Most of the things I made were not as polished as what I could have bought, but they always got the job done. I didn’t realize until watching your videos I have not been asking myself this question for a while now. I don’t know when or why I stopped asking the question. Creator trick to "store" the various tool pieces to a fixture. For example the drill chuck key on your drill press. I break open old hard drives to pull the neodymium magnets out. Then I slap one magnet on the side of my drill press and I can then just place the chuck key on it. As they are both metal it holds real well. I've found these small flat magnets very useful in many things. Enjoy.

I definitely need to get in this mindset. I’m building a new tiny art studio in my workshop. I have a small loft that is over my desk & laser cutter. I’m mounting a piece of aluminum extrusion on the loft to act as a track for an overhead camera (GoPro or other cam) & lighting. I can slide it back & forth to be over my desk or the laser. I can also point it at the wall easel. I just have to figure out how to build the rigs that’ll hold the camera & light. Thanks for the inspiration!

The last shot, the last few seconds where he shows storing the overhead shooting rig - just for a moment you see the little plywood plate attached to the leg to help it stay in position for storage. He just led us through the rationale for various other design and construction details on the pieces he shows, so that one can be presented both quickly and wordlessly and we know what the rationale is for that detail. A satisfying way to give your viewers a sense of connection to the material and realization that they have learned and understood. Inspiring.

Your videos are lovely. Down to earth and calming to watch. I’ve bodged together some gear just like this! It love that it looks homemade and does exactly what I need.

I have been waiting for this video...since the beginning of this series. I always wondered what was behind all of his shots. My dream has been fulfilled by the spirited man.

That's because Van did most of that when he shared that space with Casey. Van and Casey both worked for Tom Sachs
