use gridded clear Contact paper, but couldn't find any, so the Cricut transfer sheet was a second and more costly choice, but works well -- you just have to work to make sure you remove the air bubbles. Mine is also way bigger than the one from TH.

I haven’t tested either with alcohol markers because I’m really not into coloring with them, so I can’t say how well either do with the markers.

Okay, so apparently they have changed their packaging. I had to find my previous Amazon order. Look for the one that has 271 gsm along with the 100 lb paper. The gecco is smaller now and the one with a big gecco is only 60 lb. Here’s the description: Hammermill Cardstock, Premium Color Copy, 100 lb, 8.5x11 - 1 Pack (250 Sheets) - 100 Bright, Made in the USA Card Stock, 120024R, White

@@marypolancodesigns you are most welcome. I just wanted to thank you again for your kindness a few months back with my son who was planning to join the USAF. He’s currently at basic training in Lackland and was lucky enough to get the job he wanted with fire protection which he will start in August. Thank you Mary. You are an awesome human being!

I just picked up those precision bottles last week on amazon. was tired of using syringes for glue. Love the use of the triple thick.

Thank you for these great ideas! If the little silicone glue topper drives you crazy, you can put a rubber band around the bottom of the bottle and tuck it inside while you work. I had been using a pin, now I'm going to see if it'll stay unclogged without. Also, for an alternative to the dry eraser, I had an old hand held sander. It's quite heavy and I just glued felt on it where the sand paper would go!

Oh no, it looks like you got index cardstock instead of cover! Hammermill doesn't mark "index" on their index cardstock but they do mark "cover" on their cover cardstock. I recommend trying the cover cardstock instead, which is available in a few weights on Amazon. Although Accent Opaque is my favorite cardstock, Recollections 110 lb (a Michael's brand) is a super close runner-up for me. Slightly more cream-colored, but gives finer stamping than Nina Solar White. Plus it's often on sale.

My 110# Hammermill paper is perfect for my card bases, especially with a base layer and topper added. I have no complaints. Maybe I got lucky and just bought the right type of Hammermill, as Nancy's comment below is full of excellent advice. Happy crafting!
