They should have mentioned it's the quick shifter causing the damage on the clutch basket which is why you should use the clutch when not smacking down. It's apparent in your case because you don't do dig racing so the only abuse the clutch see's is from clutchless shifting.

Alot don’t understand dry clutch is for peak performance.. they are aware it wears alot faster, the bikes were made for WSBK homologation anyway, cost of maintenance is not considered during the design phase, more power, better delivery is their main concern like the HP4 race bike, engine is supposed to be re-built every 3000 miles or something like that and if they own a V4R or HP4 , maintenance cost is not a problem for them 😂
@redrider0151
@redrider0151 Ай бұрын
The hydraulic clutch fluid has NOTHING to do with the actual clutch itself, its a separate system (thats sealed) that simply actuates the pressure plate (causing it to engage or disengage)...you either have a hydraulic one as in your case or you have a cable system that uses no fluid....the clutch itself has ZERO to do with this system. Yours locked up due to air in the system and it gets dirty due to MOISTURE (water) slowly accumulating in the fluid over time and from the seals....it has nothing at all to do with the clutch plates or how hard you ride. As you ride, if you feel it getting "spongy" you will need to bleed the system again. Its nice to see him explaining whats going on with the basket, although I think they need to use a MUCH HARDER basket, as they absolutely didnt wear this quickly in the older bikes back in the 90's. If I knew the baskets would wear so fast there is NO WAY I would have gotten a modern Ducati with a dry clutch. THey should be using a basket that is much more resistant to wear, even if it adds weight to the system (I am guessing that they lightened the basket due to rotating mass and for performance, but 3k every 4-6 thousand miles is INSANE.)
@triedproven9908
@triedproven9908 Ай бұрын
I agree the basket is trash. Hell they could have used titanium inserts where the teeth grab and left the rest of the basket the same material to keep costs down. Unacceptable wear at less than 5k miles in my opinion.
@redrider0151
@redrider0151 Ай бұрын
@@triedproven9908 I actually got into an argument with a guy...who said that I should have known that since its a dry clutch it wears more and that I have higher maintenance....I immediately replied, yeah, I knew my clutch would wear more since its dry...I accepted that and assumed that since its a dry clutch, the plates wear faster, however they are much easier to replace, being a dry clutch, so I accepted that.....however I didnt accept that the ENTIRE BASKET is wearing at an unbelievable rate...its COMPLETELY unacceptable!! The basket should be lasting 30k miles MINIMUM. The clutch is a wear item...NOT THE BASKET?!?!?!?! IMHO this should be a redesign and a RECALL!! How are they putting this same system on a Multistrada TOURING BIKE!! No way that group is accepting this....they ride 10-15k a year...so they are going to do this multiple times a year??? THe clutch discs are kevlar, the basket shouldnt be wearing from them, the basket shouldnt be wearing at ALL from the clutch plates, it should be the opposite, that the basket wears the plates...(the steel plates dont have the notches, only the kevlar...they shouldnt be eating up the basket)

@@PatricioGarcia1973 Yes, it makes less HP however it actually makes MORE torque than the V4R and weighs 100 lbs more as well....which IHMO will have even more an impact than HP on a clutch. Will this bike be ridden on a track, no...but it will absolutely be getting abuse on the street, in stop and go traffic, getting used WAY MORE than one that is on a track where someone will be using the quickshifter all the time. We will see over time how this works out. No one will ever change my mind that they are using a far inferior clutch basket that is being worn out and beaten by kevlar clutch discs in an extremely short amount of time....

if you daily a bike just driving it to work you're probably going to get a lot more miles before maintenance is needed vs. someone who strictly takes it to the track, when they refer to a normal amount of wearing they're probably talking about people who simply just ride street, and dont push the bike to its limits often, pretty much every liter bike is a "race bike" but we all know that not everyone uses them as such

My man ib is about as "composed" as they come! Shout out 📢 to ib for remaining "collected" & soft spoken, during this inspection. I can't say I would have been as, "peaceful"?😆, b/c @ 2:52 , for me, THAT statement is a "red flag", moment of clarity. What do you mean, "we've seen these WAY WORSE 😳after 10 or 15k miles"?? 😖?? Why? What's the advantage of a dry clutch, then? My '09 ZX-14 had over 90K mi. on it when I sold it, and it still had ALL the factory original clutch parts in it, working tip top. And I beat on that 14 collecting souls from 3,500mi to 90K mi., shifting EVERY GEAR, up & down, b/c it didn't have a Quick Shftr. That bike is old OLD school. But I never had to chg the clutch. . . . 90k+ miles. It's no fault of the owners' riding habits [ 2:18 ]. I saw what he did there, and that's eff'd up . . . imo. Kyle is "quick shifting" the responsibility to the owner, who is ONLY riding the bike as it was designed to be ridden. Nothing more. It's a "RACE" bike, right? Don't try to "smoothly" say I brought this on myself, THEN tell me [ 4:03 ] the design is "great for racing applications" 👎🏽👎🏽. Huh? 🤷🏽‍♂
@kroot47
@kroot47 Ай бұрын
The advantage to a dry clutch is: easier to maintain, reduce rotational mass, reduce power loss through the engine. Its advantage is it makes the RACE bike faster. If you’re looking at it compared to a non race bike then of course it’s going to be ridiculous. When you buy a race bike, and use it to race, you have to expect to use the racing service intervals. The race service intervals on the clutch are 1000 miles. The street use interval is 6k miles. Ib made it 4200 miles. For how he uses the bike, that’s good mileage. Race bike = race service intervals.

Theres no reason he needs to take the clutch apart unless its slipping, which it wasnt. It was not engaging, so its air in the clutch lines. So why is the clutch taken apart. He should have shown you how to bleed the lines and moved on. Theres absolutely NO ISSUES with the clutch itself at 4000 miles, you have air in your clutch line and it simply needs to be bled. End of story. Those techs are snowjobbing you. Everything they said is true to an extent, but NOT at 4000 miles. There is a ton of miles left on that clutch.
