It’s wild how much crossover there is between resin and nail art! This was a nail trend a couple years ago and it’s back with resin. I have done my nails for many years and SO many of my supplies end up on my resin table. 😂

I use to know a family who worked hard to build their nail salon. In the 90s here in US it was a huge business. I had my acrylic nails done, and had the most interesting artworks done. Many techs started getting sick. So, resin is now being incorporated as a nail covering???

Great fun. I use this technique on nails with gel polish. I make my bubbles in a container with a lid, just leave space for the bubbles, lid it up and shake. You get much smaller bubbles which are less watery and easier to handle. Surprisingly, adding alcohol doesn't kill the bubbles.. some nail techs add a gel clean up solution to their bubble mix, which is a mix of acetone and alcohol. I've also found a thinner layer of gel polish top coat gives much crisper bubble definition, not sure if that translates to the uv resin but perhaps a variable you might like to test. Bubbles are a great way to show off super fun chameleon powders :)

I didn't want to read through 120 comments to see if someone suggested it already, but if you can find something deep with a lid and just put a little bit in there, you can shake it up really well and get smaller bubbles and no water and can just scoop the bubbles off the top with your hand. If you like the bigger bubbles, still do the deep container with lid, just don't shake too hard or too much. It's totally fun! I just did this in a piece for my granddaughters mermaid and octopus.

I think I know a better solution for bubbles... If you take a travel bottle n you add some soapy water barely any and shake vigorously then squeeze them out the top I think it's fast (before bubbles pop) and gives many small ones. I think more is better when your trying to get more uneven area so chamaeleon chrome or pigments hit more areas of light causing multiple colors to shift. Hope this helps.

@daniel..cooper

Hi, the bubbles will pop before regular resin can cure so must be UV for this one.
@shirleynan
@shirleynan Жыл бұрын
Should have showed the other side! Would have been interesting to see what it looked like since you placed black mica down first. I have made many of these but never put mica on the bottom first so maybe it did not look so interestingt! To achieve a more natural effect make again with a very thin layer of 2 part resin and cure. Then put a layer of UV and the soap bubbles making sure you only get the bubbles and not any water (I think that's what happened with your 1st coaster)! Cure again and then put the chameleon colors on. Fill with 2 part resin that is colored black and cure. When unmolding the bottom becomes the top and the look of the bubbles is very smooth - not concave! FYI This 1st layer becomes the top of the coaster and makes it heat resistant so can be used as a functional coaster. Also adds an interesting depth to the coaster!
@daniel..cooper
@daniel..cooper Жыл бұрын
Hey, it was only my 1st attempt 😂 bear with me 😂 the other side would have just been black as was just resin and mica powder. I'm still learning the arts, I'm no professional, I followed instructions from a video I loved, I can now experiment from here 🥰

Ok. I did mine and it worked regarding the dimples in the bottom layer but after pouring the top coat, the dimples all disappeared. I did put some interference blue powder in the bottom layer while still wet so maybe that is where I went wrong. Maybe I didn’t cure the UV resin long enough. I cured it for 30 minutes or so.🤷🏻‍♂️ Will try again but at least this coaster looks sort of like a galaxy from the powder so not all lost.😎

You transferred water with the bubbles mate. Plastic spoon may be better. UV resin, you only need just enough to cover the surface, allowing the bubbles to adhere to it & dry rapidly! Your UV lamp may not be strong enough to penetrate & dry both at the same time. When adding more mica powders, if you give the mould a blast of easy release, it’ll help the powder lay thicker all over, just tap off excess before pouring flood coat.
@funo6581

Those turned out beautiful Daniel! When you went back in with the gold, it got me wondering what a second layer of UV with Marabu’s rainbow glitter alcohol ink mixed in and more bubbles would look like? Would the alcohol ink effect the bubbles? Now I’m very curious what would happen!😂 Resin “is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you’re gonna get.”😆

@@joallawestervelt6918 Thanks for that info. I hadn’t heard that before. I’ve only done UV projects a couple of times. The UV resin I bought when I first started working with 2 part epoxy has really strong fumes, it lingers on long after I’m through with it. Even with a floor fan on and the back door open. Since I don’t want to wear my mask for hours😅 I haven’t used it for awhile. A couple other channels I watch seemed to like JDiction UV so, I bought that but, haven’t tried it yet.

@joallawestervelt6918

Ok I just reread the recommendations: do not use opaque or deep molds. The UV light needs to penetrate through the resin to cure properly. Not all pigments work with UV resin. Need to use pigments that are specially for UV resin. Alcohol inks, opaque pigments are NOT recommended. If using black pigment, use only a tiny amount and cure in layers. Or pour a clear layer of UV resin and cure it first (on both sides), then add black UV resin on top and cure. Also do not add too much pigments, glitters, mica powder or other fillings, it won't let enough UV light go through the UV resin to cure it properly. NOT recommended to brush the mold with mica powder/chameleon powder before pouring UV resin. Pour a clear layer, cure, then brush powder on the surface and then pour another clear layer for coating. To get rid of bubbles, prick with toothpick or silicone stick or heat up the UV resin with a heat gun. These are a few of the basics that was provided in the UV starter kit. They are very basic for sure. I would probably Google if I needed more information. Regardless, I hope this helps. There are UV resin pigments as well as UV inks available for purchase.

How would you get the inverse so the bubbles are convex looking rather than concave.

You would need to reverse it and do the UV layer 1st 😊 So then the bottom becomes the top. Maybe do a layer of clear before the bubble layer 😊

How do you find using resin in this heat as I’m finding mine is curing way too fast and ruining my work. Xxx

Can you do this with regular resin and not UV resin?
@daniel..cooper
@daniel..cooper 11 ай бұрын
The closest way would be to do a raindrop effect but won't be the same sadly 😔

Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I realized the bubbles would fizzle out before the resin set. lol @@daniel..cooper

i thought the trick was to dry the bubbles first,with lamp and then use a coloured Resin or use chameleon powder under the resin

Your bubbles were too big. It works really well if you use smaller bubbles.
