I had a 66 baja bug in the early 70s. Traded it for a motorcycle. I have had many motorcycles since then. Sold my last motorcycle last year, a Suzuki VStrom DL 1000. I am 70 years old and my arthritis in my knees says I have to give up 2 wheels. This video really made me miss my 66. I enjoyed working on these great little cars. Going to start looking for an early bug!

Leaving those heater hose outlets uncovered will reduce the cooling effect to the engine. The pre 1971 bug engines were only single port design. The oil coolers were inside the fan housing, and only made of steel, with a screen tack welded to over the cooling fins. This set up caused poor cooling to # 3 cylinder, and caused the # 3 exhaust valve to break off at around 30,000 miles. 1971 and later engines had an external oil cooler, made of aluminum with more cooling fins. Most of the cooling air on this bug shown here will not cool properly. I have used spray can caps that would fit this outlet, and clamp them in place. The engine temperature went down considerably.

It was a single port 1600cc basically all stock. Just not for mine, since it was a 66, it came with a 1300 stock.

@@dustbuggy Haha not sure man, i bought it with the 1600 thankfully. Ive heard that 1300 is an absolute dog though.

Sounds cool, however not ideal. Recommend a 4 into 1 anything.

Josh smith Each exhaust port (4 of them) exits and merges into a single tube and sticks straight up. Bit loud for most, stick a muffler or spark arrestor on the end. The dual cannon is isolated on each side.
