Getting a full set of dental implants is usually a big decision, and often the marketing around the subject is all positive.
This is a fantastic treatment for most people who take it up, however, in the years that we have been doing it, there have been surprises that we didn't initially expect.
This video shows some of the key things that our patients were not expecting but experienced when having All on 4 or a full set of dental implants.

I confirm that what the doc said (from the point of view of a patient) is what you gonna expect, maybe a little more I would say, depending of your situation before the implants. I agree on the point: never think to do this just for minor cosmetic reasons if your teeth are healthy, you gonna end with a perfect Hollywood smile, they feels different (you gonna get sued of it pretty quickly so it's not a major problem), but there's also the psychological aspect behind it, you literally removed a part of your body and you will start questioning if it has been worth it, this can cause depression and there's no point of return. When you shouldn't think twice and do it? When your teeth are affecting your quality of life and there's no solution to fix them otherwise. If you're accepting compromises of not eating certain foods, if you're worried to smile, if you feel everyday pain, you may get used of it, but this is going to lower your life enjoyment beyond what you even realize, and you'll figure it out only after the surgery, asking yourself why you didn't it before! You'll be literally a new person, with yourself and with social relations. The benefits goes beyond what you can imagine. For those who asks if you feel any pain: during the surgery it's zero (you even feel relaxed and excited because of the expectations), you could have some pain after, but it really depends by the person and the situation, it's nothing to worry about, especially if you come from a situation where you had some teeth pain almost every day. It normally goes out after two weeks anyway and with few painkiller you'll feel nothing. How those they feels? You gonna lose the "individual" tooth feel, it means if you try to bite something with a single tooth, you can still feel where it's happening but most of the pressure is distributed across the whole arch. Initially it's strange, but you gonna get used of it pretty fast and you'll forget it. For this reason, eating food during the first weeks seems different, but again it'll be natural again pretty fast. How do they look to others? It depends of which kind of implant you'll end with (type and material), but with modern implants none rather than you and you'll dentist will know about it, they looks perfectly natural and (most of the times) better than real teeth, you shouldn't be worried about anything, even when including gum, don't overthinking about it, it's not an issue (especially if had bad teeth before!). If you "need" it and you're waiting because you're worried (well.. if we don't consider that is pretty expensive), don't be worried, the cons are minimal, the pros will exceed those by a factor of ten. I hope my experience will help some of you.

I appreciate all your videos Dr. I spent many months researching. I was at the point where I only had 8 teeth remaining on the upper. and one of the fronts was a root canal and it broke in half. So it was very embarassing. Plus the other remaining teeth all had cavities and were beyond saving. I was in constant pain. All of your insight is spot on. I don't recommend people to run and get this if you have healthy teeth. Like the Dr has said, these will NEVER feel like your natural teeth. I am 110% satisfied already (only been a few days post op). But if I could go back in time and brush 6 times a day I would. I spent 9 hours in the dentist chair. My back was killing me. But in the end. Its worth it.

Great eplanations. With all that can go wrong, it makes me a little more anxious about ever having it done for the $$ involved. My own bite is off because of the bad dentistry I've had by multiple different docs over the course of years. I don't know whether new teeth should be made according to the height of how my teeth are now or how they should be to have a more natural bite Also.... what do you think??? I am very allergic to metals. Have you ever had a patient reject the implant because of that??

I had my all on 4 last Tuesday. I had 15 teeth removed. I never anticipated the pain l would be in. I have taken so many pain meds around the clock, still do. Not one pain med including a very strong one takes the pain away. I iced and iced and iced. I am very happy with my temps, not too bulky. Just so painful.

@@tofurakhanom2644 Despite paying for flights I've decided not to go in the end. Too many horror stories. Found a UK dentist who said it would be madness to have all bottom teeth removed when there's a good few years left in them. He offered to do a 1-6:6-1 bridge which he said should also last a good few years. Cost was comparable and I get to keep half of my normal teeth.

😱😱😱 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Thank you so much for your video! I am sitting here at day 8 realizing AND freaking out that my temporary upper, denture (front teeth) is about a CM off to one side as well as thick and the lower one is dipping slightly to one side with the teeth! I’m so happy to hear this is normal. I was thinking “oh no, do I have a novice technician doing my teeth?” To have you explain all these things is so beneficial to me!! Are top and bottom molars to line up like with real teeth? My temporary teeth on top are NOT lining up with bottom molars. My bottom ones are too short and hitting middle of upper molars on both sides. I am curious what is correct? I go back in two days.

Would you be able to post videos regarding the maintenance of these implants? Like what the chances that some food goes under them and bacteria grows there. Or how long do they last? For worst case/best case and average? What are the long term side effects? If anything happen to them and you have, is it possible to have a new set of implants let's say after 20 years or so?!

I have full arch upper and partial bridges in lower jaw. This was a question I also had. You will need to floss UNDER the bridges. I use OralB Superfloss which has a waxed end so you can poke it under the bridge and your gum then floss where the implant is attached to the bridge and the underside of the bridge. You should also be advised to see a hygienist a couple of times a year which will cost you of course. The bridges are attached with screws to the implants so the dentist can just unscrew the bridge from the implants. Cant see any reason why the bridge could not be replaced provided the implants is still fine. Hope this helps. This work is not a quick fix but well worth the effort.

Question next week I will be having 3 upper molars removed and at some point after that will be looking to get a bridged implant to replace them, the likelihood is the other side will need doing in the future also. If I have a bridge done to replace 3 molars could the implants be used as part of the all on 4? Or will I have to have them removed and replaced? If I was using yourself for both treatments if I decided in the future to just get the lot replaced

When you say it is different experience and feeling with prostethic teeths, it means even as function is different? I understand the feeling is not as natural teeth, but how about mastication? When we eat, how they hold? Can you bite an apple without stressing them for example? Or even eating would be different?

Mexic is closer than Turkey and still great prices! Think of travel costs and extra visits that are necessary for adjustments as gums heal and recede. Final dentures are installed months later, first few months those are temporary dentures attached to implants ( until gums are completely healed). P.S: I’m a dental assistant, Newport Beach /California. At my workplace, prices are 50-60K for full mouth restoration.

Thank you for your explanations regardless implants. I’m sure that you are aware of how terrifying it is to truly just any dentists. In Los Angeles, California, dental offices will call and call and call like used car salesmen So I remain after Have had all of my upper teeth removed by a dental study at USC School of dentistry I refused having all of my teeth removed on the same day and shoving temporary dentures onto my bleeding mouth. So here I sit with no upper teeth and terrified of choosing just any dentist. I am an actress who is obviously not working at all right now because of my explanation above. So I am wondering if you might be able to recommend a dentist like you here ? I really hope so as I’m going broke rapidly.
