I would love to see a 60 minute no attack game but between pros lol. See what nonsense they get with those settings; probably an instant race to wall off as many resources as possible since attacking walls won't be allowed.

That 60 minute rush from red was insane. I'm sure blue will be looking for a 75 minute no attack game for his next one to avoid that early pressure.

We did this back in the LAN party days with the old CD version of the game. And considering that the entire concept of our build order was just idling the TC because villagers cost precious food, and only when I want to build or research something, do I create one single new villager to send to the needed resource and not do anything else until I wait for it, that one hour of "no attack" time still landed us in the very early castle age at best. Back then we considered boars and deer as a decoration, and the "perfect" economy was 8-10 on wood, 8 on farms (because they nicely surround the mill), about 5 on gold and 2-3 on stone (no more, because then they exhaust the mines too quickly and that's scary), and about 3 extra idling villagers standing around in various locations in the town in case we want to build something. The perfect army was "5 of everything", and battles often ended in a treb war in the middle of the map, with other units not doing much except for standing around the trebs as a deterrent.

Good to see people with honor still exist on the ladder.

I would like to see more of these custom lobby games. It's interesting for me to see a variety of alternative maps and different playstyles, not the usual strict timings and metaplay of ladder matches. I love the community matches, 10x mod games etc, for their chaotic unexpected emergent gameplay and it would be nice to see some wacky game setups

Warrior priests have existed in many cultures, including China, Japan, and the Aztec Empire. People have said online that Georgia also had priests that went into battle, and the in-game Warrior Priest wears the traditional garb of the Khevsur people of Georgia, meaning that civ should have the unit, not the Armenians - however, I'm having trouble finding corroboration for that claim online.

Damn.... big map. If I played this map, I'd spend the whole time trying to get the Marco Polo achievement: 'Explore 99% of a ludicrous sized map'

This reminds me of the BGH NR40 3v3 StarCraft games my dad used to play back in the day

You can find this map in Random Map/Real World/West Africa. The biggest map ever even for 8 players with 300 pops each. You can send a transport ship from the East corner to the North corner, and by the time it gets there your opponent is already in Feudal. Don't rely on fishing ships alone for food as they travel very far for the res.

I exclusively watch on KZfaq (scheduling difference) still gave you my Amazon sub because these always are enjoyable! Great cast!

first time ever since my original AoE1 years I've seen a game mode like this, which imho is nice to have, like when we were noobs and loved to prepare our economy in Black Forest before attacking. What do you use to zoom in and out soooo much? A mod? If so, which one? This is a feature I wanted in AoE for so long

When this came out. (Initial release) I forgot the website used… where everyone played. We played 1 hour no attack noob lobbies. Some of us cannot multi task like these pros.

i might not be the first one but did you know youre referenced in a book. a german book called "echtzeitalter" youre first seen on page 72 just if you care. its a fictiv book about a boy playing lots of aoe2 ive seen this reference and was like, does this guy actually exist? yeah you do.

I enjoy playing long games like this from time to time. But on ludicrous you *need* to build forward bases.

There is a similarly large Africa map I loved…for one reason - you could get a creative water-land contest in 1v5 AI. Almost every spawn gave you a chance. The map I’m thinking of, with multiple rivers, redesigned, might be good for your com games or 1v1 if both players are so hidden the water search/land is inevitable. Funny you found this being played in ranked.

I played this online with aoe3 back when it first came out. It was the best because the end game fights are massive

I enjoyed it, there are a lot of off-meta players who love to play those "wacky" settings, I for once, only play FFA (I have a discord), I know people who only play 2v2v2v2 regicide (they have a duo) or people who only play FFA KotH (they have a discord for that) or scenarios and rms (they too have a discord specifically for that), it's a very wide community.

I enjoyed playing post-imperial 1v1 on BF. I played Byzantines and my buddy played Chinese.

When I play games like Age of Empires I am just playing SimCity (a game I've never actually played) I'm just in my area roleplaying until someone attacks me or gets in the way of my development. And speaking of roleplay, your SmallTrees mod disturbs me...

Meanwhile in AoE3: that's like 1/4 of the games in the public lobby. Treaty games are some absolute grind.

I think this might be interesting if the only victory that was allowed was wonder victory. It'd be like hide and seek, but it would also give the players something to focus on and looks for. I love thie concept of this, but it feels so spread out and random that it's hard to follow. So....maybe if there is a focus it becomes more engaging? Still, fascinating to watch.

I feel like a map this size, with these settings, needs a higher pop cap.

This is peak gaming, not those 15 minute tower rushes, castle drop, TC drop and other nonsense. I liked the smallest maps, but 80% of the games are stupid tower rush, who has fun with that?
