Great times watching Foggy win WSB races and at the IOM. I will never forget Brands 1995 and all the England flags being waved in the crowd. The Bol dOr win at Ricard was another weekend to remember. Cheers.

Probably to me one of the three best racers of all time to me. I was never a fan when he was racing, but as time goes on I really like Carl, because of how honest he is about the past. And the other top two riders never won all the different world titles. So maybe he is The Goat. Love you man!

Thanks for that Dave. Interesting interview with Foggy. I’ve seen him a few times over the years. He’s mellowed a little, but his self belief hasn’t wavered. He must have been difficult to work with in a team, it seems there is lots of blaming machinery. Not a great lot of respect for other top class riders either. Though, as I say, interesting nonetheless. 👍🏻

Thanks a lot, Rick. Yeah, I genuinely wasn't sure what to expect with him but he was a great host. Couple of string comments but he's still the Foggy he's always been. So glad you enjoyed it 🙂

When WSBK ruled the world, great times and Foggy epitomised that era. Nice to see he’s mellowed a bit, but I guess different people need different things to get in the zone. My only issue is with his comment about TT riders being failed short circuit riders, not so sure bout that! A great podcast, keep em coming!

Cheers Neil, appreciate your kind words 🙏🏼 That comment was a bit misplaced, I agree. Granted, nobody could do what he did in terms of winning a TT and a WorldSBK race in the same year because times have changed in a big way but to say McPint, Hicky, Deano, et al are failures wasn’t great and not correct because again times have changed 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great interview Dave and what a treat to hear from the great Carl Fogarty a truly great champion of our time and the intensity and pressure of fighting to win a good honest interview on all the good and bad decisions he made through his career he is always so interesting to hear from and his opinions on the current championships are great to hear I would love to hear more from him on what's going on now especially what he thinks of Marc Marquez on the Ducati which from I have caught so far is a very exciting prospect .👌👍

I remember being at wsbk 98 at Brandshatch and it was that hot, all burger van's had run out of drinks and the track turned on all the water hose pipes so people could have a drink before we all dehydrated 😊

Another great one Dave. Carl is so unbelievably modest given all that he has achieved. Given I am a big TT fan he is up there for me when it comes to being one of our top racers. When I got his book signed I also got Michela to sign it as well because they really were a team. I just regret that when he was racing that Carl didn't realise just how much he was loved by all his fans from North & South.
@OffTrack_Podcast

Kind of you to say, thank you so much 😊 yeah there’s no question Carl owes much of his success to Michaela, she was such a positive force behind him. And that’s true, there’s no north/south divide when it comes to race fans but Carl was and remains a fully paid up Northerner with his northern comforts 😁
@robinmcewen3286
@robinmcewen3286 4 ай бұрын
@@OffTrack_Podcast Hahaha. He's not a 'northerner'! He's from the north of England. That isn't the north, Wick is! I'm only making the point because Foggy was loved in Scotland, as all the successful UK riders are/were. Tbf, Foggy himself makes reference to competing in Britain non-stop and not England, per se. Pedantry of the highest order, but always feel it's worth pointing out when people allude to England without mentioning the rest of the UK. I don't mind when riders wave an English/Welsh/Scottish flag after a win instead of a UK. But it is important to acknowledge that the whole UK is usually behind any rider from these shores - Scots/English/NIrish or Welsh. Look at the F1 drivers. Rarely 'English' or 'Scottish'. Always British. Sir Jackie being the prime example. Always a Scotsman, but always representing Britain. Exactly how it should be.

@robinmcewen3286 Well said, Robin. I couldn’t agree more and I say that as I head up to Scotland tomorrow to chat with Ian Simpson for the show. It mattered to Foggy that he was English (and Northern enough 😁) because of his rivalry with Niall and Hizzy but yeah I fully agree with you, JR and Rory both cases in point. We always want the British riders to succeed above all 😊

Cheers Dave, great flashback to the 90’s. I knew him as a kid , my dad did a bit alongside his, he always even at 5 or 6 twisted that throttle quicker than the rest of us ( on a Honda monkey bike too ) 🤷. Talks the talk even now but has the history to back it up I suppose .

Yeah... While the option to race at both levels is unlikely these days, there are still a million other ways to put it better. And the boys today are at least 12% faster than Foggy was around there.

Interesting point of view. Not one I’d agree with. Foggy has always been pretty outspoken, as are many top level sportsmen and women. The self confidence that sone of these people have is part of what makes them champions. I’d say he is less arrogant than earlier in his career, but not much. Though I seriously doubt he’ll care what anyone says on here.

He’s a complex character is Foggy. He was never really comfortable with the whole fame thing and sometimes socially awkward outside his own circle. But again, a shane you didn’t get to see the good side of him. Appreciate your feedback.

I never took any interest in WSB and Carl's career there, in the mid 90s I was exclusively following road racing. Carl is always interesting to listen to, even though I don't always agree with what he says, because he has opinions and is prepared to state them. I think many people see his roads career as maybe less significant than his short circuit years and they've been overshadowed. That's a great shame as he did great things on the roads and deserves a place up there with the best. There's a tendency in recent years to idolise some of the other road racers from that period and put them on false pedestals. The fact of the matter is that Carl and Hizzy moved the bar way up out of reach of the others for a few years, they were in a class of their own, and when they left the roads frankly it was second rate for a number of years. The riders left were very second class for quite a while. It was a truly fantastic but all too brief period in road racing and arguably places like the TT took over 20 years to regain that standard of competition. Road racing fans from a certain era remember Carl very fondly.

Completely agree with all of this, Andrew. It was a different time back then and as you say, Hizzy and Carl were big parts of that. There were some great riders after those two but not quite made to be the superstars of today. Every rider that attempts the TT should be applauded but those who raise the bar and push the limit even further should stand tall. Glad you enjoyed the show, Andrew 🙂
