Good advice GP to call dealer to confirm what fluid was used. The 1st thing I did when I got my LX was check all the fluid levels, all grease fittings and that all of the nuts and bolts were tight (torque spec) before using the tractor for the 1st time. To my delight the dealer that I purchased from had everything done to spec. When my LX reached 50 hours I changed all of the fluids and all of the filters even though it was not required at that interval. Checking the fluids prior to each use only takes a minute and can prevent an unwanted disaster. Have a good day!

Great catch Gord, like the way you operate. Better to be safe than sorry, NEVER ASSUME, call the dealer to be sure. Your equipment will outlast others way more because you are not afraid to ask . Keep up the good work around there and stay safe and always enjoy what you are doing. Fred.

Great tip Gord. I've been looking at that thing and telling myself "I need to check that", but...what can I say, I'm a procrastinator! Your video has me motivated. I'm going to the garage and check it right now! Thanks! Annnnd.....60 seconds later, all good. Level squarely in the good zone. That was stupid-easy and I feel silly for not having done that already! Thanks again.

My front axle service is 400 hours but I did first change at 200 hours and do each 200 hours. I use my grapple and loader quite a bit so figured it can't hurt to change the axle oil a bit more frequently. Not sure if it really makes a difference. I usually check the axle oil when I grease my loader

During the initial fill and/or dealer PDI, they will fill it to the right level. Unfortunately it takes time for the oil to get down into the final drives so the level may go down over time. They (dealer) will not wait for that to happen as it can take days to do so, even with use. It is important that when draining and refilling the front axle you check it after every use for a few times to see if you need to add any more gear oil as it works its way into the final drives. 🙂

Ok to spring a leak on a tractor but not so good on a rowboat in the middle of a lake. Snows coming and the maintenance on the tractor is a lesson learned. Thanks for the heads-up on checking all possible issues before the snow reaches three feet or more.

I know with some new tractor you can have an air pocket underneath the oil that eventually works it way out making the level look lower that it was.
@jackskidmore1164
@jackskidmore1164 Жыл бұрын
As with many comments here about air pockets, etc, I wanted to share my experience with my BX. The BX has only the orange dipstick, no vent tube. After a year or so of owning my BX (new from dealer) I came across a video about "BX Owners need to watch", so I did. Turns out when looking at the dipstick, the axle oil level says full, BUT...simply removing an air vent bold from the top of one of the final drive hubs, the oil had a chance to flow down into the final drives. I checked the dipstick again and there wasn't oil to be found anywhere. So I topped it up. Made me wonder if any oil was in the final drive for the first year and a bit of usage. Hopefully this helps BX owners out there. Keep up the great content GP. Always enjoy having a coffee on a Saturday morning watching your channel. I just need the GP mug to be complete. Christmas is coming...tell my wife. :) Cheers.

It’s a common problem that can lead too very expensive failure down the road . When the bearing decides too collapse it takes out gear and housing also . There’s tractors out there right now slowly getting metal filing’s going down the final drive grinding away . Depending on the use of tractor and severity of use it’s only a matter of time before failure .

Just a note: You can differentiate the oil type by smell. Gear oil has a unique smell and once you smell it, you will know. Consistency of the oil is different, too. Gear oil is a less viscous(more like maple syrup).
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop Жыл бұрын
How's she goin'? Good points Gord. The front axle oil is notorious for leaking out through the seals and it's a very light oil in viscosity and color so it's hard to see, but the axle oil level will decrease over time and then you what happens. And it isn't good!! Take care!!

Hi GP. The B2601 has the same dip stick as the LX. I made a video showing adding oil to the front axle. You may want to turn the wheels back and froth to get any air out that might be in the lines. Stay safe and warm my friend. Later

Thanks for the reminder Gord. I had heard about the axles not being topped up after being shipped from factory. I checked my LX2610 after 1 year of ownership and it was just touching the bottom of the dipstick as well. No leaks, or wet spots. Strange coincidence. Great LX2610 content. 🚜🚜

Nice explanation, GP! I have heard from others that often times the axle fluid is not full when the tractor is delivered to the first owner. I don't know why that is but I am going to go check the oil level on my B2601 now! Cheers!

Hi Gord! Thanks for the great tips! When I changed my front axle oil at 400 hours, I didn’t know what oil was used originally but I chose to use the Kubota UDT to refill it. It was simpler to have one less type of oil on hand for maintenance. Thanks for sharing!

I would not be concerned about a leak. I simply think the level was like that from the beginning. Let's also consider that being level for checking the front axle is very critical. Would you have only a 1/2" difference in level between the right and left wheels, then it would show a 1/4" difference on the dipstick. Also, nothing spins fast in there, so I am the least concerned about that missing oil! Thanks!

The b2601 uses the same style of dip stick as the lx2610 and always has. The reason you were so low on oil is because they never checked the oil during PDI. If you had a leak anywhere you would know

Hello GP, I had rear end in a truck that would always be down a little. With no leaks. Finally an old times said they can burn or use oil just like an engine burns it. A worn bearing gear or spacer. May be the cause. You can chase those things until the cows come. Just check the oil level mmore often than the book says.

While it is handier to only have to buy UDT, and they do recommend using it, it makes me wonder. The gear oil is much thicker than UDT. I have the same setup on my BX24. If you cut firewood in the winter, used UDT actually works well as bar oil....too thin to use in the summer but for winter it's perfect.

@HuserHelpers
@HuserHelpers Жыл бұрын
Most likely it was slightly low because when they filled it, some of the air hadn't worked its way out of the final drive gearboxes. A good process would be to fill it to the full line, then go drive it about for a little while. Then re-check it.
