1.- Use Less Sub 2.- Use Less Reverb 3.- Master using Parallel Compression 4.- Use EQ to find resonant frequencies and sustract them 5.- Use master volumen automation to make your drop hits with more impact 6.- Control your snare, make it loud as your lead vocal.

Heres an idea. How about a video on getting the most out of stock plugins. A lot of tutorials give examples using high end plugins and or plugin suites which a lot of beginning and even more intermediate producers may not have.
@LarsJohanssonQigong
@LarsJohanssonQigong 7 жыл бұрын
or stress the fact that you can use the same concepts with the stock plugins, but you get a different tone with the high end stuff.
@mitch150
@mitch150 6 жыл бұрын
What Lars said, all the stock plugins will have the same controls as the fancy plugins. And if you're paying attention to what they are doing you can apply the same technique with stock plugins. Or any special plugin you might have. :P

great video. I like how you focused on fundamental issues/mistakes which can often be a simple fix...mistakes which we all make and it's easy to forget and not persue the obvious fixes of a mix because I believe if you get the basics right (although nothing really seems basic), you can sound like a world class producer/mixer. Too much emphasis is on the use of this or that plugin these days. Thanks for keeping it real. Subscribed :)

Hey Reid. Just binge watching your mastering vids. Ive reached the end of my mix but unfortunately haven't gain staged properly, I'm just about to clip without anything on the master (@-.05), is it recommended to pop a utility on the master to bring it back by 3 or 4 db so I can have headroom to use limiter thereafter

Thanks so much these tutorials and tips are the best on KZfaq for me. Can you please discuss how to meet industry standards? Having never worked with a label or anything I have no clue what their mixdown/mastering standards are. Such as frequency cuts, master volume, format/bit rate, and any other secret tips and specifications you know of.

I regularly mix my loudest noises to be -10.5 for the purpose of dynamic headroom and what I do, is I'll compress my kick, set it to -10db on the meter. compress my snare stack (threshold of -6 to catch all the important noise) TWICE and brick wall that baby. Throw those two + cymbal drum rack into a group and limit everything so that the group peaks at -10.5db. In the end, when I throw my sub (which can only peak at -16 with this method) in, it only gets to about -9db on the master. My synths will bring the overall sound up to about -7db and the only hit -12.5 on the postfader. They stay present due to 2 stage compression (compressing in parallel multiple times in a row) because the perceivable dynamic range is brought to the forefront. how I'm supposed to get NSD loud in Ableton is a god damn mystery to me since the stock limiter causes ducking but hell, if I found out, I'll tell everyone.

I find myself enjoying making harsh electric dance music mostly dubstep and such and being an amateur producer im often confused by the levels of things. I wonder if you could do an in depth explanation of making dubstep, finding the right sounds and balancing the levels in regards to importance. P.S. I really enjoy your videos they are very informative!

Reverb is dangerous, can wash out a mix really easily! Unless you're going for a certain effect/vibe, just make sure you control it and put it in it's own space and it works with the idea/track.
