A very good reminder how to respect your children as little people and how to communicate with each other clearly. Thank you.

Summary: 1) Don't say "Calm down", instead say "I can see you're upset" 2) Avoid praise "You're so clever", instead say "How did you feel when ... " then you can praise afterwards 3) Avoid "You're just like your mother/father" avoid negative downward comparison, instead say "Wow, this is really challenging for you" 4) Avoid "Because I said so", instead "There is a reason I said ..." 5) Avoid "I'm was bad at X too", instead "It's amazing what we can do when we try" 6) Avoid "What a stupid thing to do" instead say nothing Watch the video for the nuances.

@@whereareyou6296 no, evidence shows that adults who were beaten when they were young are more unlikely to be unopen and can affect their relationships

Instead of talking over him it would have been nice for the hosts to actually give him the space to respond to the last topic. Seemed like they were uncomfortable with the strategy and chose to belittle it and dismiss it. If what you've tried in the past doesn't work it might be time to properly consider new approaches rather than shutting them down...

I'm over here in America. He talks on Parental Guidance about how Australia needs reform in thinking, but I'm over here trying to learn and be a good parent. Thank you. :)

As a childless spinster aunt, my first thoughts about what never to say to my nieces and nephew are, "No" "Don't" & "Can't" Hey it's not my task to discipline 😜

I explain so much, that whenever I say: - because, and are about to make a valid statement for WHY I asked, they just go do it, that's faster than listening to my "rant" Most of the time, if they think about it, it makes sense, and they will do it. (worked in a kindergarten for a while)
