You would rather tell a story of more dead people than the "sacrifice-one pawn," this story of unbelievable pain and forgiveness. Yes, that too is a choice. However, the pawns on a chessboard are not human-they have no power over life, and they can't save lives and set such a high standard for these shares. I understand the pain and the need for a different kind of justice, but I rather the sacrifice and the honor we could represent when asked to sacrifice. Vengeance or justice-the historical example of life over more death served both sides. I don't think I am made of that kind of doing, but I have the ability to admire it for the right reason. Go on, move me!

This isn't about the man, the TRC is about the victims and their families and the best way for them to heal. Retributive justice wasn't the way to help the victims as it causes a spriral of hate. Reconciliation was the best way to provide closure to the victims and their families.

@@babatunde55who’s to say. Some victims feel as if retributive justice is the only way to move on. Others feel that neither truth nor retributive approaches do enough because the systemic inequalities that have come about do not get addressed in either. How are the victims able to move on if they are in the same disadvantage as they were independent of whether those who victimized them are punished or free.

Disgusting!! Privilege doesn't know what generosity looks like, when that is all they know, established through torture and greed! They'll deflect "look at what the other person is doing" because don't want to be responsible...that means you have to do the work of being accountable and reconcile...Unless your ❤ understands the real meaning of grace...they will see it as a waste of time. This is exactly what's happening in the good ole' 🇺🇲
@TejasM14

I am afraid, I didn't know about the mechanisms of Truth and Reconciliation. While magnanimous at one level, I don't think such a procedure would ensure reconciliation and enduring peace. For that, you first needs justice. While capital punishment would have been state sanctioned violence, taking freedom away in the form of a prison sentence would have at least come close to being commensurate with the seriousness of the crimes. Further more, going through the painful process of recording and investing crimes should have been done. Simply granting amnesty does not ensure closure. It is pretending like wounds don't exist. Enshrining human rights and reconstituting organs of the state should have been ensured. The very perpetrator being interviewed is suggesting his former allies are in the police forces. The little that I know about modern South Africa, I don't think that has been achieved.

We humans under the pressures of nature's laws only attempt reasoning to act or react to our moments realized of a moment as fate over and done. Never ever will change that in what is good and that to which is evil will forever be. Our struggle is not in each believing we know truth but rather convincing others to sense the same. Deliberate torture done upon another from one to the other will always be real EVIL!

*Tutu is Taboo* *And Evil too!* *"possibility of changing"???* *He's an idiot because true "Christian" change begins with heart felt remorse & empathy toward one's victim & a desire to atone for one's crime/sin. There was none of that here & Tutu failed the victims by ignoring true biblical standards.*

It takes one bad man to get power. Look at Hitler. So many thought they were patriotic and the Germans were victims to Jewish migration. What a joke . Look at mexico now or some countries in Asia. Cartel or government good people are sometimes blind and overly forgiving. Never forget the Holocaust never forget 9/11 and so much more even way way way back in history

@@barrontrump9917 except the jewish people practically did run germany in the weimar age the germans reacted as badly as they did for a reason they didnt just suddenly decided one day everything that had ever went wrong was the jews fault, even hitler would call you an idiot for thinking like the way you are.

Sometimes in life we come across people who are one in a million. And if we're lucky we'll come across people who are one in a billion. This man was one in a billion for sure. A true gent and a stalwart. God rest you Sir. Your legacy will last for many years to come. RIP. From Ireland

We no longer deal in millions or billions, we deal in trillions and quadrillion. Desmond Tutu stepped into the quantum spectrum of being one in a quintillion. His passion, his intuitive wisdom, his forgiveness, his relevance, his reverence, and most of all his consistency. If there is no God, we should use our minds to create one to welcome him on his continued journey. You made this race proud--we, the human race. Thank you!
