Hi Tia! I am down 90 pounds from eating plant based, but when I first went vegan I was a junk food vegan and I lost a lil weight but when I went whole food plant based no oil it came off so fast at first!!! It has slowed down again, but I will be doing more 50/50 soon to speed it up. I wish I knew how much I would love being a plant based vegan long ago then I would have never been 388 pounds! 🤣Aww your daughter asking for cookies sounds like my daughter! I love this video! It is so special to share this with everyone so they can make the changes too!😀❤️🌻

Your distinction between being vegan and going on a whole food plant-based diet is SO important to distinguish and what really tripped me up in the beginning. We were totally junk-food vegans for about 9 months. I thought we were doing great things (which in some ways we were) but I didn't really feel all the health benefits that I read about and heard other vegans talk about until I started following a whole food plant-based diet. Wonderful channels like yours are so vital and I wish I had known about this life style years ago so thank you for putting this out there for others! As always, I love your videos and approach to life and this lifestyle and I wish we lived closer so we could be real friends, lol!

I like that you specify going to a plant-based doctor if you’re having excessive issues. It really bothers me when someone has issues with this diet for whatever reason and they go to their doctor and their doctor tells them they “need” to start eating animal based foods again for their health. I’d rather work with someone that can troubleshoot any problems I might encounter. Chances are you only need to make small changes to get yourself back to feeling your best.

Tia, this was an awesome video. When I first started looking at this lifestyle it was so confusing. It took me a Hugh amount of time to sift through all the approaches. Vegan before 6, WFPB but includes animal, vegan but junky, vegan but, please greese relief ( coconut cream, an avocado per day, nuts by the half cup portion, nut butter on everything, Tahiti too and topped with seeds plus oil. OMGosh) I was post op for breast cancer and didn't want it back. It took me a while to find the WFPB vegan way of eating and then to find practioners that kept it simple. Simple is so important when making the change. Thanks I know this will help others and it's always good to hear the truth again and again. B

Thank you Tia for another great video! ❤️ Excellent tips. We have to be open to new information for keeping on track. Gas is a normal part of digestion no matter what we eat. After transitioning from a diet with less fiber to one with more fiber we experience more bloating but it will pass. Many people wonder what to replace the meat with. With plants, of course. But if you eat a lot of meat before, some vegan meat can be a good compromise as a substitute but not for too long. As you pointed out, the simplicity and prepping are the keys to success. I was deficient in vitamin B12 even when I was eating meat because I was not absorbing it well so it is essential to talk to your doctor. Some deficiencies give symptoms which are not related to swiching to a wfpbno but we can easily attribute it to this way of eating. Yes, certainly it is an exciting journey. 😊

This is great info thank you for the comment. It’s especially helpful about the b12. So many people are deficient who eat meat and they have no idea.

This is so great to hear. I think that happens to a lot of people. It’s hard to not connect with the animals and feel for them after feeling so amazing living this way. I find I connect with so much more and I didn’t expect that part.
@michaelajoseph68563 жыл бұрын
I’ve been vegan for many years but unfortunately I eat a lot of coconut oil, olive oil, cakes, vegan sausages and meat, nut cheeses, french fries, etc. After 60 I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insuline resistence, and gradually put on a lot of weight. Not until I stumbled upon whole food plant based no oil concepts that I was able to understand that being vegan, though great for the animals was not so great for my health. I’m still a vegan but I started to eat only whole, natural and unprocessed foods and all my health issues disappeared in some months. I had also to pay attention to supplements. I found out that my Vitamin D levels were very low. It was a consequance of living in Scandinavia and not taking the right supplements. With this way of eating I become also aware of my needs. I became a healthy vegan. What it’s optimal for us, it’s also good for the animals and for our planet. That’s why the information and inspiration from your channel can help a lot of people not only to find their reason for eating this way but also to understand how to think about food, how to cook and eat the meals which will restore one’s health. Education helps us to find our way much sooner. For me it took a long time but it doesn’t need to be that way. Thank you Tia and keep up the good work. ❤️

I feel the need to point out that it is better to eat before going to a restaurant, not to bring your food into a restaurant. This is because restaurants have strict health codes that they need to follow and they can get in serious trouble if people are eating outside food in their restaurant and they get reported.
@HealthyVeganMama3 жыл бұрын
That may be good for you, but everyone needs to do what’s best for them. You do you, I’ll do me 😀

The way that I first went vegetarian was to give up red meat for 6 months and then poultry the next 6 month. By the end of that year, I only had fish/seafood and dairy products. So for the next 6 months, I stopped eating fish/seafood. I never ate much of that anyway so it was not hard to give up. So after 18 months I was down to just dairy products. I was 40 years old when I made the decision to become vegetarian. Ate age 55, I became vegan. It really wasn't heard because during my journey I was constantly picking up recipes and ideas for meals, and rethinking how to eat. I've never felt deprived. Now, at age 60, I am vegan, 50% raw vegan. I live in a cold climate so I eat cooked food mainly in winter. I feel so much better eating vegan and I feel better when I look at animals because I see them as fellow creatures enjoying the world with me rather than as food. I also made the transition because I spent 20+ years as a caregiver to my family who passed from high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, etc., and were medicated for years prior to passing. They all ate the Standard American Diet and I did too. But I'm glad I changed.
@rozchristopherson6483 жыл бұрын
@@Lauren-vd4qe The only dairy I ate with any frequency was cheese but the main purpose of going vegetarian is to stop eating meat/animal flesh. Vegetarian diets still permit dairy since dairy does not involve killing animals. So with either veganism or vegetarianism, the focus is not just on what is harmful to humans but also what is harmful to animals.

Nice video Tia! I just want to ad that gas and bloating can also be IBS and sensitivity to FODMAPs. Yes, it is normal for your gut to react when transition to a new diet with more fiber. But bad smelling farts are not a sign of a perfectly good diet and is nothing that you need to live with for the rest of your life. After 4 years of being vegan I developed a lot of stomach pain and IBS symptoms even though I was eating just fine a healthy diet and had been for years. My problem needed professional help to handle. Your symptoms is your body responds to something, don’t just ignore it! If the problems with an upset stomach don’t go away I would highly recommend to contact a certified or registered dietitian.
@HealthyVeganMama3 жыл бұрын
Yes there could definitely be an underlining issues. That’s why I made sure to mention talk with a plant based doctor if there is pain that doesn’t go away. Great advice, thanks

I have a legume intolerance. Been WFPB for 9yrs, and gas seemed to be getting worse over time (66yr old). The weird thing is I’ve never felt bloated, or had any pain...just gas. I’m great now replacing the legumes with more starch and grains. FWIW, I have a live in dietician who has her masters, and I’m a retired CVICU nurse. I’ve tried everything under the sun. I might seek out a GI doc and/or GI mapping. So what is FODMAPs? Never heard of that one. I haven’t totally given up on legumes. Just taking a break.

What I do is make my meal their side dish. For instance, I'll make myself potatoes and broccoli which will be my husband and children's side dish to say chicken or whatever. And I always add lots of good stuff to my dish -- "cheese" sauce, etc.

So, for my family, I had a conversation with my hubby, when we are at family's, friend's or in a restaurant, they eat what they want. And I mean what they want, lobster, steak, milkshake, whatever. But at home, momma is the one that gardens, meal plans, shops, stores and prepares all meals we eat in this house. So my hubs is all on board (his stipulation was food tastes good and we don't eat the same thing over and over and over)

I love your videos and bought your book. I am struggling with changing our food because hubby and boy’s are not on board. I’ll keep working on them, but, in the meantime where did you get your plates and bowls in the background? 😀

That’s a great attitude to have. Just be the light and hopefully they will follow along. Honestly I don’t remember. Maybe Crate and Barrel 🤔 I got them so long ago.

I think also add enzyme combination in capsule form with your meal is a good idea

Gas what’s that😂 my poor husband has to deal with my daily blow outs. He gets gas too but I think I beat him🤦🏽♀️ At any rate, We love the wonderful plant based meals but stick to potatoes and greens when we aren’t sure what to make . I’ve started my own food diary to track our favorite meals, this makes it easier to stick to this way of eating. Thank you for all the great tips 👍🏼

Hahaha you are awesome. I find I always have potatoes and greens too when I don’t know what I want to make either.

Thank you so much. I didn’t change anything except buy a Revlon blow dryer brush! So it gives me a blow out look every time and it’s so easy and quick. It’s totally transformed my hair straight...except on high humidity days. The curls still try to come out then 😂

I’m interested in finding out about what it’s like to transition to a vegan lifestyle and learn more about the book, The Starch Solution. There are a few channels here about vegan lifestyle and this book so I’ve subscribed to them and also to the channel of the book’s author. I’ll be looking at all of your previous videos and the videos of the other people that I’ve subscribed to about this book and vegan lifestyle. My primary reason for learning about vegan lifestyle and this book is to lose weight and be healthier. I’ll be watching your videos and other peoples videos about the book and the vegan lifestyle from now on. I’ll enjoy your videos and look forward to each new video that you do.

I have become plant based for my health, for the environment and my hatred of animal cruelty in industrialized farming. It has been a gradual change but was too easy to fall into easy lazy choices. Since hearing about the Starch Solution I have done better and have got my husband on board. My aches snd pains are disappearing. Hoping for some weight loss too😜

Funny I was on Pinterest, later I was at Walmart and was going to pick up some poblanos for a recipe I seen, I put them down and said this is crazy that I would get all these ingredients to make this so I didn't. I put the peppers back, keeping it simple makes this way of eating easy.
@HealthyVeganMama3 жыл бұрын
Yes it really does. Simple is key!

I too keep starting and stopping. I am more a “for health reasons” person than for the animals person. I love animals but to be honest I never really thought that much about it until watching “Forks over Knives”. No judgement please, old habits die hard. I was eating too much Vegan junk and would cheat when hungry and no vegan options were available. I am “starting over” this week and need to get prepared mentally to keep it going.
@HealthyVeganMama3 жыл бұрын
No judgement here. You keep doing you and sounds like you are on the right path.
@cheezheadz39283 жыл бұрын
To prepare mentally for the vegan part, ponder the question, "If you love animals how can you eat them?" Youve got this!

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience:). The meal you made for yourself with the bread?...well for my stomach it is a receipy for gas:). Fruits after meal is the worse. Just wanted to add that in..hahaha

Great video! Thanks for all the information you share - really appreciate it all. I’m transitioning over for health reasons only - you mention something that I did not give al of thought before - is the general belief of the vegan community that eating animals is “evil” or some how wrong? I hope when I mention to people that we are transitioning that they don’t think I’m being judgmental lol 😂

We never did eat out often. We're too cheap and I like good food. Not many cheap restaurants have good food.🤣😂 But we do eat out on occasion. And when we do, my family eats whatever they want. I usually eat off the sides. I like the black beans and cilantro lime rice at chili's. Pretty yummooo

I went Vegan, plant base, Whole Food Last year and I noticed I wasn’t losing weight until I started counting my calories!! I don’t understand how people can just lose weight without calorie counting! I wasn’t eating junk, it was pretty healthy!!
@HealthyVeganMama3 жыл бұрын
If you eat whole plant foods centered around starch and lower in fat (not excluding fat) it’s very possible. They probably eat more non starchy veggies or they exercise a lot or eat tons of potatoes. And by they I mean me 😂 there’s many ways to do it without counting .
@chrissybackes19423 жыл бұрын
@@HealthyVeganMama Yes, the Starch Solution I was eating tons of potatoes, I’m a pretty picky eater so it’s very hard to have a wide variety when you don’t like much!!! But yeah, potatoes, rice, corn was very big part of my diet so I had to count those calories! Bummer
