Hi, I am an advanced manicurist. Free tip for everyone…. To make your polish last longer, start by cleaning your natural nail with isopropyl alcohol or fingernail polish remover, if your nails are not super clean, it can lead to chipping. Be sure that every coat you apply is thin. If you apply too thick of coats, they don’t dry, and could be a cause of chipping. In the nail business, we call it “prep and cure”

Know the feeling. Colors that were perfect when I was a “blond” don’t work with silver. However, I’ve always loved bright colors, so the muted neutrals, browns, rusty colors have made way for warm colors, and the blues, lavenders, that bring out my dark blue eyes. White and black do make me nervous as my skin tone is so pale. This channel has made such an impact on my planning my makeup to look better wearing those. So much good information and teaching.

I am 68, have thin lips, and my bottom lips is uneven due to surgery on it 40 years ago. Nikol, thank you for being so positive and helpful to us older women! I have been watching you for 6 months and collecting your makeup, along the way. I have never worn lipstick except my wedding and my sister’s-twice in almost 70 years. This video is so beautiful!! I went through a print phase a few years ago Beautiful pieces but I’ve returned to my uniform of plain pieces that are neutrals and go together seamlessly, I find accessories can add a sufficient pop of colour to elevate your outfit

Enjoy the compliments you will get! Invest in a good stylist for cuts and suggestions. I was so fortunate that when I got my first cut (8 inches!) after long hair, I looked in the mirror and for the first time in my life asked if she could shorten it even more! I was 66 at the time, hated short hair on myself! Had the same cut for 8 years now. She suggested I go gray and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments. She’s my one splurge on a very limited budget.

Wow, these are all so spot on! I loved this video. You are so right about having a tailor, especially. Pictures seriously let you know if your outfit is bad and I just discovered this when I went back to all my old photos on Instagram from 2020. I was like what was I thinking? I am 43, but I still love my trends... they are important to me for reasons I don't need to share. The funniest thing to me though with trends is that 90's and early 2000 styles are and have been the hottest trends for a while now and I love it. I just don't love the super low rise pants because they were so low many cracks were seen when sitting. LOL! No thanks on that!

Very helpful tips! I do my own nails...I love doing them myself...I feel like I am pampering myself. I've never had a manicure that I liked. One time the manicurist made ALL of my cuticles bleed! I have lots of colors and I really enjoying taking the time to choose and do my own nails.

The advice to “take a photo of yourself” in the clothes is SO true. For some reason, we see ourselves in a mirror very differently than in a photo. (Same thing applies to a room if you’re stumped at declutterring or re-arranging). But take the picture. It only takes a few seconds, and shows much more.

Black is always classic and elegant. I love traditional and vintage clothes and have nice oieces. I just need to put effort into clothing choices in the fall/winter instead of defaulting to leggings and hiking boots - but I do walk my dog a lot. My oldest daughter has naturally strong nails (dna from her grandmother, my mom) that grow easily. She treats herself to gel manicures because they don’t chip and last 2 weeks. My youngest daughter has weak nails like mine and does dip. I can’t do either as causes damage, plus I play guitar so need to maintain short nails. Fortunately have nice nail beds, so I DIY. I don’t get quite the same professional look, but close enough. I do waste money on disappointing color choices, though. You ever get that bottle home and the color isn’t what you thought?

Yes, although Shellac contains some chemicals that can be toxic to some people, e.g. acrylates. Same with false eyelashes or lash extensions.

I have been watching, and enjoying Nikol's videos for a while now, and they have definitely given me some food for thought...I have a closet full of clothes that I never wear, partly because I lost some 40 lb a few years ago, and while I have managed to maintain it, there have been some times that I've gained a little bit back and resorted to the larger pieces for a while until I get back to the status quo. I'd also like to lose another 10 or 15, but not so desperately that I relish the idea of what it takes to get there. I will never be Nikol's size, and, from previous experience, I also know I look best at around a size 10 (I generally wear a 12, or sometimes 14 now, and I'm 64, so those few extra pounds really do plump up the wrinkles LOL). My natural style tends toward the Bohemian, so there is little in Nikol's wardrobe which I feel matches my personality, as much as I do appreciate the way she carries them. As I said, I have been watching her for a while, and maybe there are things I have missed, but I wonder whether she ever has guests with different builds and different styles who can offer tips on how to achieve an elegant look without having the classic build to go with it, or how to proceed if you simply don't look good in black, white, or beige.

Great tips Nikol! I like to use Dashing Diva nail strips. They are adhesive and glossy and last about 2 weeks on me. You stick them on and clip and file off the excess strip. I only use the solid colors, I’m going to see if they have a dupe for your gorgeous orange Hermes color! Oh you only peel them off when you want to change them so no harsh removal process.

When I was 15/16 I was shopping for a prom dress and the best clothing assistant explained how to pick the right clothes for my body type. She also color draped me which was awesome because since then I only choose colors that bring out my assets.

Nikol, you look like a DYT Type 4 with maybe a secondary type 3? I’m a type 4. I love my DYT colors! I have since branched out into the entire Bright Clear Winter palette. I never thought I could wear yellow until I got typed (and in fact, I had an almost entirely black wardrobe - which still works for me), but now I have some really lovely yellow pieces in the right shade, and loads of vibrant green and sizzling pink. I ditched my drab, neutral, tasteful eye palettes and went for bolds, and now I look more awake and lively when I do my makeup. Your advice here is timeless as it can be so easily tweaked for personal style and colors. You’re so smart and savvy.

Love your style! I’m a classic person too! I buy a few trends if I like them and they work for my body type. But doing nails. I lack in that area. I only do my toenails. I work out in the yard all the time and can’t seem to keep a manicure of any kind. But I do try on special occasions! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

I only do my toenails as well because I am always doing something to chip my fingernails. I keep my fingernails trimmed and occasionally I'll use a clear topcoat

As a DIYer for nails, have you looked at the KZfaq videos from The Salon Life? All about natural manicures, polish, health of nails, curing nail problems, etc. Also, science backs the analyses of problem nails and solutions. Great channel.
