Very excited and not worried for basic. I leave soon and the only thing I’m nervous about is developing overuse injuries during running. I’ve been running for about a year now and just a few weeks ago I got my first overuse injury. I’m recovered for the most part from it but man, I would hate to have that happen during osut.

Don't make your friends *too* fast. 😁 I had a buddy from MEPS, we shipped to basic together, but then I got held over an extra day at reception for my background check & we wound up in different battalions. We did get to say "hey" to each other one time when our units passed going opposite directions on a road march. The church advice is on point. I was pretty firmly anti-religious when I went through basic, and I can confirm that every single Sunday those of us who stayed behind got to buff the floors in the bay. Two other things: 1) Make sure they don't screw anything up in reception!! From paperwork to uniform issue, they're trying to plow through hundreds of recruits in a day and they *will* make mistakes, and they *will not* want to listen to you when you point them out. Fixing incorrect paperwork can be an ordeal, and as far as equipment goes if I hadn't stood up for myself I would've been sent to my platoon with boots two sizes too small. 2) Don't bother getting a military-style haircut before you ship to basic. Even if you show up with a shaved head you're still going to have to pay for a haircut (and tip the barber)!

Currently studying for the Asvab, need a 101 ST score, memorizing the Soldier's Creed and Army Song. Working on my conditioning to get a 15:54 on a 2 mile run. Thankful for focusing on pull ups, push ups, and sit ups in my early 20's (I'm 26). Never thought I'd join the Army but i'm really considering it for the National Guard (68X). I got a Bachelor's in Psychology and want to get that exposure to working hands on and help solider's mental health! NG was the best option for me since I still want to continue to obtain my Master's in Psychology.

Idk if u did a video of this but 2 questions what should you bring to basic training and what you shouldn't bring cuz i dont want to dring the wrong thing
@Harv72b3 жыл бұрын
Short answer: Bring as little as possible. Long answer: You'll receive your full Army issue on your first or second full day at reception, and that will cover everything you'll need to wear other than running shoes and shower shoes (flip flops). For running shoes they'll draw a pay advance for you to buy some right there in the reception area, or you can try bringing your own (but if they don't meet Army standards in any way, you're still stuck buying a new pair). For shower shoes, just bring any plain, cheap, non-logo'd flip flops. As far as what not to bring, if you don't need it to live and/or to smell acceptable, you probably shouldn't bring it (exceptions: cell phone & pen/paper to write home with...or I don't know, do they allow emails in basic now?). One of the very first things you'll do when you get to the reception area at your basic training post is go through a detailed session where they'll break down all common prohibited items & allow you to turn them in with no repercussions. If you find yourself with an item they don't cover, you will be able to ask about it.

They give u the rank insignia at basic?
@Harv72b3 жыл бұрын
As a private (e1) there is no insignia, so for most trainees it won't be an issue. Some people will go into basic at higher ranks (E2-E4) depending on education level, time in ROTC, or other programs. At the end of basic training, yes--your drill sergeants have the ability to recommend one soldier per platoon for promotion (not to exceed E4). At any rate, yes--any time you receive a new rank (above E1) you'll be issued your insignia, including basic training.

Sir, I have a complicated question here. My first guaranteed contract was 11X with airborne RASP. I had braces ( which they knew about ) at the time of temp assignment, went to meps and now they want me to be a 14G. I honestly do not want anything other then the chance to be the tip of the spear which is what I wanted to get in the army in the first place. What do you suggest I do to get back my guaranteed contract? Any information is greatly appreciated!
@Harv72b3 жыл бұрын
If you really, _really_ want infantry then just tell them that you're not interested in any other MOS. Until you actually sign your enlistment papers & take the oath, you're under no obligation to do anything. That said, I also went in to my recruiter's office dead set on going infantry way back when, and when they came up with a reason I couldn't (in my case they suddenly didn't have any open slots outside the 30-day window needed for my background check) I "settled" for 98C (Intel Analyst), which I wound up absolutely loving (and which prepared me for a much more lucrative post-military career than the infantry would've).
@lucasnutting82663 жыл бұрын
Don’t go infantry we are not in an active war so you are sucking for no reason. Everyone that I went to osut with probably 10 of them did not regret their decision and that’s out of 244 people
