A handmade bicycle tire made out of tennis balls is an unconventional and eco-friendly way to create a functional tire for a bicycle. The tennis balls are shaped to fit onto the rim of a bicycle, providing the necessary traction and grip for riding on various surfaces.

In Germany during WWII there was a shortage of rubber & ofc bicycle tires, so bicycling germans started welding springs to their rims which worked well on gravel roads and dirt. There's a photo on the interwebz to prove it.

That exists, you can buy it. From what I hear it doesn't come close to the performance, comfort and light weight of a normal air tyre, but if you're really struggling a lot with punctures, it's an option. Might be better to go for semi-flat-proof tyres like Marathon Plus.

Great idea, to use old tennis balls. But you can put tennis balls in fat tires with the right size to keep inside a tennis ball, it's more simple and secure.

Those are not tennis ball tires, They are steel hoop tires, if you took the tennis balls out, they would still roll on the hoops. The tennis balls help keep the outer tire centered on the hoops at best, but they really serve a cosmetic purpose for the most part.

What's the point? Air, whether in your tire or in the tennis balls, is the support either way. Only advantage is if you pick up a nail you only flatten one ball and probably wouldn't notice any liss of performance. However, that's a lot of trouble and expense to go thru when you perhaps have a flat on average of one every two years. Besides, how much performance is lost and the odds your tennis ball tire would throw a tread? All these questions are rhetorical and I don't need an answer because it's obvious and I do give you an A+ rating for invention and it's likable.

Tennis balls don't catch a flat and they'll probably work reasonably well despite being punctured. And they might weigh less than tire and tube
