Are you always worried that other people are judging you when you’re out and about? It’s normal to feel slightly anxious or uncomfortable when you’re hanging out with co-workers or people you’ve never met before. However, when your anxiety from being in a social setting becomes so overwhelming or even debilitating that it starts affecting your daily life, it may be a sign of social anxiety. The symptoms can vary from sweating and trembling to experience nausea and dizziness. Severe social anxiety can even cause some to avoid social situations or going out altogether. social anxiety really is something people underestimate.. people just think you get shy or nervous, and blame you when you don't wanna do certain things or do certain actions, but it's SO much more than just "shyness".

i'm not even shy...i just can't do groups. especially when they are already gathered when i arrive. like at a bus stop. if there is even one person there, my anxiety goes through the roof. but not shy...if someone speaks to me, i'll talk to them. it's more a sense of not being as _______ (good, smart, kind, just fill in the blank...)as the others.

Here’s something that helps me since I’m just bad at talking to people: I sometimes just tell whoever I’m talking to that I’m bad at conversation and I get stressed about social stuff or something. It makes me feel better because then I know that the person knows I’m not good at talking and they will understand why I’m quieter and stuff. :D

I've been living with an extreme social anxiety all my life (l'm in my 50s now, alone and probably will die alone) and this is the only way that works a bit, provided of course that your closest family accepts it. It doesn't stop the other people from judging you but it changes a bit how you process your emotions.

I hate it when people say "just get out of your comfort zone" First of all when the hell was being alone a comfort zone. I never felt comfortable having social anxiety. Its not easy to overcome it and I just wish some people could just understand. I love how you give us actual advice instead of telling us to get out of your comfort zone. And its not introversion or being shy. Those are totally different things.

Bro, none of my family or friends understand how hard it is having social anxiety. Here is some reasons I have social anxiety. 1. I’m scared on the way I look since I’m fat and I’m scared to face it. 2. I hate the fact how I act like because I’m scared of how people find me like weird. 3. I never know how to strike up a conversation. It’s so hard to find a topic and I can never do it right because I mess up a lot. 4. I’m not even ready to meet new people and my family is just forcing me. 5. The way I dress. It’s so hard to try to look good for others but it always ends up being a flop and I get embarrassed. I hate the way I’m like this. I wish I was just in kindergarten not having any worries. I hate my life.

I had social anxiety from an early age. I was comfortable only with my family and close friends. Whenever I meet new people I get anxiety, I felt uncomfortable with them and many odd thoughts would come in my head regarding how my first impression was, my body language, how I looked, if they liked me, and more........ and then I would kinda freaked out from the inside. As I grew up, I faced worse. Due to a personal trauma, I caught up depression, more type of anxieties and also went through a lot of panic attacks, but at first it was just about sadness and loneliness from a certain situation. Bcoz later on, it became something else, I got mood swings and felt a rollercoaster of negative emotions for no reason!!! It became something that was within me, my own mind, and I don't directly think of something like a past bad situation or event in my life........ I don't know its just like an..... Unexplainable, unspoken sadness. It was so hard for me to stay alive because everyday it was getting worse, I thought a lot about taking me own life and also about ways of how to die!! Like literally... But I never had the guts bcoz I was terrified of feeling pain coz one way or the other I had to feel pain to die...... So I just suffered for several months and felt like I had already dead and I was just wandering like an automated robot or a zombie. I didn't had any interest in anything or any enthusiasm in me..... Although I learned a lot of life lessons and realized many things about other people and myself in that time period, still all I felt was sadness and mental pain till date. At that time, I was also kinda willing to live in a loop of a moment in time forever where I had happiness inside of me bcoz at least it will be better than living though I wasn't alive. But it is not possible so then what could I do, I begged for happiness in my life from I don't know whom. I just begged!!! But no matter how much hope I kept or how much I craved, I begged, no miracle came along, nothing happened like it happens in movies. Nothing!.... Reality isn't kind in real like it seems in movies and it was not my choice to be in that state of mind... It felt like my life would be forever dark, empty, cold, lonely..... After a long awful battle, for some period of time, I finally overcame my mental illness by doing things that I was afraid of, but eventually after some time it comes back again, that hopeless feeling like I was being sucked out from my mind... It's like a never ending war, like battling with the water at the seashore, the waves just come and goes and come and goes by their own... and it's like whatever u do doesn't even matter, it's just so strong and so painful............ I had no one to share it bcoz I thought no one would understand. I told my sister, and I guess she understood for about a 30 percent but it doesn't matter bcoz she forgets it and like everybody else she is more focused on herself than others. So for the time being, I will keep trying to push away every negative feeling that comes in my head. I will keep trying my best to not react to my emotions and to keep calm and keep hope coz the sunshine in my life is yet to come. So I hope that everybody does it too.. don't ignore your problems, face them and try your best to overpower them. Be a conqueror!! U're not alone. Everybody else around you is fighting too...

The perfectionism really does hit close to home... but I didn't know that it had something to do with my social anxiety. I was always the kind of person who just wants things to be perfect and now that I think about it, there were many moments where I was either laughed at, judged, or harshly criticized by friends and family members when I did something, especially if that something is creative. I still deal with this despite going to therapy and I have discussed this with my therapist many times but I am trying to get better at it. Perfectionism to me has gotten to the extent that I end up pushing back or even scrapping projects no matter how far I've gotten in them because they might not be up to my high standards. I guess it's also because I am afraid of being judged in the things I do and I have noticed it slowly seeping into things I do daily such as what outfit to wear, how my hair is like, writing on notepads etc.

I had really bad social anxiety back in the day when I was in high school & even after I got in to med school. Professional assistance along with bursting the bubble of comfort frequently and be prepared to embrace the whatever discomfort that comes along with it was the key to overcome my social anxiety to a point where I don't feel discomfort at the presence of strangers or social encounters anymore. Gotta be proactive about it & "No f***s given" mindset really helps alleviate it too.

how about a normal therapist instead of being in a hospital? Because maybe just beeing in a hospital makes you feel more uncomfortable. I myself have to deal with lower social anxiety myself and I am going through an identity crisis right now. Since I´m not ,,healed" yet, I cant give professional advice, but someone else can. Just see it that way: a soccer player can be really good with one coach, that knows how to treat him and train him. But under a different coach, the player suddenly cant play soccer like he used to. I think you just need to find one person/therapist that understands you a bit better and fits you :D

My family does not accept the idea of me going to a psychiatrist because they see that I am in good condition and do not need any doctor. Also, I live in a society that believes that only the mentally ill or crazy person goes to this. Places I have overcome some of my fears. I have a friend with whom I talk comfortably. My tension decreases when I talk to her. I begin to interact with a small group and they discuss questions, but when everyone listens to me and looks at me, I feel that my body temperature is high and I become nervous and shorten my words. I try hard to make eye contact, but I cannot. I cannot. I make eye contact for five seconds. Even my best friend, I don’t make eye contact with her much. I don’t know what to do or how I will act. Finding ways to improve myself to be the best I can be in ways that are possible, such as cleanliness/grooming, style, and diet/exercise and not worrying so much about things I have little to no control over helped me to eliminate or decrease my negative reactions to my thoughts about whether I was being judged. You have to do something to get out of the hole you’re in; don’t wait for somebody else to save you. This is the same with any mental health issue. Tell a loved one, see a therapist if you have the money, or if money is an issue, there’s a lot of information online.

Social anxiety is a disorder, a phobia (and it comes with some paranoid and psychotic symptoms too) that affects greatly your quality of life, even if you think a certain way, your physical symptoms and the anxiety will be such you'll feel the need to avoid things altogether. Causing a constant struggle between what you truly want and what you eventually do. Procrastination, avoidance are a tendency. Examples are: going out at all, going out with friends, going to meetings or parties, going to the supermarket, going to a restaurant, to school, public speaking (like speeches or participating in class) , taking the bus, going out for a run or the gym, making calls or receiving calls, recording audio messages, and even sometimes texting!! Every single scenery where social interaction occurs (or doesn't, but there is still people present, like walking down the street alone) is a possible triggering situation, even performing in front of your relatives. The dread is very real and it is tiring being bombarded by constant stimulus. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is common in subjects (in my case it is constipation) , muscle spasms/tics, panic attacks, somatic symptoms, allergy. Feelings of frustration, anger, being powerless. Some do masking to get by. However, our levels of anxiety aren't the same everyday, some days we can feel quite relaxed and can chill out. True, our body and mind fears in an unreasonable way, but we actually like making conversation and want to bond with people, which explains why people with social anxiety can be social butterflies too :). People can grow out of some things as they age and learn more, therapy does help a lot, changing your mindset and opening up/letting go helps too, working on your self-steem is a priority as well. My anxiety now isn't as violent as when I was in my teens or childhood, it does subdue. But chronic mental disorders are a lifetime commitment, it is something to bear in mind. So another advice to people would be to surrender (not the same as giving up), surrender to who you are and embrace all your sides. The more you fight against your body, the more struggle you create for yourself. You are hurt, you are bruised, that is a part of you. Let yourself be awkward, let yourself have tics, let yourself act weird, be honest and upfront with your problems, don't be afraid to say you have a certain mental illness, ask for help, let yourself be wrong when answering a question, etc. Don't lie to yourself, only by embracing can you begin to heal. Trust yourself. Eventually you will be able to grow and protect yourself and others. Thanks to the channel for making psychology accesible to everyone and raising awareness on mental health, it's great.

I never had social anxiety really. In 2019 i had so much stress from school that both social anxiety and depression decided to come visit. After a year of relaxing, I’m slowly starting to realize that i dont get as anxious and its the absolute best! I wish every and each one of you the same!

Im suspecting that i have social anxiety, and I’ve been wanting to go to a phycologist for other reasons as well, but I’m too scared to tell my mum because the reasons are way too personal and she’ll want every detail about it. I told my teacher about it and she said it would be ideal to give a reason but i dont have to, but i do have to tell my mum that i want to go to one.

My father told me that if you have trouble talking to people, try small talk or just talk about the simplest of things that won’t make you over explain and just stumble your words, which is what I do and I was diagnosed with social anxiety(which I thought was me being an introvert), and if it’s hard with you even trying small talk, let other people control the conversation, but not too much to not allow you to share your opinion. Sometimes all people need is a little help in conversations, since not everyone is pro at them or know exactly what to say :D! (Sorry if this is bad explaining, I’m terrible at explaining anything)
