Most of the older tables that have veneer tops...have beautifully grained hardwoods beneath that chipped and cracked veneer. I remove the damaged veneer slowly, with large paint scraper. Then I sand that hardwood top base smooth slowly by hand and with different grits and then final sand I use fine steel wool. Wipe off dust with slightly damp rag, then clear coat. You will be amazed how beautiful that grain shows. In older furniture that is made with veneer and wood.. pieces of hardwoods were glued together as base then veneer applied on top. So streaks of mahogany, oak, heart of pine, hickory, etc. are "hiding" beneath that scratched, chipped, curling veneer. The final "hidden" tabletop is much more beautiful than that veneer!

Love, love, love the porch so much!. I would scrap off the veneer of the table and add planks to the top then whitewash and or pickle the top. Then oil the bottom part of the table to bring out the color.

Hi Sarah, Well Done. So inviting! Does that friend who visits with you know how fortunate she is???? Yes to the little table, black door , lantern, wicker chairs ...and your husband complements you in the get it done department. Regarding the larger table....can you balance the door and put it on the other side ? Like a potting table ? A crock of shovels , clay pots ....a galvanized bucket of garden gloves, and other odds and ends. The wood pile stacked under the table. The table will look great at Christmas too. You are so talented.

What a cute cozy spot! The small table turned out so beautiful.... it has such great detail so bravo on taking the time and refinishing it! I was very interested in how you transformed the door ....maybe a separate video on that? You went through it quickly (I watched it twice) but I think it’s noteworthy enough to go through the details.... maybe when you transform the large table which you definitely should do! The only one thing was that I would have loved to see fresh flowers on the table and floor. A real fern and a small potted plant on the table, at least for summer.

I’d take the table top and make a hand laid tile top to make it impervious to the weather. The base I’d paint your farm house white in outdoor paint. Two unique outdoor chairs and vintage pots filled with herbs could complete the country look....just an idea...some solar twinkle lights in blue mason jars to complete the romantic look.

One additional thought. If you plan to cut the little third legs that point in on the table , could they become a little charming addition under the window and above the table if you choose to put the table on the opposite side of the door and your little cozy spot. The fresh flowers sign would also look nice under your window and above your ‘new’ old potting table. I guess you can tell I want to visit!!!! Haha

Sara, so funny I to have that same thing going on. I look around and think what in the world am I going to do with this "stuff" so you definetly gave me some ideas. My house is farmhouse/vintage and I hate giving things away just because it seems I re-buy it all over again or wished I hadn't gave it away. I have an old table that I was about to throw away like your big one because its beautiful. Right now, Its in my yard. I love your big table so I think we need to re-furbish those tables and lets keep them!

Love the simplicity of the porch redo. No major structure work or big money spent. Win! I would take the veneer off the old table and see if the boards are salvageable to just use as stained or painted. I wonder if there was an ornate metal brace between those curves pieces underneath at one time? Any markings left on the table anywhere?

That little table is darling, glad it didn't go into the burn pile! The big table...I agree the legs are cool. Do they separate off (from each piece) for architectural salvage, maybe? It looks like the top of one side is worse than the other. Could it be a Demi style attached to a wall, or hinged for a drop down surface somewhere? It looks a bit of a hot mess. LOL. I'll be curious to see what you can salvage.

@SheHoldsDearly
@SheHoldsDearly 4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest doing a full rinse since the product is made for decks (outdoors) and not indoor pieces. But you can towel dry it off immediately, and I'd do it on a sunny day when you can leave it outside for a few hours to dry completely before you take it back inside!

The dining table just needs to have the veneer scraped off, the edge glued and the rest of it oiled really well. Since the original purpose of veneer was to make a piece of furniture look more expensive (better grade of wood), once it reaches a certain condition, it doesn't matter anymore. I've taken veneer off tables and they look fine, even better sometimes.

I know this is an older comment, but I'm trying to circle back around to let people know that if you un-subscribe and re-subscribe, you should be able to get notifications. There was a glitch from an older video that we accidentally marked as "made for children", and so even though the setting is now fixed, some people still can't click the bell depending on when they subscribed! Sorry for the extra step, but hopefully that helps you get our notifications going forward!

Might be a good idea to keep the wood away from your house and door. Insects love wood and they're happy to take a short walk . . . Nice touches otherwise.
