Gaps on these old rides can drive people nuts! My dad purchased a new 1970 LS6 Chevelle . I look at pictures from when it was new. The front bumper was high on drivers side. Hood fitment was off on one side...brand new vehicle. He and everyone back then never mentioned it. To them it was a bad ass Chevelle. Today people would nip pick how it was built from the factory LOL I would suggest edge all your panels, assembly car then paint whole car. Less chance of scratching or chipping paint and you get best color match. Also for best color match buy all the paint you need at same time.

Thanks for the update. You'll hate doing that metal work but it'll pay off in the end result. Glad to see you back at it. I painted my car in parts too which was sketchy cuz I went with a metallic.
@ClassicCarOverhaul3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I have heard about painting separate panels and the body when using metallic. I will probably change my mind and paint all the jambs and panel edges, put it all together then shoot the whole car.

Good to see you back Sam. Remember if you paint all the panels separately there is a good chance that the shades of color will be different, just because of the variations in the spray patterns you will use. That is why most professionals paint the body with all the panels attached to get an even blend across body lines and seams. Check it out on some other channels that specialize in paint.
@ClassicCarOverhaul3 жыл бұрын
Thank you George. That is something to think about. I will probably paint the jambs and all the edges on the panels then put the car together and paint it all..

Hey Sam, good to see you. Glad to see you working on the Impala. I definitely second the storage building idea. I had to do that and it helped a lot.

Looking good Sam. I've hung a few doors with the magnet also. The trunk lines look groovy. I remember how much work you put in. Happy Holidays.

For fender to door gap adjustment ,at the top where they meet, you will have to shim up your radiator support. Shim between frame and support. Don't do any cutting or welding to any gaps until entire car is built and have exhausted all your possibilities for shim adjustment. Good luck. You will get it. I spent two entire weekends dialing mine in before I did any panel replacement. Takes time.
@ClassicCarOverhaul3 жыл бұрын
I did shim the left side of the radiator support and it did help some but not enough. Thanks for your suggestions!

@@ClassicCarOverhaul I have same issue on my 64. I wasn't going to add any metal to fender or door until I installed the stainless trims. Then figure it out.

Try to make a template out a cardBoard, Of the right hand side ,See how close they lineup with the left side. It may tell you what's going on, They should be almost mirror image!

Thanks Larry, I have one of those tools that takes the shape of things but I can't find. But cardboard will work!

You may also want to check to see if your pillar has shifted since you put quarter panels on, A porta power Might pull it back in ,if it's out .Doing final adjustment is always a pain! I can't remember if you cross brace them before you started! Hope this helps.
