Thank you. I always feel like you are just talking to me. Very special. I have come to drawing at 65, but 72 now and love the challenge an the learning new things. Thank you for being the best guide possible for my journey.

I agree totally. Sometimes it seems the picture is just not happening. Going away and coming back with fresh eyes makes it much easier to see the faults, and go to fix them. I have erased a whole section before. That takes patience and courage, but the end result was far more satisfying.

Thank you so much for this video. I am happy to endorse every single word. I'm 64 years of age and for 62 of those years I couldn't draw. I couldn't draw because everyone told me I couldn't. When art teachers, friends and family saw my efforts their pitiful expressions relayed what they really thought. Quite often they consoled me by remarking that it didn't matter as I was quite good at other things. But, I've always wanted to be able to draw and during lockdown I just determined that I was going to try again and that I would succeed. Well, in the past two years I have come on leaps and bounds. I still have such a lot to learn but at least now when people look at my work they don't cringe. Some have even complimented me. The difference this time round is basically everything you said in this video. In particular, it was the self-belief and determination that helped me most. But patience, observation and practice have been invaluable. One other obstacle I had to overcome was not being afraid to fail. Instead I used my failures as learning tools to help avoid repeating my mistakes. Once again, thank you.

I really understand what you are talking... I start my art journey back in the mid 1970's studying with Maestro Azaustre in Puerto Rico, then in the 80's I start adventuring with acrylics, but my drawing skills was already improved a lot by the 80's. It was not until 2009 when I decide to move on into watercolor... which is my prefere medium today. But it have taken a lot of years to get where I am today, and still I can't consider myself more than an amateur. The secret is to be as a amateur all time, that way there will be aways space to improve; the moment I will consider myself as a completed artist, it will be the right time to meet my creator!!!! Have a good day Smoothie and viewers....

Blessed are the ones who are your art students!!. I consider myself very lucky to be atleast in a position to watch you create master pieces (with soothing and useful commentary). Because of my age and other restraints, unable to join your patreon. My bad luck. Wish you good health and a greater heights in artistic carrier.

Great sky, it drags me in 😊 I’m cultivating my bad habits, manly non study and reflect on what I really want to do and being impatient , rushing into the fun parts. Have to write “reflect!” In huge letters in front of my desk!

Wow! I am enjoying your work and learning proper techniques. BUT what really was pleased to hear you say was what I have old my middle school students for years and years... and that is that practice does NOT make perfect, practicing the correct (perfect) methods make perfect... both in my academic classes (Lit and Eng/writing as well in coaching). Thank you for wanting to help your listeners/followers to practice correctly to better their skills (should they desire).

Great video and good tipps! I try to draw the house and the landscape. It's quite tricky to get the proportions right 😁 Took me one hour to draw the contours of the low-rise building on the right side and one of the gables. I had to find out where to start, first, or to be precise where to place the lines and corners. But it's fun, I am learning a lot.

I get what you are saying about learning to draw in an afternoon. I teach guitar and I can teach people how to play it in an afternoon but it takes time to develop the skills.

Hello, I really like your work and your style, which is what I’m trying to represent. I try to draw the landscapes and houses of my Périgord countryside (24) and you are a great source of inspiration. I still have work to do. Thank you very much.

Ive been learning for 7 months and now I feel the journey has only just begun. I look back on my work from early 2019 and I see an improvement, thats part of what keeps me coming back but its not "what I have learned/drawn" but "what I still have ahead of me" that is the exciting part

Thank you, very thoughtful video along with a beautiful drawing demonstration. I found the 4th and 5th principles particularly useful. Yesterday I actually dropped a sketch thinking I can’t do this, it’s over painted and muddy and the more I paint the worse it gets. Now I’ look at it asking "how can I fix this?" And next time I’ll try something else instead of practicing my bad habits :-)

I've been taking photos during my drawings, they look completely different in a photo to how I see them with my eyes. Things pop out at me in a photo (usually bad things, ruins my drawings for me hehe). Lovely videos, amazing works and you should add asmr to your tags for some more views because your voice is very calm and soothing. You voice reminds me of a KZfaqr called Tom Burleigh who makes mudlarking videos.

Great video Smoothie. Could you tell me what artist tape you use for taping your paper to the board? I'm finding it difficult to find one that doesn't damage the paper.

One thing I have come to realize watching S-77 is I AM WAY TOO HEAVY HANDED. For some reason when S-77 puts pencil to paper he gets contrasts I can only get with more pressure. I think this goes to the type of paper and layering. NOT MY lack of ability at all...….
