We recently celebrated our 6 month anniversary of moving from Toronto Canada to Puerto Vallarta Mexico and wanted to share 6 things we've learnt since we moved here. We relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. We sold everything, packed five suitcases and boarded the plane to Mexico City. My wife is a Mexican citizen and I'm from Reno, Nevada. The cost of living, culture, food, and the people were all contributing factors in our move. We have a beautiful, almost 4000 sq ft, 3brm/3ba home, in a nice neighborhood, for 8000 pesos ($400 USD) per month. I've never had second thoughts about our move. Our utility bills are negligible as well. We've never been approached or victimized by ANY crime in Mexico, nor have I been subjected to "Gringo prices." It probably helps that we don't live in an expat enclave, or by any beaches. There's a lot more to living in Mexico than laying in the sand! Best move I've ever made. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

The beach and scenery is beautiful there - a must visit and a great walk from zone along the beach. Lol thanks I had to show off the haircut of course but don’t get used to it 😂

I like your attitude 👍. I traveled internationally and nationally for my career and am happy where I live, I love my garden and we have a few four legged family members that add a challenge to long term travel . But I am a voracious arm chair traveler so YT has been my media outlet of choice . And other than Tijuana and some Surfing and camping trips in Baja I haven’t traveled to Mexico . Now retired and debating our next vacation trip . East coast vs west coast of Mexico 🤔lol . You guys have a great vibe and yes, your son is a force to be proud of 👍 well done !

Thanks for watching 😊 we’ll be putting together some rainy day videos. We love going to plaza caracol so we’ll be spending more time there (arcade, trampoline park, playground, bowling, movie theatre) great mall for kids and has a very local vibe to it.

I've watched your video several times; you have two awesome boys! How much in advance did you begin your paperwork? Are either of you of Mexican descent and if so how much easier was it for either of you to gain citizenship?

No shortages as far as we know although we don’t follow the news closely. Our tienda downstairs is fully stocked. I’ll ask tomorrow and report back in she’s heard anything different.

6:04 Is their electricity charged in a tiered system? is there anyway to get back on to a lower cost per kwh if the previous tenant was in a higher tier? Thanks for the tips!

It is a tiered system. If I’m not mistaken it takes 12 months.

Hot… very hot 🥵 lol this is our first July here and it’s already pretty hot. It’s starting to rain a little bit more which cools things in the moment but then gets very humid. Regardless you’ll have a great time 😉 don’t pack long sleeves or sweaters - you won’t need’em … thanks for watching

The visa process is honestly not that complicated. Best ressource is soniadiazmexico.com/temporary-residency/ We recommend also joining Facebook groups (Expats in Mexico, Moving to Mexico, On the road in Mexico) and use the search tool. A lot of valuable information there.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the storm is suppose to hit. We’ve gotten rain on and off for the last week - most late night or early morning. It’s definitely been nice.

And now (July) it's the worst, so if this is the worst, I'm very curious about how it is after November. Busy looking for longterm rentals now! BTW what are the requirements? (Temp. residency?)
