If you make walking sticks a spoke shave is great for removing bark and for getting an even roundness before you carve or shape the stick. Somewhere I have a 100 year old spoke shave given to my dad by an old boy who apprenticed back in the 1920s on the grounds that dad didn't sell it! I've put it in my workshop...somewhere! But I've bought another and love that every time I use it i am copying the action of a crafts man in Saxon times

100% agree…boxes are needed, but a beautiful curve or chamfer with the finesse of a spokeshave makes something special,,

It's such a joy to use a spokeshave. I still don't have a draw knife but I intend to acquire some eventually and build a shavehorse. Old draw knives aren't as plentiful here in Denmark.

Thank you for sharing. I use my flat bottom spokeshave and keep hunting a round bottom. An affordable round bottom like a 151R with the precise settings is not easy to find. 😊
