Concise and brilliant little series (600, 800, 1000…) Great idea to analyze a lot of games in those levels. Blunders and tactics. I find I blunder way more in blitz and especially bullet vs 10 min rapids or longer games.

I got to 1067 on dropped to 950. I play 4 games per day and have been on a losing streak and berily winning since the 19th and yh I think you're right. I have alr been doing puzzles every single day before tho so.

two weeks ago I watched your video 'tips to get past 800' (or something like that) and I blasted from 780 rating to now lingering between a 920 - 950 rating. Just simply finish developing and castling early helped me hugely to burst trough 800, to now get stuck at 930. Time for this video Thanks for the videos, really fun and helpfull.

The change that has worked best for me is to play slower. Following your example I do a pre-takeoff check before moving. That has cut down on my blunders considerably! And if my opponent appears to blunder, before snatching the free piece I take extra care to look for the trap. Thank you.

I've played games where I thought I had smothered mate but I just blundered queen forgetting the king can take it hahaha I've done a lot of smothered mates but it always makes me laugh when I do something dumb like just throwing my queen in without doing the Knight jump stopping the king capturing the queen lol

(betcha never heard that one before.lol.) i really like your teaching style. it certainly resonates effectively with me. thank you. some of the other chess streamers are arguably more entertaining?! but i attribute my recent leap in rating to you!! and your channel. and maybe david ramirez as well. i love gothamchess; but its all bada bing bada boom and you get all jazzed up and the other guy doesnt play that move. you and ramirez and maybe ben finegold are more about improving me fundamentally by improving my understanding of what im doing and why. which seems to be a key element in improving. there are a lot of kids loaded up with traps and gambits; which if you survive and continue to apply the fundamental strategy sees them start taking maximum time to move; go on vacation; anything to avoid facing reality. whilst you fall for their tricks they are all over you. its a highly exploitable situation. its must be one of the perks of being old.lol. god knows they are few and far between. thanks son. you are teaching an old dog new tricks. and he understands why he is doing them.woof! for the dogbiscuits.duh!

I'm hovering around 1100 right now. I don't lose to a 1000's but I can't get passed this point and yes, This is a very accurate portrayal of my games.

I'm 1032 and in puzzles on lichess I'm 1778, so I dunno why I'm not improving, I noticed that I'm starting to make less blunders but I keep making more mistakes, but I have taken a lot of lessons on endgames so my mistakes are in the middle game, but blundering is till an issue

hm. i keep grinding puzzles and am getting quite good at them. my rating has been dropping for the last 3 weeks though. Puzzles dont seem to improve my game at all.

Very good usable advice. Right on target. 5/6 of games lost from either blunder or tactical mistake!. I get better results with students doing puzzles from printed paper books - why? because they actually see how much (or little) they did! Some students would do better to avoid super sharp openings like the Fageletto and Fried Liveer Attack, evans gambit etc

Is the 1000 rating for 10 minute games or 5 minutes ones?

At 8:40, wouldn't they just take your queen rather than your knight. There's no mate threat since the knight isn't blocking e7

I dont know why but i have been having a sort of regression lately. I had recently broke 1100 then went on a bad losing streak and just kept making dumb moves. Got back to 1000 though luckily lol. Sometimes i beat players close to 1200 but when im playing against higher rated players i have noticed a huge leap in skill level

800 elo here but I've been solving puzzles for years and recognize tactics most of the time. In fact I'm about to hit 2k puzzle elo this year but my chess elo is still 3 digits haha. Those dang back-rank-mates get me every time.

I cant remember any of these things in game!! So jee its frustrating!

instead of playing Ng5 I played I played Ne1 in a simular position and evaluation said it was the best and my opponent blundered by removing the mate

According to Stockfish, my problem is that sometimes I'll see a move, think "meh" because it's just a pointless check, or a fair exchange, or I lose a piece for a pawn, but it turns out I'd have got some advantage I couldn't see.

These videos are great and very useful for students. The distinction between blunders and tactics mistakes is very useful, something a basic computer analysis doesn't pick up

i got a tactics mistake on my game to get 1300 I had a brilliant move and everything but I missed the idea of taking his bishop for free and then threatening checkmate I went straight for the checkmate not realizing his rook was defended by not just the knight but the bishop i took the knight with a rook then took the other rook with my rook thinking checkmate but no the game went on and he took my rook with his bishop and won the game after picking off my pawns
