In this video I test the 6-axis Robotic Arm from INNFOS GLUON. I was really impressed by it performance. It has the payload of 500g and the precision of around 2mm. The INNFOS selling this robot through the KickStarter campaign, see the link below.

@Glyn The AR3 is nice and I see that he has now closed the loops *but* I need to study more. Are these still stepper motors? Is torque limiting possible? This is a very important feature of industrial robots to avoid costly damage.

I can't wait to see your 7DoF arm with the timing belts and cables. You may actually achieve that 0.1mm precision :) Maybe not in the 3D printed version since the frame itself will flex, but the final version should be awesome.

Man. I already backed it but holy hell I am impressed with that. Dealing with the backlash can be solved with some clever locator methods so that's not even a deal breaker. I can't wait to have my hands on this and am so happy I skipped out on all the stepper motor versions of desktop robots.

It looks like the biggest difference in mechanics/drive system between these "hobby" type 5-6 DoF arms and "industrial" models is backlash. With 2mm of backlash it probably would be quite hard to use this arm for applications like welding or some precision positioning application. I think something similar but with much smaller backlash and "sane" price point would be a killer product.

Yeah man, nobody will tell you the absolute accuracy, you will always get the the accuracy in reference a teached point, fixed in space and known by the system, called Pose repeatability, even the big industrial robot manufacturers are working like that. You will see it clearly if you do some applications with calculated positions, machine vision etc. Thanks for the video!

the axes seems to be not synchronised. do you have any information about how to do synchronised movement? Can it run cartesian movements, like LIN or CIRC?

Hey I'm just curious what you had to write into the test.py program. Did you just program in target joint positions? Or did you code in the joint trajectory yourself? Is their board taking in info about joint positions or voltages?

Unfortunately not. But it is flexible enough to add any custom end effector.

I have a question! how can control the brushless motor? I see you can use odrive but I was thinking about the cheeta actuator, if them controller is more cheap. Or maybe exist a module can bus controller more cheap for brushless motor

yay i got a super early bird spot and was very excited to see that you had been in contact with them when your video notification came a few minutes later! could you please also check the real world payload, movement speeds and backlash in all axis at some point? what kind of things do you think you'll be doing with this arm? i would really like to see more about INNFOS' humanoid robots, and maybe replicating them, but maybe also combining this with jetson nano computer vision.

If it is 2mm along the x axis movement that involves only one motor, then the backlash in z axis that 3 motors are involved must be about 6mm ... is this correct?

Very cool! And under $1000 bucks? Thats pretty amazing. The modular design is nice, but one of the things I like about your hobby robots is, that the motor size is different per axis. It seems you can get better control and better lifting capacity that way. Do you think the same motor size for each axis is still okay for INFOS GLUON?

If the camera is on the head, you could lay a penny down and go thru the motions and return to see if the penny was in the same frame space for the amera to tell the accuracy.
