I have ridden both bikes and i can say that..... Z900 (2020) 1. Z900 has a stiffer suspension so it is better for going up on mountains or changing direction in the highway. 2. Z900 has better throttle response, it is smoother than the RS. 3. Z900 has a lower seat so it is easier to handle in traffic. 4. Z900 has a narrower handlebar and mirrors so it is easier to pass between cars in traffic. 5. Because of the stiffer suspension Z900 is more stable at high speeds. 6. I liked the Z900 sound better cause you cannot hear the filter intake sound so much and that is better in my opinion. 7. The 2020 Z900 model has more electronics to offer, such as multiple maps, and a way better dash. Z900RS (2018) 1. Z900RS is more comfortable in a bumpy road because of the softer suspension. 2. Z900RS is more comfortable around town because of the more upright handlebar and seating position. 3. Z900RS has a more comfortable seat for both the rider and the pillion. 4. Z900RS has more torque down low than the Z900 but not so much in the upper revs, whatever that means. Both are great bikes though

The z900rs is the bomb. I have ridden many different bikes, including Harley. The z900rs gives you a great relatively cheap bike with ABS, and traction control in a 470 lb 110 hp package. This bike is hard to beat as a bar hopper or a cross country cruiser. I will keep it as long as I ride. Small cc around town bikes, and big cruisers msy come and go but I will always have fun on this bike.

Late response. I bought a' 22 Z900 in February. Love this bike. In May of '22, I bought a new Z900RS. Powerwise, the Z is a equal to the RS from the bottom to midrange. The Z then takes over. The RS is much more comfortable, Fit and finish of both is superb. The sound the RS emits stock is wonderful. The gear whine of the Z is mesmerizing. Can't fault either. Both powerful and dependable. Buy one or the other. You'll be elated.

I recently demo'd the Z900RS and within a minute I could tell it was something special. The power delivery is great, the suspension is great, the torque is great, the seat is great, the brakes are great and it sounds great. Bit of a boring appraisal but if you try the bike you'll soon see why it's so special.

I did a demo day and got off the Z9RS and onto the Z9. The first thing I noticed was how much more responsive everything was on the Z9. Hooligan, but I liked the RS more. I rode the Z900RS 3 times and the Z900 twice. If I were to buy, it would be the Z900RS for the reasons you stated.

I bought my RS two months ago, and like you, I love it! I’ve done 4,000 kms so far and the seat does get softer over time, it was a bit hard when I bought it. I’ve got a HD 1200 Sportster I’ve owned for 25 years, never thought about buying another bike until I saw the Z900RS and I was sold right away. Kawasaki know their buyer and they’ve got a winner with this one, in fact they are in short supply in some overseas markets. I thought maybe they should have had twin shocks and four into fours, but since buying it I’ve changed my mind, this bike is perfect in my books.

Kawasaki have nailed it with the 900RS, at a local bike show last year they had the 900RS on a podium alongside the 1972 Z1, both in the same brown and burnt orange design and it showed what a fantastic job Kawasaki have done to have the RS mimic the Z1 but while still bringing the RS into the 21st century.

When I saw the RS, I fell in love instantly. I immediately sold my Ninja ZX6R, which I had owned for 9 years, and bought this beautiful RS in Metallic Dark Green. I always dreamed of the Honda Hornet PC36 and Z1000 in my youth, and now the Kawasaki has simply merged them together. I am absolutely satisfied with the RS, and I can confirm everything the guys in the video said. By the way, I'm only 36 years old.

Great review boys. I had a brand new KZ 900 in my youth. It pretty much dominated from a power and cool point of view, however, handled unpredictability in the corners at times. But a real blast for my girlfriend (now my wife and a grandmother, lol) and me! We put many long hours on the bike in shorts a muscle shirt and halter top. May have to buy this one for some short rides down memory lane…and to wax it once again in the driveway!

Great review, I upgraded my 2014 Tuono to Z900RS after it left me once too many times at traffic lights due to over heating. What I can said about the Z900rs is , it's designed by riders for riders whereas Aprilia Tuono was designed by marketing department who doesn't know shit about bike, even can't get the fuel tank right, always overflow because no air flow, stupid designers.

I'm glad that they went with a 4 into 1 exhaust on the RS. I think 4 into 4 is ugly. And so did everyone in the 70s. Just about everybody dumped their 4 into 4 and went with a 4 into 1 Kerker. I have the cafe version and I love it. All I did was put 20mm bar risers on it and it made it perfect for me.

Excellent reviews. I have the z900rs cafe and on a ride the other day was actually giggling in my helmet without realizing it. The ride is so awesome that it's like being on a magic carpet going down the road. The power is so linear up to redline it's like a locomotive. The only negative is with the amount of air coming of the fairing you have to dress wisely or become a parachute.

One - maybe the best video/review i´ve ever seen (espacially for the Kawasaki Z900 RS). Thank you so much. I bought the green version of the Z 900 RS about 2 months ago and i agree in every point you mentioned you guys said in this video. i have testet the BMW R1200R, Kawa Z1000, Z900, Suzuki SV650, Honda CB650F and all Triumphs and personally i found my first Bike (i am 46 years old and got the A License since 2 months). This Bike has got so much character (nothing annoying) and spent responsibility - awesome. To ride this bike is a pleasure. I had a z900 1976 from new and the suspension/frame was pretty ordinary but the power was awesome in those days so you learnt to manage the downsides. Replace rear shocks, heavier oil in forks, gusset the swingarm. I have not been a big fan of inline 4s, finding it hard work and scary. Much prefer Parallel and V twins. Test rode a Z RS last year and was sold. Like you said, it is easy to ride and easy to ride fast. The suspension on bike makes it feel like riding a magic carpet, you can feel the bike hitting a bump but nothing tranfers the shock to your spine or behind. Unreal!

Love my RS. I went in and bought it some 5 months ago because it looked cool. Never read a thing about it. What luck. Fastest bike I have ever owned and smooth beyond compare if you do not mind it ripping your arms out if you are not ready for it. PS I am getting ready to change the pipes out headers and muffler with an Akrapovic system. I like the sound, but hate the huge catalytic converter under the engine. Adding a K&N air filter with a Booster Plug to keep it from running too lean. Also switched motor oil to Motul 300V Racing Oil. Let's see how it runs now! PS...Mine was only $11,300 USD out the door!

Will getting rid of the CC void the warranty? Will it cause a check engine light to illuminate? I would want to lose the CC too however haven’t the Kawasaki engineers tuned the engine to operate with the CC ?

Great review. I'm so torn. I love the RS, but I hate the extra money Kawi is asking for it.

It's a great bike at the right time. 1st thing I'm doing is pulling off the painted parts and painting them jumbo metal flake green! Let the good times roll!

What is your opinion of the Z900RS as a first bike for a beginner, 52 years old, 6'3" 215-220 average build? The other bike I'm considering is a Triumph T120.

Add an Akropovic header and you're done! What about the Euro4 compliance, does that detract from its performance? I dig the cafe version. Thanks for the review!

The only reason I would change exhaust on the rs is to keep the stock one mint. Probably as a centerpiece for the table

I'm fighting a battle with myself whether I should get myself a Z900 or a Z900RS. I like the retro look of the RS, but I also like the modern electronics of the regular Z900

Holy crap you guys get a room. I have not seen such naked motorlust since the seventies. Some of the comments could be grounds for divorce. The retro one is very nice.

Hmm. I'm torn between this and the Triumph Speed Twin. Maybe I can't get passed the 'Triumph' name and premium components. But this video might have sold me on the Z900RS..

Nice review, I just purchased the 2016 Kawasaki Z1000, do they still make that for the Australian market, because they stopped making it for the American market ?

Hi Thomas the Z1000 is still on the market here in Australia. Not much has changed for the Z1000 apart from the colour schemes.

I have the older (2011) W800 and the RS, just 2 different bikes and impossible to compare seriously. The newer W is more of a modern machine with different geometry (17" wheels) but still a parallel twin. You should ride both and then you'll know why they can't be compared.
