Interesting comparisons and info. Thank you. Yup, sunrises and sunsets are two of life's special pleasures, stunning, and meditative. Another pleasure is an unobstructed night view from a city highrise apartment if your apartment is up on a higher floor.

I had a nice condo in View Talay 7 right on the beach, beautiful view. Problem is there was loud muzak around 5 nights a week and I mean groups that couldnt hit a single key all night till 2 in the morning. There is always the noise factor anywhere in SE Asia you have to be careful of. Wait until high season this year.

I value peace and quiet very highly and got very lucky finding a peaceful condo in Jomtien. It's a 3 minute walk to the beach or to catch the baht bus. And it is 10000baht/month with a one year lease. The negatives are It's a tiny studio , the gym is small and I'm on the first floor so no sea view. The rooftop pool is nice though, and they spray the outside for insects about once a month. I've yet to see any roaches or ants after being here going on 4 months.

My 50 sq meter condo in Phra Khanong, Bangkok near the BTS station was $750/month. An OK gym, fantastic pool, and a great location. More expensive than Pattaya and less expensive than America. I don’t need to be near a beach but Pattaya is good for a few days visit. I prefer to live in Bangkok.

As a Thai. I would like to ask foreigners here, if you guys would be willing to live in a smaller city if the transportation is just as good as Bangkok? Khonkaen is the likeliest city to get their own Tram, they even have a prototype (although it just got burned down in a fire accident). They were attempting to get their own inhouse transport production company going. If successful, it could make rail transportation cheaper to build in Thailand. Other cities only have plans, while Khonkaen is the only city in developing and testing phase. So, they're the likeliest to get their own first imo, but idk if there's anything for foreigners to do in KK. It's a University city, not a tourism hub.

@@TheBodiesInTheWaterBeckons A rail line needs to have a destination. In Bangkok some but not most of the stations become condo/mall hubs. Also one of the criticisms of the BTS/MRT is that it is expensive for working class Thais. Pattaya has the baht bus system on the beach road and foreigners love that. I’m not sure about success of public transit in a small Thai city. I wouldn’t be optimistic. I live in Sisaket province and couldn’t survive without a car.

What I am about to say is not criticism, but a reality check and an encouragement. Even as you list down reasons why expats choose to live in Pattaya, perhaps you should also consider listing down - to yourself perhaps - reasons why your video views have dropped back to their previous level when you were in Thailand before. I believe there was a boost in viewership when you did videos on Malaysia, because of the language thing. The Malaysian viewers can connect with you through English, much more than would the Thai viewers, who might not care that much to listen to talking head videos of a Westerner speaking in English. Your two Malaysian videos that "blew up" (with 110k and 140k views) provide good clues as to what the viewership that you once had want to see. (Answer: do flattering videos about Malaysia, many other Western KZfaqrs are doing just that.) On the other hand, your smaller Thai viewership may comprise a higher number of Westerners, who are of higher ad value to KZfaq, so that may offset the drop in viewership. However, there are more Westerners doing KZfaq in Thailand than in Malaysia, so you are competing with them, especially the very established ones, for the same number of eyeballs. That's the reality of being a travel KZfaqr: dealing with transitional viewership. Worse is if your livelihood depends on it.

Other options in S.E.Asia that are worth checking out and still very affordable. Chiang Mai in Thailand, Siem Reap and Kampot/Kep has a beach in Cambodia, Vung Tau and Dalat in Vietnam. Though only Vung Tau has a decent beach and is not far from Saigon. Though yes Pattaya is hard to beat, though Hua Hin/Cha Am are good beach options in Thailand

I loved the Philippines too, English is widely spoken friendly people, beautiful islands and some of the best tropical beaches in the world. Not as cheap as it used to be. Quality accommodation is more expensive, not a fan of the cuisine. Much less development. It’s all down to personal experience when there!

I think you are dead wrong about single women being rare in Pattaya. I see them around. Eastern European and Russian ones too. Many may prefer to go elsewhere but Pattaya has it all, is easier to get to from Bkk, and is considerably cheaper than Phuket and other more well known destinations, so I think it's still on their radar and some do go there. Safety is a non-issue everywhere in Thailand, so I don't think that is a factor at all for them.

If I was to live in the Pattaya area it would be jomtien beach area. I don’t want to be around w old expats getting drunk, acting foolish. I prefer to be away from it but yet close enough to visit when I want to instead of everyday.

I choose Pattaya because I can't deal with Bangkok anymore. A lot of corporatism and wokism (or some might say it's just a taste for money and nothing else) are really destroying downtown Bangkok and making them insufferable in the same way that major cities of the West became insufferable decades ago. Urban sprawl went from optional to mandatory and my nerves just fry when in Bangkok, and I used to be the ultimate urban dweller/mall rat growing up in Bangkok. The Emporium used to be my backyard. Pattaya may not be for outlaws anymore but it's still great for those of us who don't want to be "emasculated" (air quotes, figure of speech). It's less sophisticated than Bangkok (which is reflected in all goods and services) but it's also more alive and convivial. Parts of Bangkok used to be just like this; now we have to escape to Pattaya to get that experience.
