I graduated the Marine Infantry Officers Course in 1988. The staff officers weighed everything we had to carry from 200 rounds of machine gun ammo and a mortar round per man to our boot laces and the water in our canteens. The total load was 105.3 lbs. They also determined the maximum length of a force march while having the physical capacity to fight at the end of it with those real combat loads as 8 - 8.5 miles. All this feminist lobbying for equal outcomes makes units less lethal and weakens our nation.
@ACiDiCAnGeL Жыл бұрын
This year's IOC prep platoon conducted a 15 mile hike. Their packs weighed 98lb and this is not including their uniform, boot laces and whatever else that ultimately weighs up to an additional 12lb give or take and this is not including their weapon (~12lb IAR M27). There are women at IOC currently and they all passed that hike. I do wonder at times why our loads are increasingly heavy over the years. I'm not at IOC but I did go through the BOC. General Zinni came to talk with us early in the POI, he commented on how we carry far too much. My dad is a Marine of the Vietnam War; he was attached to a recon unit. He had his flak, .45, claymores, and kabar. The RTO had the radio as well; the PRC-117's predecessor.

There needs to be a clause of no pregnancies while in a combat outfit. The whole work up before deployment is team building. If you are the SAW gunner and get pregnant you are out of the team and now that team is out of sync. Yes to Artillery, LAVs, AAVs, Tanks, but NO straight leg grunts.
@slowpoke96Z283 жыл бұрын
Good point. For example, I see no reason a pregnant woman couldn’t do arty. But after some point in the pregnancy, labor is imminent and has to be a liability. And apparently labor is hard enough on its own, without adding combat.
@deathfromabove22503 жыл бұрын
Women shouldn't be authorized to get pregnant during their first contract in the military. If they do, automatic separation. They sign a contract agreeing to work in exchange for pay and benefits for 4 years, while being ready to deploy anywhere in the world. If you can't meet that obligation in your first contract, kick rocks.

As long as the standards dont change, women should be allowed to do any job in the Marine Corps. If they cant meet the standards, they get dropped, period. There are men that cant meet the standards. They get dropped. So do the same thing with the women.
@Ser_Arthur_Dayne3 жыл бұрын
This is one of my huge problems with this. Apparently there used to be a standard march that needed to be completed by all Infantry Officers - 15KM (about 9.5 miles) in under 3 hours with a 152lb pack..(and your weapon, of course..) the Obama Admin forced them to drop both and lower the standards so women would have a chance at completing the course. Ridiculous. I was never in the military but I really wanted to be - long story - in particular a Marine infantry officer. And I was in *tremendous shape* by the time I graduated high school. Wrestling for years and dedicating myself to preparing my body etc - I was in *great shape* - but I was only 5'8" and 135lbs. I honestly do not believe I could have carried a 152lb, almost certainly not for 9.5 miles, *and* at a 3+ miles per hour pace. If a woman can do exactly what the men do, go on with your bad self then. No problem. Lowering standards is bullshit. Shannon motherfucking Faulkner fought to go to The Citadel because she wanted to be a social justice warrior before we had such things. She lasted 4 hours before claiming 'heat stress' and was gone in a week. It's just ridiculous. The girl on this is celebrating doing pullups. She looked barely able to complete 3. I think I used to do 26-30 in under a minute.

@@Ser_Arthur_Dayne I was in the Marine Corps. There are no humps with a pack that weighed anywhere near 150 pounds. Maybe 75-80 pounds. At best. But definitely not 150 pounds. I agree, however, with the notion that lowering standards is bullshit. Especially in a branch of service like the Marines.

'That's one of those myths ... that women can't do pull-ups. But we have it on video now.' Spare us. We have her on video all right - doing two. Male Marines who can do 20 are a dime a dozen. Nobody actually argues that 'women can't do pull-ups.' Some women can't do any. Some men can't do any. But if you test well-conditioned athletes - swimmers for instance, who typically can do lots of pull-ups - you will find that on average, top-ranked women will be able to do fewer than top-ranked men. How many fewer? I'd bet fewer than half as many. I would be easy to tabulate pull-up results from the final PFTs at TBS and MCRD, break them down by sex and average them out. I am quite sure the Marines have crunched those numbers and would have been happy to share them with '60 Minutes,' had the reporter bothered to ask.
