I find it better to hold a pen will my thumb further back and also to use really thin stationary, as well as not tucking in the unused fingers and using them to rest on, keeping my hand steadier. The pen sits differently, on the long part of the index finger, but it really improves control.

Awesome videos. What ideas or tricks do you have help strengthen fingers to keep the grasp of the writing utensil and apply enough pressure. My son has been doing OT for 2 years now and still has trouble with low tone in his fingers and not applying enough pressure.

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for the comment and question! There are so many hand strengthening exercises! I would ask your current OT about activities you can do at home with your son. They could have some good tips :) Also, here is a website that gives 35 different activities for strengthening!! theinspiredtreehouse.com/hand-strength-35-fun-activities-for-kids/

These are great tips! She’s probably seen children work with Occupational Therapists who are the real experts in addressing fine motor deficits which could affect handwriting. If your child is truly experiencing these problems, perhaps you should seek out an Occupational Therapist who can not only give tips, but who can actually work on the underlying causes for the deficits.

My child has been seen by OT and she goes to a mainstream school and I don’t think she’s getting the help she needs. She cries more than she writes , would she be able to get into a school for Autistic kids even though she’s High Function?
@ottvfun8027
@ottvfun8027 2 жыл бұрын
Oh I’m sorry to hear that! Definitely no fun! Depending on the child’s age, typing can be a good option for getting the assignments submitted and continue to work on handwriting. Perhaps try different mediums that are easy to correct to practice letter formation, or maybe even writing on a line ( ie: shaving cream, salt, air writing…). Most specialized schools for Autism would most likely require a diagnosis.
@lydialifestylee
@lydialifestylee 2 жыл бұрын
@@ottvfun8027 thank you, yes she has a diagnosis, in the UK we have specialist school and in mainstream where they have a special needs co-ordinator. She has a diagnosis of ASD but because its mild you can say, they may not accept. We will try this term, OT told her to use those pencil grips in this video still not helping. Thanks for replying.

One child keeps only his hand and wrist on the table letting the forearm sag below. He refuses to push the paper forward to let his forearm rest on the table. Also, he keeps his wrist slightly flexed. His writing has determined. What to do?

Hi thanku for sharing great tips, but could u pls suggest few tips how to teach kids with spectrum, (STRONG OR DARK WRITING SKILLS) bz when my kid write or even draw a line it's almost invisible, how can I teach him to apply appropriate pressure while writing so, it can be seen. Pls advice. Thanks

Maybe try erasable pens or markers or a 3b pencil. Try the different drawing pencils to get one soft enough that more pressure is not needed.

Is it the weight he needs? Have you tried using bean bags or something that you can attach to him using velcro? Or try letting him keep his backpack on. My son is also eleven and on the spectrum. I hope you find something that helps you both.

Ok, I think I have autism though and I don't have bad hand writing........????????? So what does that mean does that mean I'm not autistic? A question that I'm kind of upset about right now because I'm trying to go to get answer and nothing is answering my question it's just saying autism and bad handwriting so now I'm here.

Every autistic person has their own set of symptoms and challenges. Get a reputable diagnosis and go from there. Best of luck.

I disagreed with this video.! Let’s not focus on the technique that will probably hellos the child. Let’s use other things to attempt to physically correct what is a neurological disorder. Use 1 thing that works, speaking from experience, multiple options are multiple ways to go wrong
