Mat’s managed to get his hands on the all-new Mercedes EQE SUV!
That’s right, the EQS SUV’s baby brother is finally here, and we’ve got access to the hot AMG version. In this video, Mat’s going to find out if this car has what it takes to compete with the BMW iX.
This new car may look an awful lot like the EQS SUV, however there are some differences which mark it out. The EQE SUV is smaller and more boxy looking, and it’s got a sporty edge over its larger stablemate. It looks smart, if a bit nondescript. The AMG model gets some tasty upgrades to help combat this, including a deeper front bumper with additional spoilers, as well as 21-inch wheels as standard.
Things get a lot more exciting when you step inside, with the Mercedes Hyperscreen dominating the cabin. This optional setup includes a 12.3-inch drivers display, a huge 17.7-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display. The AMG version also gets unique graphics for the infotainment, as well as body-hugging sports seats.
Standard versions of the EQE SUV are available with either rear or all-wheel-drive and up to 550km of range Mercedes hasn’t announced power figures for this car yet, however you can expect them to be similar to the EQE saloon. The AMG version gets all-wheel-drive as standard, and up to a whopping 677hp.
Prices for the new EQE SUV haven’t been announced yet, however you can expect it to cost around £10,000 more than the EQE saloon. Question is, which would you have? Stick with Mat to find out all you need to know about this car.

@@neb4587 By being honest and open with their critiques and the bits they appreciate, journalists demonstrate a unfiltered opinion which is more useful to the consumer and intices the someone to trust their advice. Car companies recognise this, thus it makes more sense for them to rather listen to matts criticisms and work on them so that they can show an improved product which he can wholeheartedly recommend, which people would then pay more attention too.

My respect for Matt has increased. He doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to being honest. He calls issues out as it is, regardless of the reps. He's right, if you're paying a premium, why does the car not have "x y z"? Never shy away from the big questions when it comes to your money and safety, otherwise you will suffer mentally and physically. Good job Matt and good job Carwow.

People are commenting about Mat being ballsy, critical and honest, but to me it’s amazing how charismatic he is throughout this interaction with cringe corporate German guys, and how he manages to put them at ease a little and get them laughing, while keeping us entertained while these cars are being presented. I would have just cringed so hard in his place but he keeps it all flowing nicely. One of the best car reviewers ever hands down.

Fake grilles on EVs are a travesty in general, but to me, those on the EQ cars really take the cake in looking very cheap and frankly not befitting of a luxury vehicle. And now they're doing fake exhausts too.. I'm sorry but this is just dumb. What are these designers thinking?

Funny you say that, dont Mercedes have the higest range of them all regardless? EQS goes up to 750 km on a charge, and the EQXX is coming soon with 1000 km per charge, but probably at a pretty steep pricepoint

Lol you sure about that? The stats on this kind of thing aren’t very hidden, you can literally look this up and see that Tesla is outselling those other brands in Germany and it’s not even close. Not to mention the new factory in Berlin is about to make this even worse. Not sure where you live but that’s pretty unlikely just based on sales numbers alone

I love Mat and how he just does not give a damn about their opinion on what customers want, as he looks at it straight as a customer. Electric car with no front trunk, in a car for 100+ grand US yet no electric seat drops in the trunk, no seat adjustment in the second row, really quite a few features that people buying an SUV would actually want, are missing here, and he just rips into them for it. @@bernard5260 I agree, I saw EQS and EQE in person and are stunning. On video/photo they looked like toyotas to me. Said that, I think that the Audi Etron GT is the most beautiful electric, so My money might be going there in future. Unless Mercedes does something cool as the New C class (that I own) or S class (the E i dont pronounce it as it's ugly to me, but it's just a facelift.)

Should’ve applied some of the effort making the interior so nice to that horrible, cheap looking front. The fake, plastic grille just looks so tacky and uninspired to me. Just the whole exterior styling is just very meh to me much like the EQS. Feels like it would’ve been worthwhile to cut the drag coefficient by just a tiny bit to allow better styling.

@@natbarron - Honestly, that argument is nonsense. While it may be somewhat true based on the entire production process of the vehicle, you're putting it up against vehicles that will never be green. So, what really is your argument?? I would much rather drive something that has zero emissions from day one of driving it and every single day afterwards. Coupled with the solar on my house (that I realize not everyone has), my cars run by the sun's power. Yes, the majority of the electricity comes from coal, but more and more is coming from renewables. That balance will just shift further and further in the future to where coal is a small percentage. The grid definitely does need a massive overhaul, and hopefully that happens. EVs are still in its infancy, and there are many hurdles that need to be overcome. They are still a vast improvement over ICE vehicles and will keep getting better.

@@inflatable2 I was referring to the washing machine motor under the bonnet instead of a proper engine. No issue at all with an AMG SUV, my neighbour has one and it’s an absolute monster. It was bad enough when they ditched the 6.2 V8 and replaced it with a 4 litre turbo, replacing that with a washing machine motor is the final nail in the coffin.

Just in case they think we as consumer won't notice them or don't care. We do notice, and we do care. The Germans could take a page from Stellantis: RAM and Jeep. The attention to detail is second to none in the industry. What Audi used to be. I won't even consider a car where the rear window don't go all the way down. My OCD won't allow it.

This is the car (EQE SUV 4matic) that we will replace our EQC with. Will definitely go for air suspension, sun roof, & Hyperscreen options.

God, it's like they managed to make an SUV that's uglier than a coupe SUV from a side view. I don't care if the vehicle has an impressive drag coefficient to improve the range. It looks like a blob from all angles. It also doesn't help that it's barely distinguishable from the EQS SUV.
